+ Ambiance is upscale and small. It's one of posher stores I've been in VT but given its locale, it fits. Their storefront is charming and cheerful New England theme. + The Dorset Union Store stocks mostly food items including produce and baked goods. The DUS is well stocked with a deli in the back and a wine section that any city dweller would be satisfied with. DUS carries many VT products and they even had maple cotton candy :-)) when I visited in September 2022. = Price is on the higher side even for VT but not unusual for the area. ++ Service is quite good and the staff is friendly! + Parking is street, free and ample. DUS is not for your weekly grocery shopping but it is a convenient stop for a pick me up, hostess gifts and a weekend sustenance in NE. read more

My family's been coming to the Dorset Union Store for over 20 years, and the recent upgrades to the food ordering portion at the back of the store have been exceptional. There are now high quality (and slightly pricey, but what's new) sandwiches you can order that taste amazing and are made quickly (the Rupert and the BBQ sandwich are my personal favorites). The store still manages to keep its rustic general store ambiance while serving more modern sandwich options, which makes it a great spot to grab lunch. read more

We stayed across the street and found this store to be convenient for toiletries, souvenirs, snacks and booze. Pros Food- Im not going to type everything out because there is too much to list. Just know this, any prepared food here is damn good. Hot breakfast sandwiches, full deli, soups/salads/sandwiches, rotating hot entrees and frozen meals and sweets galore. Other - they have a good selection of product, kinda like a mini mini grocery store, beer/wine and stationary store. Staff - Some of the nicest workers out there. Cashiers are always friendly and move the lines to get people out the door. They know all the locals and enjoy sparking up conversations. The kitchen workers are amazing cooks and will customize anything you want. The owners are the real deal, total hands on. CONS Prices. If you want the good stuff ya gotta pay. Most important thing though is that the quality you get here on THEIR prepared food is so high the prices are justified. Suggestions to owner -Your kitchen puts out so much great product but the average joe off the street doesn't know that because the kitchen is hidden and all they see is a tiny deli display case. Get a screen up front at the register mounted high above that scrolls pictures of your magnificent creations with a menu of whats available from the kitchen. People in line will then find out. The tv is cheap and you can set up a scrolling menu/photo gallery for cheap. A nice font and theme with the menu will work wonders. - The muffins need a new recipe with different flour. This is such a high quality market in the town. Given the number of country stores in VT, we were surprised at the quality of groceries, produce, and sandwich menu. The owners work in the business and are engaging and fun to talk with. I knew that the store was going to be great - we stopped in the needlepoint store to ask directions on how to get there, and the owner took out a canvas waiting to be sewn - she told us to look for the green and white awnings. Now that is testament to this store - that it's immaculate store front makes it into a needlepoint kit! read more

This is everything great about Vermont in one little store. The deli in the back makes fantastic sandwiches and don't miss the freezer with their delicious prepared foods next to the checkout counter. Look to see if they are serving their maple ice cream, if so you'll need to get some of that too. The store itself features a great selection of locally made items and familiar staples and the wine and cheese room off to the side is definitely worth a look. The store is located right on the postcard-esque Dorset Green, which provides the perfect spot to enjoy the sandwiches you got from the deli. This place is everything great about VT. Wandered the store a bit and went back to the deli counter hopeful to get their Rueben and some spicy cauliflower...nobody asked if I wanted to order something, nothing. The DU is the quintessential country store. Situated on the picturesque Dorset Green across from the historic Dorset Inn, the DU is owned and operated by two delightful and hardworking women, who are constantly stocking the shelves with a mixture of home cooked items, local treats, and household necessities. The deli makes delicious sandwiches, salads, soups, and other items that are perfect for taking home or eating on the nearby picnic tables. The homemade corn fritters with VT maple syrup are out of this world! They have a terrific selection of VT craft beers and a separate room stocked with fine wines from around the world. Our kids love the seasonal soft serve ice cream and penny candy. Our dog even loves to visit, as she'll often get a cookie from one of the friendly clerks behind the register. If you're visiting Dorset or just passing through, it's worth a stop at the DU! read more

I'm not sure why it's not listed as a bakery, but DUS has a wonderful baker in-house. It is the best place in the area for specialty pies, croissants, cakes and the BEST ginger molasses cookies on earth! The DUS shortbread chocolate chip is utterly addictive as well. read more

Beautiful, homemade soups and pies and frozen meals from a chef's kitchen somehow mix well with white marble sidewalks and the puff of country club golf and tennis. Need a good wine for dinner? I think it is about time I leave Dorset because I feel bad. It sort of feels like the edges of my brain are pressed up against two concrete blocks and they keep pushing in. Is this what mental means or am I just overexhausted or is it just both. I really hope my potential roommates are real and not fake and that we will get along. One thing that was essential for me to come to Dorset is that I learned the feeling of great importance matters very little to me. I like being challenged and I don't mean the "eat a meal without crying" challenge, but stimulation. It all feels so plastic and old and archaic and it's hard for me to find the magic. I don't think you can go to a place expecting to find the magic. I think the magic has to come to you. read more

Upon entering, you will notice that this store is a maintained and slightly updated walk through time, if that makes any sense. It has a gourmet blended with an old fashioned general store appeal. The deli is very good and has a nice selection of wines. This is a place that is a must see during a drive through this quaint, refined town that is settled perfectly on the town green. read more

An amazing local business... If you want a taste of old school Vermont with gourmet products nestled in a quintessential green mountain town... The Dorset Union Store is your place! The owner Gretchen is often seen talking to the customers about cool new products; of which there are many (I just bought saratoga crackers with parmesan and cracked pepper!!! AMAZING! ) Her ever so vocal canine companion Emi, may also make an appearance from time to time. Gretchen has a wonderful standard for food and it shows! She is a true foodie. To help her, she has the greatest staff, who are knowledgable about the products and enjoy talking about them. They have an excellent gourmet frozen dinner selection for you WEEKEND WARRIORS out there. The family-sized lasagne has saved my life a number of times when friends drop by! They have a wonderful wine selection, (handy if you are staying in Dorset) and if you don't know much about wine, John is great about walking you through a number of bottles till you find the right fit.
