Breakfast started with lukewarm coffee. Didn't see the waiter for awhile, so went and found him to get hot coffee. French toast was dry, like it came from the toaster. I had a word with the waiter and he took it off our bill. Pastries were good, but at the prices they were charging, breakfast really needed to be stepped up. read more

Every part of my meal was absolutely delicious: a latte, stuffed croissant with side of fresh fruit, and some treats (chocolate drops, meringues) from the bakery. The awesome food + ambiance/decor of the restaurant made for the perfect breakfast. Our server was very nice--things were a little slow at times, but not painfully so. read more

We like to visit one of a kind special places, not franchise resturants, thus insuring our business supports the small businessman. We were visiting Durango and of course had to stop at Jean-Pierre's since I am a bakery aficianado in many states. We walked in to the building, the bakery is right up front, dinner is served further back. We had to wait a while for service. We were looking for a simple cookie or a small delectable sweet to finish off our meal which we had eaten elsewhere. My son choose a tiny eclair, I selected a pecan tart for my husband, as well as something for myself. There were no prices posted anywhere and I had a ten dollar bill in my hand to pay, and was expecting change. The bill came to almost seventeen dollars! I couldn't believe I did not ask for prices before she placed the miniscule delicacies in the box. Speechless, I paid the woman (as my husband was double parked outside in a thunderstorm), at least hoping the treats would be well worth the price. Well, they weren't, not by a long shot. All three items were very very ordinary and mediocre, completely not worth such an inflated cost. We live in California and are very accustomed to high prices for many things. We also (understandably), expect a certain level of quality from high-end shops. I can state a number of bakeries that have much lower prices where the food and service is of undeniably impeccable quality. Jean-Pierre bakery is a perfect example of when high prices do not necessarily mean excellent products. This place is notihing more than your standard, over-priced tourist trap. read more

This is such a great place - their bread & croissants are to die for. No more carb diet for me! I will happily indulge here every Sunday. I recommend their chocolate croissants, they are the best I have had outside of France. The lunches here are great too. Definitely a local favorite. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Durango looking for a great place for lunch and dessert! read more

Best coffee in town. Our server, Joshua, was attentive and helpful, and the croissants homemade and worth another visit. I appreciated the attention to detail and quality in the decor. read more

Outrageously expensive for little Durango. We couldn't believe the prices and the service is not good. We wanted to leave but we were in a hurry so we ordered the croissant and coffee only. This restaurant exists to take advantage of tourists. Period. The locals know better. Shame. read more

I had gone there last year and thought it was a little expensive but enjoyed it This year, now more expensive, croissants were either under filled or burned . We had coffee and one dessert and this came to $20.00. We will be going to another part of CO. because Durango in general over priced. read more

Not good at all!! We stopped in for lunch and none of it was good. My wife had the $17 chicken salad and I had the quiche lunch with soup and pastry. None of it was worth eating. What a disappointment. I should have read the reviews prior to going. Save your time and money. The service was not great either. read more

This review is for dinner. The restaurant's decor was pleasant and the bakery looked decent, so 4 of us decided to try the restaurant for dinner on a Tuesday night. The night's special was a complimentary cheese platter, which was tasty, but presented in a somewhat disorganized manner. The escargot was a bit tough and the usual garlic-butter sauce was lacking in volume. We attempted to order French wine, but three of our selections were not available. One of my dining companions chose the cod for the Poisson du Jour Amandine - she thought the cod was dry and the amandine sauce was uncharacteristically sweetened and did not go well with the fish. The scallops in the Coquille St. Jacques were well prepared and tender, however, the sauce overwhelmed the dish. The balsamic salad dressing thickly coated the salad greens. The server was nice and polite, but seemed inexperienced and not able to handle the number of tables assigned. The bread from the bakery was very good, but the macarons were not fresh. For a similar cost, we all felt we had a better dinner at another local restaurant. Based upon others reviews, it seems the bakery is the better choice for breakfast or lunch. read more

An absolute must visit. Will exceed any expectations one may have. Truly a 10/10. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Product is unrivaled. read more

Purchased the chocolate pecan cookies because they had samples and were excellent. If we were staying in Durango it would be a great breakfast place read more

So we stopped here one day for croissants and eclair but came back the next day for dinner. The cheese plate was delicious with lots of variety. The crusty bread with dinner was uncanny. We both got the scallop dish and it was out of this world! read more

Over priced and average taste at best. Spent $28 and got a small Danish, drink, and what seemed to be something similar to a hot pocket. The service was poor and felt like we were inconvieniencing them by being there. read more

Over priced, tab price was higher than menu price, and French toast was a soggy dough. Come on, your supposed to be a French bakery.

The pastries and bread are delicious (and expensive!!) but the food and the service in the restaurant sucks. It gets one star because you can always do better. read more

We visited JPs several times. We enjoyed their pastries and coffee in the AM, but best were their cheese plates in the PM. They were reasonably priced and very large and varied--enough for a meal for two! Wine list was also excellent. But what kept us coming back was the music and ambience---great interaction with musicians. We stayed for a couple of hours every time and started planning our days around their music schedule. read more

I visit Jean Pierre Bakery at least 3 times a week for their traditional bagettes!!!! I have been shopping there regularly for the last 10 years. Simply delicious. Between 9 - 9:30 am is the best time to get a loaf. That is when they take it out of the oven. The authentic sour dough bread is worth a try too. read more

The bread is homemade and to die for! Take some home for toast the next morning. We initially stopped in for happy hour and had wine which was wonderful-dry, full bodied and fulfilling. There were few people there as we arrived at 4pm but the restaurant began to fill up. There is music so check it out. We came for lunch the next day and had their lobster bisque-wonderfully creamy with hints of pimento and quiche for the husband and friands for me. Both were small portions in keeping with the French style and the flavor was wonderful. Had we room, dessert would have been attempted. The bakery offers a plethora of beautifully presented and tasty French treats. What a wonderful addition to the Durango Vibe! read more

