Just getting around to reviewing from past visits. It was a very cold winter night last December and I needed something hot and delicious. We walked into The Jean-Pierre bakery. We had the pleasure of meeting Jean-Pierre and his wife . My hot tea was actually nice. It was from the local tea company. I had several cups and also enjoyed a really nice slice of Chocolate cake I think it was. We stayed for a while without being rushed out for not purchasing anything else. The atmosphere was casual and comfortable. The way you would it expect it to be in a small south west town town. I heard a rumor that they have since closed down. Not confirmed though. Hope it is not true. Also, Jean-Pierre let me purchase one of their ceramic cups to take home with me. I use it all the time for my hot cocoa rum drinks. read more

After reading the previous reviews, was hesitant to return. It was after lunchtime, so no wait for a table. Desserts looked good in the window! Decided to share the quiche - it was OK but a little cold, had not been heated properly. Soup was good and the kids enjoyed their sandwiches. Decor is quaint, but probably too many other choices in town to return. read more

My husband is always looking for a good ham and Swiss croissant so we decided to eat breakfast here. I was a little sticker shocked at first: 2 small croissants, 1 small black coffe, 1 cup of hot water and a packet of tea was $18. However, two bites into my chocolate croissant made every penny worth it. Absolutely delicious! If we are back in Durango, we will support this business again. Staff member was a little weird... but the outdoor seating was perfect on a sunny, cool morning! read more

Fantastic food! Had breakfast here this morning before getting on the train. Delightful crepes and bakery! Well worth the money.

Stopped in on a Sunday morning. We walked directly to the pastry counter and ordered a few different items. The employee was super nice and patient with us. We took our bag of treats to a seating area across the street, right next to Starbucks. I got a coffee from the 'bux, and we enjoyed a beautiful morning with our DELICIOUS pastries. I LOVE a good chocolate filled croissant, and this place nailed it. My mom had a blackberry croissant which was also tasty, and my dad had an apricot filled crunchy thing which he really liked. We shared a meringue cookie which was pretty good. The sour dough bread wasn't my favorite. It seemed more like a whole wheat sourdough, which I thought odd. If I ever go through Durango again, I will be stopping here! read more

Stopped by for 2 croissants to go: 1 ham & cheese and 1 plain. These 2 croissants cost $9! While the croissant was very good, I don't think it was worth that much money. There was no one in the place at 8am and I wonder if the cost is going to drive out their business? read more

We weren't in Durango long enough to try out the restaurant, but I am qualified to brag about the bakery. Everything we tried, and there's an enormous selection, was great. I especially liked the coffee macaroons which were made all the more dangerous by the fact that they are bite sized. Don't miss stopping on the corner of main for a treat! read more

Had lunch here. Ordered the Croque Monsieur with a side salad. Salad was delicious. But very expensive for what you get. Sandwich was ok. Extremely slow wait staff. We had now been waiting 20 minutes for the check. Probably will not return for a meal, just stop in to pick up pastries. read more

I love this quaint French bakery and restaurant. We've had breakfast and lunch there. Everything was delicious Everyone was polite helpful and very accommodating. The pianist was wonderful. We will definitely be back on our next trip from Missouri read more

Beautiful building, tasty pastry but coffee was a huge disappointment. Also quite overpriced. $17 for quiche? no thanks.

Not good. My wife paid $22 for dry chicken. They gave us free dessert for the lousy chicken. Free dessert had mold on it. Just keep walking, better place to eat in Durango. read more

High price and bad service. Waiter added 20% gratuity and gave 5% service. He also tried to short one of our group $10 by not returning receipts with payment. When confronted he admitted and said he was going to bring later. read more

We dropped in for lunch. The seafood quiche was delicious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating for us with two young toddlers being giggly :) we sampled cookies and they were so good. Going back for pastries in a couple of days while we're visiting Durango. All of the pastries looks fresh and beautiful in the restaurant...cant wait to try them. The decor is beautiful with many paintings and art from years past. The fireplace was inviting and warmed us up from the cool fall temps. Lovely French decor. read more

My friend and I brought our children to Jean-Pierre bakery the menu was extremely overpriced-($14.00 stuffed croissant,$17.00 omelet,$4-6 sides) all these meals also came garnished with a piece shriveled lettuce. But besides that very good coffee and chai lattes. read more

