A tremendous local restaurant. JD's is a family run business that has been a staple in Appleton for years. JD is often behind the counter greeting patrons and always making sure that the staff is courteous and attentive to your needs. The restaurant has your normal "fast-food" choices but does them "better". Don't worry about not having enough fries as even a small bag will generally be more than you know you need. In addition to good, hot food, JD's also offers popcorn, ice cream and very good shakes. If you are in the neighborhood, it is worth a stop. read more

First time and I was very excited to check it out. I ordered a double cheeseburger combo which came with a generous amount of fries and a drink. I also ordered a $1 dipped cone. I was very excited when my order came to $5 and dessert was $1. The food was delicious and that place was hoppin! I rated the place a 1 star as I spent the rest of the afternoon on the toilet. I guess I learned my lesson. You get what you pay for. If you want cheap food and don't mind GI upset and feeling bad the rest of the day, go for it. I would not recommend. read more

JD's has great food and a much wider range menu items than most restaurants of this type. Most impressive to me, however is the very courteous, attentive service! Someone is really training the (mostly) young people who work there to be very customer service oriented. I also notice their ads and sponsorship for MANY community organizations, especially those involving youth. Great deals, great service, a perfect place to bring your kids, or to come and eat greasy food if you're a high school student. I don't know if I've ever eaten there and JD hasn't been there. Like Culvers, they bring the food to your table after you order. If there is an food that isn't on the menu, I don't believe that it exists at all. So I finally had to check out JDs after hearing so many people rave about it. The locals acclaim it to be a must and some of Appleton's best comfort food burger diners. All I can say is utter disappointment. Perhaps I went assuming the food would be bursting with flavor. Nope. There are a number of fast food chains that are a better deal and taste far better. We tried 3 different burgers including their signature burger, tried the fries, cheese curds and onion rings. The $1 large soda was the best deal on the menu. Burgers taste like they have been warming in water for quite some time. There really was no flavor. The condiments were all fresh and delicious. I was told that I need to try the chicken strips, not sure if chicken strips are worth more than the 2 stars I'm giving it. read more

Always a favorite! Grew up in Appleton, WI and JDs was, and still is, the go-to spot for great fast food. Whether I was 6 years old and my dad took me for lunch, or joining friends for ice cream after high school sports practice, even to now on "I just don't feel like cooking" nights - phenomenal. It is by no means healthy, so don't kid yourself. Iv'e been living in Wisconsin for over 16 years now, and up till about a month ago, I had never heard of Jd's. Deciding to give it a try based of a friends recommendation, I found this to be an amazing place, with equally amazing food. Although many would consider this place to be fast food join, and in retrospect it is, Jd's holds onto the old school 1950,60 style dinner. I have found Jd's to be a very pleasant place to eat at. All of the staff are extremely friendly, and well versed in the true meaning of customer service. I have found that everyone at JD's goes above and beyond to make you feel as if you are a part of the family. They make you feel as if you have know each and every one of them your whole life. I don't thin there are many dinners like Jd's left in the world. This is a place that groups of young ppl and older ppl can gather with friends for a nice time out on the town. This dinner captures and en body's the essence of what a good burger joint used to be to many Americans. I believe that anyone who gives Jd's a try will be a customer for life... I know that I am. Unfortunately fast food these days has become just that, fast and lacking in any substantial quality when it comes to their food. Everything has become so over priced in the fast food world, and generally you walk away feeling as if your money could have been better spent. I found nothing special here. It took forever to get my food, and my burger was no better than most other fast food joints. It's kind of in the middle of neighborhoods, so I get the sense that local kids work here. Maybe that's the draw, it's a community thing? JD's was great! I had a double cheeseburger, a small order of cheese curds (which actually turned out to be quite a lot of cheese curds), and a vanilla shake. Everything was delicious, the food was prepared quickly, and it was super affordable. The burgers are not fancy by any means, but they get the job done. JD'S OH HOW I MISS YOU. yet you were the reason I couldn't seem to lose any weight when I lived down the street from you. BOXES of cheese curds, oh lordy! Every time I go to WI the first thing i do is hit up cheese curds- unfortunately I only make it to fon du lac before i need to make the cheese curd stop. Your double cheese burgers for 99 can make any value menu burger suck it, and your ice cream slushies are heaven. Whenever we go to JD's he always recognizes my boyfriend because he spent the majority of his teenage years high eating there every day. I am jealous that he does not recognize me, after all i probably gained about 20 lbs eating there so often. read more

