Went in for a haircut I needed change. Amber did such an amazing job mind you I've never gone short in my life and I am in love with my haircut. She was super kind and did everything I asked she was also very honest with me before we started cutting and I love that. I will be going back for color. read more

This salon was great for my kids, they had a great deal for back to school haircuts for only 12 bucks. I had not had my haircut in a long time cause I always went to a great salon (adara) but I had family coming and I didn't want to pay $60 $80 dollars for a very simple cut. I don't have alot of hair and I never ask for anything fancy so I thought yeah I'll do the jcp salon with the kids.... And mistakes were made!!! I had medium hair length, and wanted to have a slightly abgled bob, no layers or bangs just a hair cut from the nape of my neck to my collar bone. The stylist took 15 mins to wash my hair which I thought was excessive. Then she did the cut. She asked if I wanted it blow dryer and styled and I said no thats ok I'll do it at home ( I knew it would probably Increase the cost, plus my kids were done and were starting to get a bit stir crazy.) ( btw the stylist asked if my kid had ADHD, he was talkitive, but well behaved and I felt it was a bit rude especially since he was sitting right next to me and could hear her. ) anyways I tip all 3 stylist $10, I go to the counter and come to find out my haircut was $60. $60!!! She didn't even blowdry or style, Im like whatever I guess my other salon was a better deal. But it wasn't till I got home and realized how bad my cut was and how she didn't even come close to what I asked for. There was a lot of long strangling hairs, and the back of my hair was longer in the back than in the front. ( The exact opposite I asked for. ) You can see the proof in the pics below. I don't normally do this but I went here hoping to save money and was charged the same amount as a high end salon with half of the job they do and I felt I wanted to share to warn others in case they were thinking to do the same thing. read more

$75 for a cut to take dried ends off, no hair wash or blow dry. Pretty crazy! I definitely will not be back

Heads up, the salon is on the second floor in the JC Penny building. There's so much nostalgia with going to the Penny's Salon. My grandma would always go back in the 1980-1990's and I would sometimes go with her to get a trim when I was a kid. There are good people at this salon. I went in did a 4hr appointment- yeah it was an all day event because I had to get a consult and then do some heavy lifting with bleach to get back to platinum or ash blond. This is an Olaplex and Matrix forward salon. Both products I am familiar with. I'll update once I go back and see the final transformation. We pushed my hair to the limit and will do one more push to get exactly what I want. read more

Went in as a last resort and came out with soppy hair. The stylist, Mandi, was welcoming but her artistry fell short when she left me with a dye-stained facial and neck outline. She didn't time the appointment well and asked if I would mind leaving the salon with partially wet hair yet no discount was offered to me. I received an all-over, single color dye for $80. Best to look elsewhere if you want to walk out with any dignity. read more

First, I made an appointment with Alesha several days in advance. The confirmation phone call the day before confirmed it was with Alesha. Got there and was told I was seeing someone else. Not great but not a huge deal. After waiting 25 minutes past my appointment time I finally get in where she proceeds to spend 20 minutes just washing my hair and detailing every product she's putting on my head but will never buy because I like what I use. I had photos showing exactly how I wanted my hair cut, went into great detail explaining what I wanted. With the exception of the most basic part of the shape, it is nothing like that and it was done in a way that means my hair needs to grow 6 months at least before I can have someone cut it the way I originally wanted. All of this in the loudest salon I've ever been in. I didn't get an exact count, but there had to have been at least 8 people all washing, cutting and dying hair with conversations flying around the one room. Add in that because she was running so far behind, the woman checking people in kept coming in to tell her that her next client was getting impatient, it was not a good experience and I'm not willing to even try with someone else there. read more

Wanted to leave a review for my stylist Asia, she made my experience today very pleasant and I am in love with how my hair turned out! Asked for a layered cut and bangs which she did with attention to detail and made sure I loved the outcome. She also waxed my eyebrows, and it's the most confident I've felt in a long time once everything was done, especially since I have anxiety when it comes to going to salons. It's hard to find a good stylist you can trust and who is very personable and passionate about their craft, and Asia is definitely a great asset to the team. read more