The atmosphere in this place is wonderful and very European. However, I'm not sure how clean this place is. The tables looked to be a rustic hand hewn pine with natural knots in them. This normally would be very charming if the one we chose to sit at wasn't filled with food. My husband had the cream puff and said it was okay as the cream in the puff left a greasy feel in his mouth. I had the chocolate croissant which had been made not long before we arrived as it was still warm and very delicious. However, there are no prices listed on the pastries and I was shocked when we paid more than $22.00 for 2 pastries, 1 iced tea, and a very small latte! I don't mind paying high prices for something that is exceptional; however, I can go to my local Japanese bakery in Broomfield for a just as good chocolate croissant for under $2.50 a piece! So bottom line . . as far as the pastries and latte are concerned, this place is not worth the high prices! read more

Make time to have a relaxing breakfast here while you are visiting Durango! Delicious food, friendly service and atmosphere and also great looking pastries (must come back next time :)! Jana and Craig read more

Out most favorite bakery. Food is always excellent however the turnover with the wait staff makes for a challenging experience.

Awesome morning pastery stop!!! Best of our bakery tour through CO.

Love the old building. Whoever the guy is who is running the place has excellent service. The pastries are very good. Also, all of the espresso drinks we tried were great. I highly recommend this place. read more

Ooh, la, LA!!! One week in Durango and we found ourselves at Jean Pierre's 4 times. All I can say is that you will be pleased with the lovely, efficient staff, the exquisite pastries, the absolutely perfectly fluffy omelet, the wine, the cheese...... Just GO!!!! If nothing else you will be entranced with the decor ;-) read more

Popped in for a coffee and croissant. Got the wrong coffee order. Places' decor need a good dusting. The croissant was good but the butter was unspreadabke due to it coming straight out of the cooler. read more

The orange chocolate pastry I had was amazing. It was a generous size but I still wished for more after I finished because it was that good! Obviously that is a combo not everyone would like, but I loved it and it seemed that all of the pastries were of high quality. read more

Amazing food, pricey but worth every cent. The special Rabbit stew was incredible while the boeuf de bleu was one of the best taking tenderloin steaks I've ever had. Buy any bottle of wine and get the free cheese plate & the pastries are as close to Paris you can get read more

Get the free cheese plate when you order a bottle of wine. The wine menu is extensive, reasonably priced and the cheese plate is freaking amazing, worth $20 on its own. read more

Fantastic bakery located in the heart of downtown. Fresh baked bread daily and the best cheesecake I've had in years.

I have been here only twice, which is weird since I live so close by in Farmington. Both times the food was great, the service was brilliant and the price was reasonable. The last time I was their the owners sat at the table next to me and my girlfriend and we had a lovely chat with them! It was such a fun experience. I highly recommend the spinach salad with chicken. It is wonderful. read more

Probably one of the worst meals ever! The server was nice, but even he said he doesn't eat from the menu. We can see why. The prices were VERY HIGH EVEN FOR A GOOD MEAL, but absurd for a bad meal. We ordered the French dip, it was served in extremely hard bread with almost no meat on it. The salad had no dressing. My mom couldn't even eat it. My boyfriend got the cup of bisque. We couldn't believe the size of the cup. It was maybe 3 ounces and it had no shellfish in it that we could taste or see. It was 6.95 for it, awful. My croque monsier was dry and tasteless. The server took the sandwiches off the bill and said they get complaints about the French dip regularly. I usually don't write reviews, but this was really bad. I hope the owner will make improvements. read more

I LOVE LOVE this place. Excellent, ambiance, beautiful, great place to enjoy a meal. I went for brunch & they fresh squeeze their oranges. I can't say enough about the eclectic French environment. This place is rock star awesome! go here!!!!!!!! read more

There are very few really great bakeries in Colorado...baking is a challenge at high elevation. As a 27 year resident and baker in Colorado...I can testify. Wonderful breads...tarts...cookies...pies..cakes..all in a rustic charming western dining area. Restaurant food consistency and mediocre service reason they don't get a five. I live going there for breakfast. European tourists will be especially happy to enjoy some good breads and pastries. read more