My family has been all over the States due to my husband's many years in the Navy so we've been to lots of "Burger Joints" But JD not only has his Burgers perfected, he also has his teen-aged, high-school kid's working there just as perfected, even counting your money back to you the right way!!! I've been going to JD's my entire life and the food has always been delicious, however, the food can only do so much for a restaurant. Myself and about 10 others went to JDS and we were nagged at by the owner to "hurry it up" and order even though all of the cashiers were busy preparing the ice cream we ordered. I brushed it off as a simple stressed induced outburst and waited for my food. Then, an employee approached me and stated "Just so you know, there are picnic tables out in the back and you and your friends should really go out there." I was baffled by the boldness of the employee to try and push out paying customers. It was such a disgusting experience and I will no longer bring my business there. read more

JD's has great burger stand style food but the real plus is the great staff led by JD who is ALWAYS there! He should run training sessions on how to teach your employees to provide great service! I've never encountered a rude or even apathetic employee there! The place is closed on Sundays to allow everyone family time....that gives you an idea of the type of guy the owner is! A decent place. They were above average in comparable places in service, speed, food and atmosphere. A big turn off was Fox News on every TV when I've been there. Seeing Bill O'Reily when I was trying to eat, made me throw up a lil in my mouth. The chicken strips are good. I'll get my food to go from now on. First off let me say that this review is based off of one visit. I will update this review later if I ever go back. I ordered the Double JD Delux, Small Cheese Curds, Medium Lemonade and a Medium Chocolate Malt. Total came to about $14.50. Not too expensive, but for what you get it's certainly just a tad bit more than I think you should have to pay. $11 would be about right. Firstly, the lemonade was cold and refreshing, but it was very lacking in any significant taste. Yeah, it was lemony but it wasn't very sweet and was just ok. If I ordered this at a more traditional restaurant I wouldn't have ordered a refill. Secondly, the cheese curds were frighteningly bland. Hardly any seasoning at all, the cheese wasn't very melty, and the fried crust on the outside wasn't crunchy. Thirdly, the chocolate malt was decent. Nothing to write home about, it was pretty average. Something close to or perhaps slightly above what you could order at BK or another fast food place. I went through the drive through and when they handed me my bag of food and told me to have a nice day I nearly drove off before realizing they had forgotten to make my chocolate malt! I just pulled into a parking space, went inside to show them my receipt and they got it for me quickly. So not a problem. Fourthly, the most disappointing thing about JD's is their terrible burger patties!! They have absolutely no flavor. None at all. I broke a piece off my burger and ate it alone and all I could tell was that I was chewing something vaguely meat textured. I would put the patties below what you can order at McDonald's. The toppings and condiments are really the only thing that saved this burger from the trash can. All the veggies tasted crisp and fresh and made the burger patties palatable. Lastly, the employees were nice, and helpful and the inside of the the restaurant was clean and better well lit than most dive-looking places. If you're looking for a good burger, look somewhere else. read more

We aren't from Appleton but when we found this place we decided to try it the food we got was better than I expected so I plan to try something else next time however the fries sucked but I also hate shoe string fries as they always seem overcooked to me. I could not believe my order was less than $19 for everything I got for my family of 4 so I checked my order and it had EVERYTHING! read more

Went there for the first time last night and you can tell, it's a family owned business. We were greeted promptly and they were training a new person on the slushy machine and they brought my son out the extra one they made. The food was good, not greasy; it doesn't break the bank either. We will certainly go back and told others about our wonderful experience today. read more