I'm a local girl who thought this would be a nice treat for family visiting from out of town. We were all terribly disappointed. We waited over 15 minutes to be acknowledged, we ordered coffees and an Americano and eventually had to get up to look for our elusive server who returned to say "oh, yeah, you wanted coffees and an Americano". Once breakfast came the eggs were not cooked as ordered, the pastries were underwhelming and the toast was cold, dry and tough as cardboard and could hardly be choked down with the $6.50 glass of orange juice. Way over priced, over rated and not worth the time!! This local girl will not be returning with visiting family or recommending this to unsuspecting tourists. read more

Dinner. I felt like i was in France again. Nothing short of fabulous. The ambience, the service, the food... All excellent, and beyond. I had the lamb shanks. My husband had the bouillabaisse. Both spot on. The pre-dinner cheese platter and soup (lobster bisque for hubby and a tomato and Gouda for me) were the perfect starters. I suggest that not only should you eat here when in Durango, but you should come to Durango solely to eat here. read more

Over priced, not worth what you pay for. I am greatly disappointed as today I had eaten here for the first time because all the reviews where so wonderful talking about how people drive from out of state to eat here. I ordered a cup of French onion soup which is 13.25 but after taxes and a tip I paid 20 bucks for a tiny cup of soup. It wasn't even prepared properly as there was no melted cheese over the top of the cup and all the cheese was a glob on the bottom of the cup. I was given barely even a full cup, and not many onions and only one piece of toast. It also tasted warm like it was either microwaved or barely cooked very long. I am very upset as I was looking forward to eating here for months and was a very bad experience. Because of this horrible experience I will never again waste my time or money. I also don't believe all the wonderful reviews of people driving from out of state to eat here. I used to live in Santa Fe and Colorado Springs which both have similar French restaurants to eat at, they never charged me 20 bucks for a cup of soup and they gave extra bread and properly prepared my soup every time. I also considered walking out and making a complaint but I am sick of going to places just to end up complaining. I go out to enjoy life not to make complaints! read more

My husband and I had dinner here on Valentine's Day. There was a special, limited menu - only two choices each for starter, entree, vegetable and dessert. We ordered shortly after we were seated, and our salads came a few minutes later. Then the wait began. Two other parties came in and were seated after us. They ordered. They were served. They ate. They boxed up their leftovers and left. Finally, after we had waited more than 90 minutes, our server told us that they had run out of the cod for my cod/scallops entree. At least one of the people who came in after us had the cod even though we had ordered first. The server said the rest of our meal was already cooked and asked if I wanted something to replace the cod. We said we'd just take whatever was ready. It still took nearly 15 more minutes for any food to arrive. Then we had to ask several times before the vegetables were brought out. The green beans were mushy and tasteless - much like steam-table green beans - and the Brussels sprouts had not been browned at all, although they were described as browned. It was the most disappointing dinner we've had in a very long time. read more

great pastries and bread. food at the restaurant is good once you get it. which brings me to the service- basically none- at least the last time i went there- we waited for our server for 30minutes then decided to get up and leave- not all the servers fault as it looked the place was understaffed but they could have acknowledged our presence... read more

Very disappointed. We went on a Sunday hoping to have a nice Sunday brunch but they stopped serving the breakfast menu at 11:30. We stayed to try the lunch menu because we had friends in town who liked the atmosphere. I do think it is a bit overpriced for what they offer and for portion sizes. The crab and lobster bisque was thin and lacked ingredients (couldn't make out crab or lobster) and flavor. The quiche was ok but greasy. 2 people on our part had the Croque Monsieur (fancy ham sandwich with processed ham) on lackluster bread. And Jean Pierre has such good sourdough bread! We all had coffee with our meal and also a disappointment. Lukewarm, weak, and tasted like it had been sitting in the pot for awhile. We had high hopes for the coffee since we were told by the waiter they serve Desert Sun coffee! I remember this restaurant being much better than this experience (but that was a very long time ago). What happened??? read more

We first went to Jean-Pierre in July 2010 and had a lovely and memorable lunch. We were eager to return this year, but came away very disappointed. The chicken country salad was still wonderful - the salad includes warm roasted chicken in a fresh, garlicky sauce. But that was the only highlight. We were seated at a table with a sticky, stained tablecloth. We found two hairs in our food. My husband ordered French onion soup, which arrived in what looked like a chicken stock and did not include croutons or Gruyere. Perhaps this was some reinterpretation of the dish, but if so, it should have been advertised as such. The waitress was very friendly and made several efforts to accommodate us, including offering a free dessert. It was a nice offer, but the dessert was also disastrous - a runny lemon tart in a rock-hard crust. Maybe it was just an off day, but I won't be planning another camping trip around this lunch destination. read more

We've eaten here for years, as well as recommended it to family and guests, but a recent experience has soured this local bistro for us. After breakfast with friends a couple of weeks ago, we recognized that our server was having problems with our bill. He seemed new and admitted that he had difficulties with our card, but insisted the problem was solved. Unfortunately, when we got home and checked our account, we found that we'd been charged for another table's meal as well as our own. We could perhaps excuse an inexperienced server, but when I went in a few days later to straighten out the problem, the "manager" not only offered no apology, but was curt, rude, and basically said he couldn't help me. After working with a different employee over the course of several days, the incorrect charge was finally removed, but there are enough restaurants in Durango that I doubt we'll feel it necessary to return to this one. read more