Both my boys had haircuts today. My oldest went 1st, and the hairstylist was great. When it was my youngest turn, it was a different lady and she seemed hesitant for some reason. Maybe because he is 7 and she thought he would be hard? Who knows. She actually asked the other stylist if she had time to cut it instead. I wish she had, because his hair turned out terrible. She missed spots, especially around his ears, which I fixed when we got home. She also didn't cut the top like she said she would and left it sticking up in the back. It doesn't even look like he got a haircut. Very disappointed, and not sure why she works there if she doesn't want to cut certain people's hair and tries to pawn it off on someone else. I don't like conflict, so I just left without saying anything. read more

My name is Devin, this is my work from the last month at JCPenney salon, just wanted to post some positive pictures to let you know what kind of work usually leaves our salon. If there's ever any issue with clients we always offer redos, if a client ever has any issue they are encouraged to tell us that way that stylist or another more qualified stylist can fix it. After watching my savings go down the drain repeatedly at high-end salons with nothing to show for it, except failed color corrections, hot roots, and choppy, damaged hair, I almost gave up and went back to box dye, but in a last-ditch effort, I thought I'd try the JC Penny Salon in Silverdale, to just get a root touch up, haircut, toner, and a money piece. I went to Angela- the woman with blue hair- you can't miss her. my hair is somewhat tricky because I'm naturally blonde with fine hair and have a light brunette base with ashy blonde balayage. I know my hair and told her exactly how I want it, and Angela told me that she has plenty of experience working with hair like mine, so I trusted her. As the hours passed by, Angela completely did her own thing and refused to communicate w me or answer my questions. She turned the chair so I couldn't see what was going on and whenever I asked a question she would say something condescending. The roots were hot.. big surprise, so when she went to redo them, she wouldn't tell me what color she used. I was shocked by how many foils she was putting in but she assured me she wasn't going to touch the underneath of my hair which is darker for dimension. After two rounds of being under the dryer, she said that my hair looked as healthy as ever as she was washing the bleach out. We get to the chair, omg, my hair was FRIED, strands gummy, and even shaking a piece of hair lightly broke it off. Angela kept saying That this is normal and she said "well did you go to school for hair? No." And "I've been doing this forever, this is just what happens with bleach. She goes "are you an expert? No. (Laughs), I thought someone with blonde hair would know this is STANDARD" rude af With clumps of hair on the floor and yellow blotchy stringy hair with random pieces of dark weaved in, I left. This has trumped any failed hair attempt by a landslide. I talked to the manager who was nice and empathetic and she even seemed like this Angela character is off the rails and should quit her day job and go back to beauty school. RUN Don't walk away from this place. read more

First time being here yesterday and had a horrible experience I came in for a partial foil to touch up my roots for the holidays, tipped the stylist to wake up this morning in tears. My hair has boxed, un evened highlights that are orange!!! All around horrible experience and management. I am hoping to save someone else in not making my mistake. read more