The best dining experience in my entire life. The atmosphere, decor, building, staff, the scent, the food was amazing, pastries will have you spending your kids allowance money. The icing on the cake for me was Henry, playing the piano. I was already in love with the place, but when Henry started playing the piano it really made the whole experience tie together. It put a smile on my face. I was transported to a different time and place. Merci, Merci, Merci.... read more

We live in Pagosa Springs and drive to Durango to eat at Jeanne-Pierre! The food is awesome and staff is amazing! We always look forward to eating there!!! read more

I just wanted everyone to know that Jean Pierre's Bakery has the best croissants that I have ever had. Their french bread and traditional bagettes are crispy on the outside and airy on the inside. A little garlic and herb boursin cheese and you have a wonderful treat to tide you over for the afternoon. Their L'Operas are one of a kind - DARK CHOCOLATE - healthy haha they melt in your mouth!!!!!! I could eat 50 of them, just kidding. One is plenty. You have to stop in a grab a few of their treats, sooooon!!!! read more

Durango is a surprisingly charming giant tourist trap. This place is not charming at all. The service was horribly rude and the food mediocre. read more

Let's get the positives out of the way first: The criossants are excellent - best in town by far. But, that's where the good news ends. You have to wonder about any place that doesn't post the prices of it's baked goods. Stopped in for a few small tarts one day only to be shocked at the $10 price. Bought them anyway hoping that they would be somehow that good. They weren't. Finally had breakfast there yesterday when the parents were in town. Service was poor: 4 coffee beverages, 1 spoon, 1 napkin. They forgot to make my kid's OJ. Food came and had to ask for napkins and forks. Ordered a fruit bowl which was massive but some of the food also came with fruit. Would have been nice for the server to say something. As for the food, a common theme is that it's overpriced and there's no doubt about that. If it's going to be expensive by most peoples standards, it needs to be excellent and it's not even close. French toast was sad - thin, soggy, bland. The old saying that you can make anything taste good drenched in butter syrup was proven true again. My dad ate the omlette but didn't appear to be enjoying himself. The eggs benedict wasn't bad. The hollendaise was too greasy, the dish was luke warm but it tasted OK. Bottom line: JP's has one of the best locations in town and must stay in business attracting tourists. It's vastly overpriced, quality is lacking from the food to the service. I'm a local and won't be back - ever. read more

Good croissant, very nice. Unfortunately, the restaurant is wildly overpriced ($17 strawberry crepes?). We were seated at the worlds most crooked table, under a picture in an ornate, absolutely dust covered frame, ick. Our croissant with butter and jam came with a good three tablespoons of ice cold butter and a teaspoon of jam in the same plastic cup. My husband got the wrong coffee order entirely. Skip this place unless youre getting baked goods to go. read more

This is a place you should avoid. breakfasts are good but very expensive, like $18.00 a breakfast. If you have kids stay clear. We went back on our last afternoon for 2 brevas and 1 pastery $20.00 bucks. damn. the place is not really clean, for the most part there is dust on every flat surface. read more

Poor food ( breakfast) only slightly less disappointing than the price. Maybe it was just an off day.

We came in for dinner last night and it was A-mazing! I got a steak and it was perfectly cooked. Our server Sean Matey was very professional and attentive. If you order a bottle of wine you get a cheese plate. There was live music and not a lot of noise. read more

Only place without a long wait for Christmas Eve dinner...and I see why. Friendly hostess & server and good atmosphere but food was very hit or miss and servers were not attentive to our needs. My husband and I ordered two different steaks. My medium steak was probably more like well done and quite tough. My husband's $38 medium well done steak was as tough as beef jerky. My sister's fish tasted like frozen fish heated up. The pasta turned out pretty decent but nothing special. The server never came back for water refill the entire dinner. If he had come back, he would have noticed that my husband didn't touch his steak and only ate his french fries. He noticed at the end of the dinner and it was a little too late. Our $160+ dinner was the joke of our trip. read more

Had the French onion soup, which for a small crock at $13, I expected to be great. Instead, it was below average. Service: good. Bread they brought out excellent, but couldn't offset my disappointment in the soup. read more
