Perfect general store!! Love everything about this place! They have really good food & lots of cool Vermont products.

My wife found this place as we were headed for the Vermont Country Store. You walk in and you felt as if you were back in time from the 50's. Great little general store. Great, great coffee. I had the dark roast, black no sugar. It was one of the best coffee I ever had. Purchased some bread and two plain donuts. Sat outside on the rocking chairs and enjoyed my coffee and donuts. From the rocking chairs on the porch to the creaky hard wood floors, scent of freshly baked muffins & coffee & pleasant staff...is exactly why we love this cool old school general store. But don't be fooled, there are gluten free, organic, high end specialty items, local CT hand crafted breads, cheeses, & honey as well as Burts Bees & notable brands too. Sandwiches, soup, ice cream, craft beer, candies, chips, cold cuts, toiletries, bird seed, toys, cleaning supplies- well you get the point. A wonderful place to support. read more

Wow. How is it no one has listed or reviewed this place yet? The Wayside Country Store is the epitome of what a country store should be. Run by the Tschorn family like, FOREVER, they still run it today. You'll find Doug and Nancy working there most days and if you're a regular, they'll remember your name for sure. Doug will chat you up if he's not too busy. Their grandkids help run the place now, too. This place has everything, and if they don't have it, you don't need it. Ammunition, Subs, Beer, local meats, souvenirs, DVDs, fishing supplies, coffee, groceries, knick-knacks, candy, muffins, and lottery tickets. This place has EVERYTHING. Creaky floors, organized isles stuffed to capacity with everything you could ever need, and the sandwiches are AWESOME. There aren't many stores like this left - WalMart is pushing places like this out of business - yes, even way up here in Arlington, VT. Visit if you're in the area - support these types of places before another piece of Americana dies from the strangulation of Corporate America. I love this store. read more

Best country store ever! Honestly, you just have to go here. It's a dying breed and it's so worth the perusal. You'll find something you need or want. Video rentals in the back. Lotions and potions and fresh eggs and lots of Ben & Jerry's choices... good selection of wine... the cheese is delicious here. There's bait and tackle and WIFI! They have it all. read more

This general store is truely a blast from the past. When you walk through the doors you see a scene right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Which makes sense as he lived just down the street and no doubt often stopped here. Whenever I work in the area I stop in for breakfast or lunch. Both of which are great. read more

I do love shopping at this country store and bringing tourist friends here, but their prices are geared toward tourists. 'Great selection of African Market Baskets, Jelly Bean brand rugs ($29.99 ea.), Burts Bees products, and an excellent selection of Darn Tough socks. There are plenty of Vermont made products for those tourists looking for gifts. But we find it convenient when we don't feel like going all the way to Manchester or Bennington to market. 313 is a beautiful route. $4.49 for a package of Philly Cream Cheese, and expensive produce...and mostly pretty sad-looking, and a plethora of regular and unusual food items and brick-a -brac. They have a walk-in cooler beer room, with a variety of Vermont made Heady Topper, among others. Oh, and they carry Earth, Sky, Time bread - another plus. Sandwiches are pretty good, and reasonably priced. (More for locals I guess.) Reason for three stars, not more? Up on their shelves by the sandwich section, antique oddities are displayed. My eyes fell upon a stuffed bobcat, and a very tiny fox, and my heart sank. Who in hell has a need to kill inedible, small, harmless animals? To stuff them for a trophy? Really? Until this sight, Wayside was headed toward a five-star rating...simply for the interest factor. It's interesting. Now, the owner might protest that the trophy-slain might have been there for the past 50+ years. Well, how about removing them? It is always such a delight to spot a live bobcat or fox in Vermont...and becoming a rarity. Will we still shop here again? It's the closest mini grocery store to home, so maybe - hoping they will rid that shelf of the dead. read more

Wayside! I miss you guys! Not much to say except the owners are *awesome* and the selection here is hand picked to perfection. The Tschorn family is amazing. Moms, Dads, Sisters, Aunts, Grandmothers, they all run the place! Nancy is my favorite. She's the nicest lady you'll ever meet. Doug is adorable... Mr. Talkitive. I lived here for two years and my family grew up in this town. The Wayside is a country staple. Handmade pies, decadent cheese, PBR S'mores and laundry detergent, they have it all. So much love in such a small space. :) read more

Great country store. I was camping recently in the area and found this little place. It has a little bit of everything. Since I was the re for a week i ended up in the store several times. I had a breakfast sandwich made by the deli which was fantastic. One day I was in every store in town to find a green pepper. I ended up here and asked if there were anywhere in town to get produce. The lady at the counter said no but asked what I needed. I told her, she said hang on and went to the deli and sold me 2 peppers from their stock. Btw, she could have charged me anything but she charged me the same price as a pepper would cost from any chain grocery store. It's a great little store! read more

The round table is a place to sit, have coffee and eves drop on or drop in to conversations with local residents and tourists alike. Have to downgrade. I stop in fairly often as I travel to Vermont from New York at least twice a month and usually stop in for some of the great foods they make and sell. All of their sandwiches and baked goods are very tasty and reasonably priced. However I saw on their Facebook page that they are starting to sell maple cremee ice cream cones and was excited to try one. They have three sizes a kiddie cone $1.75 (3oz) a regular $2.50 (5oz) and a large $3.25 (7oz). I ordered a regular and I was shocked and appalled at the size for $2.50. It was so small I bet it wasn't even 2oz of ice cream. I asked if that was a regular and they told me yes which I found even more shocking. I understand maple sugar and cream cost a fair amount but it's soft serve not hard ice cream which means it's a mix and does not cost nearly as much to produce and serve. While the ice cream tasted good I would suggest either bringing the price down, giving a larger size cone or not serving the product at all. At the current price and serving size I can't imagine they are going to sell to many. Stick to their baked goods and deli foods as they are great but skip the ice cream it just to pricy. read more

Were driving through looking for covered bridges and found the Wayside country store by accident (bathroom stop!)! Glad we decided to stop here... go out of your way to visit... you will be glad you did. The variety of wares, the original building, the food and the friendliness was an experience I am glad I didn't miss! read more