I went to JC Penny Salon for hair color and a hair cut last Fri. I got my hair done by Mercy who my friend referred me to.  I didn't want the color to be too different as it grew.  I told her that I want it to be brown.  A little lighter than my original color and a little darker than the bottom colored hair. When I saw my hair in the mirror before shampooing I noticed that the top part is getting lighter than bottom. I let her know and she said that it would calm down and be the same color after shampooing. When I got home I could see the top part was lighter. I called the salon the next day, and I expressed my concerns about it.  They asked me to come in yesterday. I went in assuming that she would fix my hair. When I sat on the chair, she looked at my hair, and said it was the same color. It looked different because of the light. She even asked the stylist who was next to her who was doing another client's hair to check my hair color. Of course she would said it was the same color in front of her. And she said that she couldn't fix it. It was going to be $75 an hour if I wanted her to correct my hair when she messed up my hair in the first place. She kept lifting the bottom of my hair to the top to compare the color. She kept saying it was the same color. When I could see the bottom was darker. She also said I should have paid more than 200 at the beginning for a correction if I wanted it to be even. Nobody is going to a hair salon to get their hair color done unevenly. I would do it by myself if I had known that it was gonna be uneven. She never said anything about an extra charge for a correction at the first place Nothing made sense to me. I told her thank you and I got up and walked to the receptionist to see if the manager were available. As we were talking, the stylist came up and made excuses again, and asked the receptionist to take photos of my hair. I was very uncomfortable.  I am very upset that the stylist didn't want to take responsibility. Also, she made up a story that she already explained it at the beginning. In my opinion, stylists always correct or redo their mistakes if the client is not happy with the results. UPDATE: The salon manager Jessica called me today, and all she did was defending her employee. She didnt want to listen to me, and said that Mercy already explained everything that I had to pay extra for a correction. And she said I didn't want to pay for it . To be honest, we didn't have that kind of conversation at all. All I said was I got an estimate from the other salon for hair color by a phone and they said 120. The price wasn't for a correction just the salon was expensive. Now she twisted the story that I didn't wanna pay that much money for a correction. I feel like because I don't speak English very well she could make up the story. The manager said she trusted her employee, and she is a professional hairstylist. That saying I'm a lair? Bad management!!! read more

Went in today for a color and cut. Spoke with them on the phone multiple times in advance regarding what I wanted. Got to the salon about 10 to 15 minutes before my 1:00 pm appointment. Was told the stylist was running about 30 minutes behind and was I willing to wait. Since I took the afternoon off work. I said yes I would wait. I sat in their lobby for an hour. witnessing the Salon manager some through more than once complaining about various people and situations. At 1:55 I went up to the counter and asked when the stylist would be ready and I was told just a few minutes. She came out just before 2 pm and said she was ready. Gave me a cursory apology. after we sat down and looked at the picture she let me know that she was not able to do the colors I requested despite the previous phone conversations as she did not have enough time (not her problem she was an hour late) or color. This was apparently my issue as well even though I had communicated previously. Offered to do just my roots and cut since she did not have the time or product. I asked how much that would cost. I was told over $300 and still no discount or apology. I said no thank you I am not paying that much and not getting what I requested . As I walked out , I spoke with the Salon Manager and expressed my concerns. When I stated I waited an hour. I was told not really, it was only because I came in early. When I mentioned color. She stated I had been called more than once because she needed to source the product since they dont hold it in shop. I responded yes, I spoke with someone 3 times and told them the colors. Her response was that it was I did not communicate clearly enough. Zero empathy or apology from the shop manager or stylist! Please do not take the risk of using this salon. Not worth it in my opinion. I do not remember every having such a poor customer service experience or lack of caring. read more

First off, I was unaware that Penny's had stylists who were African American and/or knew how to do textured hair. They even do braids, extensions, , weaves, twist, natural and more. They should really change their marketing and diversify their ads. That is what kept me from seeking services. Now I don't have to drive an hour to get my hair done. I was very skeptical until Subrina met me at the front. I am pleased with her services (relaxer, cut, and flat iron). Hair was very straight and full of bounce and body. While there were people in the shop, it wasn't busy after work, so I did not experience any wait time. I'm excited to try the other stylist who does braids and twist! The only thing I did not like is the pricing...the website gives the option of having a full relaxer or retouch with a difference of about $35-$40. Their system does not do retouches so they charge the full amount of the relaxer. The price is still cheaper than had I gone an hour away. read more

