I've been eating at Mohnen's since I was a little kid and it's the best breakfast food I've ever had.

Another great breakfast. We stopped in for a quick bite before a road trip. Today I ventured from my normal bacon, eggs, and toast to a breakfast skillet. It was very good. The portion was large. The hash browns were cooked with petite diced ham, sausage, onion and pepper. They even switched my American cheese to cheddar. My eggs were perfect, and they even had rye toast. Atmosphere: Large parking lot, there is no way you will not find parking. When you walk in there is a little to-go cooler of soups and other food, a bakery bar, and an ice cream cooler. There are booths and tables, probably 40 total. This place is very busy, and it reflects. A deep cleaning once a week would go a long way...if the place/menus/booths would have been cleaner this would have easily been 4 stars. Honestly it wouldn't hurt if they would update the interior little by little, I have a feeling it's been a while since anything has been upgraded. Service: FANTASTIC. I have been receiving such bad service at other restaurants lately that I had almost forgot what it is like to have a server that really REALLY cares. Super knowledgeable, had recommendations, was really friendly and kept checking in on us. I love the people here, you can feel the family vibe. Food: Nothing special, but nothing was bad either (except my side salad had tons of brown soggy lettuce). The sandwiches had nicely grilled bread with okay ingredients. We stumbled across Mohnens this weekend while camping in the area. We got there about 8am on Saturday and a line was already forming. Mostly older folks, and they all seemed to be locals. We knew we had found something special. The food was great, hot and fresh. Large portions. Fluffy pancakes, excellent bacon, packed omelets. Perfectly cooked classic breakfast food. What really set this place apart was the service. Our server, Gail, was amazing. Super cheerful and seemed to really enjoy her job. Great sense of humor as well. We enjoyed Mohnen's so much we made the 20 minute drive the next day too. Yes, two days in a row. Again, great food. And even though Gail wasn't our server the second day, she stopped by our table to say Hi. Just fantastic service! Tip: get there early. Lines get long. read more

Mohens family restaurant is the place for breakfast in Appleton wi. I got there at 7:15 and people never stopped coming in while i was there. The place is a chain I think because i think I have seen them in other cities but I have started checking out chains because I have had some good luck and I have changed my opinion on not going to chains. The place was nice looking and not dive looking with different colors on everything like a blind decorator put it together. My service was great and my server was sincerely a very nice woman and was not there just for a pay check. She was very friendly and made you feel like we knew each other for years. The menu was the standard breakfast items with one exception, the ultimate breakfast casserole and that's what I'm having. The ultimate breakfast casserole is basically frittata. It's eggs, hash browns, green pepper, ham, bacon and sausage covered with country gravy and cheese. See my pictures. It came with sourdough toast. My first impression was that it was really tasty and I liked the idea. This was a first for me and I have never seen it anywhere else so I'm glad I ordered it. Have never, EVER had a bad experience in the decades I've been visiting. It is a very popular place, so always expect a wait - they can't expand so I'm not sure why people are downgrading because of wait time... They turn over tables as fast as they can! Anyway, the food is typical diner fare, but always very delicious. Often times diners can have gelatinous, greasy food - but this place offers good quality. Waitstaff are always nice and very attentive. Even with a full house, it doesn't seem crowded plenty of space to move and get comfortable. I've had too much food here to talk specifics, but some of my favorites are their club sandwich, buttermilk pancakes, and peppermint hot chocolate. Can't wait to go there again! read more

Mohnen's is my local diner, living in Darboy, and I really enjoy it. I would say the breakfast is consistently the star... My toddlers love the big pancakes! Sandwiches are good, nothing too out of the ordinary but reliable. I love their potato pancakes, huge and delicious. The ambiance is nothing fancy, but that's what a diner is all about! The staff is super friendly and it gets busy on the weekend mornings; even weekday mornings can be pretty busy. They also have grab-n-go meals, which is convenient on a crazy day when I haven't planned ahead for dinner since I drive right past this spot on my way home. My all time favorite thing has to be their dumpling soup! It is THE best, I always grab some to go for home and it is full of yummy dumplings! So good. Also, so much sugar, haha. Overall it was a great meal and experience. My friend got the Reuben and enjoyed it a lot. What makes me give it 4 stars would be the portion/cost. It takes a little while to get seated, and once you do, it seems to take even longer for a waitress to come. When we ordered and our food came, she forgot the drink, a few of the sides and condiments when we asked for some condiments that we had ordered she said she'd be right back, but never came, although she did charge us For those condiments. Apparently our table wasn't eating fast enough because the weight staff kept coming and trying to take our plates and not in a friendly manner they never refilled our coffee. It's just not the friendliest place. I would say go somewhere else. read more

Found this restaurant on yelp while in town for a softball tournament. Stopped in for a late breakfast in between games. I had the stuffed French toast with berries and it was amazing! My husband had the eggs Benedict which he stated were some of the best eggs Benedict he had in a long time! Depending on what you order, you just might have a 5 star experience here, but I'm giving Mohnen's, one of our favorite breakfast, American food restaurants a 4, because it could improve greatly on certain menu items. We have been frequenting Mohnen's for at least 15 years and have brought many out-of-towners, too. When do we go there? When we want to be comfortable, eat comfort food and have nice, efficient service. Nothing fancy. What can you expect...extremely typical, traditional American diner food, not trendy. Many delicious choices, some things not so great. Comfortable booths. Whose in the dining room? A lot of families, and seniors. You do not see a lot of under 30 people there unless they are with family. Best Thing on the Menu: Potato Pancakes (These are better than any I've had...anywhere. Friends from out of town want to go here, just to get a fill on the potato pancakes.) Honorable Mention: Ultimate Breakfast Casserole...this is a unique dish and worth trying if the ingredients appeal to you. What's also great: regular plain pancakes, German Potato Salad, classic breakfast meals, sandwich meals like Reuben's, Patty Melt, etc. What's NOT great: many of the dinner meals are average at best...VERY old fashioned and have CANNED vegetables and cheap white bread roll. (They DO serve many quite elderly people, so this may appeal to that clientele, but I think under-50 peeps do not enjoy that kind of eating.) Worst thing on the menu: Chili (WAY too salty, almost inedible.) When chili is standard American fare and they serve this every day, I'd think they could trouble themselves to make a new recipe. What do we wish would be different: the coffee. We find their coffee bitter. However, coffee is subjective, so others might love it. What might I add on to my meal if I'm feeling indulgent: a side of German potato salad, pancakes or potato peels. All of these hit my comfort button. A wonderful treat: Mohnen's has a very generous birthday program...sign up for it and get a free meal during your birthday month. They will send you a post card just before the start of your birthday month. My wife ordered the Taco Salad and I had the Frisco Melt, after starting off with the Crispy Cheese Fries. First of all, let me say that the Cheese Fries are definitely worth the impending coronary infarction. By far the best Fries Ive had in a stint. The entree's were fresh and well seasoned and were only topped by the friendly waitress that brought them to our table. Arguably the best family restaurant in Appleton. My reasons: You get so much food for your money! I usually take my daughter and order the country skillet. You get a choice of a side, pancakes, muffin or toast and I order pancakes that way I can eat my breakfast and my daughter can have the pancakes.