This is the fourth salon I have been in two years, asking for the same haircut--a complicated cut--A dramatic asymmetrical inverted bob, with bangs. I was scheduled for a master but she was tied up with another client, so I had Emily do my cut. I showed her pictures as she shampooed my hair and we discussed what I wanted. I was in good hands, it was the first time a stylist NAILED IT! She gave me exactly what I asked for. Four ladies standing around, and not one would cut my husband's hair-they were too busy doing each others hair (for free I'm sure). They made us wait until someone showed up for work 30 minutes later! Then she gave us attitude because she had to cut hair and had just got to work. This was my first experience with JC Penny salon. I booked my appointment online with the time slots they had avail for a specific style/treatment. I received a phone call stating that the time slot for 3.25 hours (that they had online) wasn't going to be enough time for what I wanted done. I said ok and reschedule for the first thing following morning. We show up for the appointment only to be told "your stylist called out" ... you can come back at 2. The front desk ladies needs to work more on better customer service, phone manners, communication, for the manager to call me back like the lady said she would. I specifically asked for a BALAYAGE which it said on my receipt but the stylist that i had was really sweet and fixed my hair color. As a stylist to stylist, I wouldn't have charged a client if they weren't satisfied with their hair. I rather see a happy client walk out the door than being upset. Okay, so I usually have a good experience here and the lady that does the best job was on vacation (for the life of me I cannot remember her name). I made an appointment for 10 and had it confirmed. I got there early with my coffee, checked in at the desk, and waited patiently for my turn. It was not busy and I just kept waiting. About 10 minutes past my scheduled time the receptionist told me my stylist was running a little late. No big deal, I read a magazine and all of a sudden it is almost 11.. The receptionists were HIGHLY unprofessional. One of them was talking about how sick she was the night before and how she couldn't stop sweating, and also talking about their boss in a bad way. This was all within earshot of me and the other lady who were the only ones waiting. I finally went to the front desk again and asked about my appointment. Apparently, the receptionist did not check me in, and my stylist was there already.... The stylist was very apologetic and I did not make a fuss about it since the receptionist was new. Haircut went fine, but since I have curly hair she left me with wet hair -- didn't even bother with a blow dry. Then as an apology they give me two of the smallest samples I have ever seen. No discount, or coupon, but small samples that were intended for color treated hair (which mine is not). The receptionist that messed up never apologized to me and couldn't even make eye contact with me when I paid. Awhile after this experience I straightened my hair. When I looked at the back of my head in the mirror I was appalled at how terrible my layers looked. I guess the stylist didn't line up my hair the correct way so there is this spot that is just chopped straight across and it stands out really badly. I will NEVER be returning to this salon especially now that I know the only good stylist there is moving to Europe. Save yourself the time and the money by avoiding this place. read more

I'm going to keep this simple, but honest. I'm a licensed beautician and was shocked when you melted my hair off. I don't want to use names because I'm assuming neither the stylist nor the manager has many years of customer service background, and I don't want to ruin your careers. A few pointers for the stylist: 1. If you don't feel confident about preforming a service, decline doing the service. This protects you from getting a bad reputation, and it protects me from having shitty hair. 2. If I tell you I only want 1/2 inch cut off my hair, and you argue with me- that is not customer service. Proceeding to melt 3 inches off my hair is also not customer service and not listening to your customer. 3. If you have to ask me what peroxide volume my previous stylist used on my hair, that indicates that you made the wrong choice. It would have been nice to hear you admit it. 4. If you notice previous damage in a clients hair (which you did- good for you), that means you do NOT pull bleach through the ends. This was such a rookie mistake, and it pained me to watch you do it. 5. I wasn't feeling well and yeah, that was part of the reason I wouldn't let you cut my hair. But I also watched you pull clumps of hair out of my head, and that reassured me that there was no way I was going to let you cut my hair. A few pointers to the manager: 1. I understand that you need to defend your employee, but there's also a grain of listening to the customer that needs to go into the process as well. 2. After speaking with you on the phone, I thought we came to an understanding to refund what i had paid. I didn't even push for it, I let YOU come to that decision. I came back in to the salon assuming I wouldn't have to restate my case. And I shouldn't have had to. Period. 3. I left a handful of my hair on your counter after the service I received yesterday, that was proof enough. 4. If you're going to touch someone's hair who just had it melted off at your salon, you better f*cking ask first. 5. Telling me that my hair doesn't appear to be too bad after I've told you I cut 3-4 inches off myself, does not indicate that my hair didn't melt off as well. It simply means I was unwilling to wake up today and have the same nightmare experience that i had the night before. 6. Take some personal responsibility for your employees. All in all, I probably wouldn't have written a review had the experience with the manager been a better one. Such a disappointment, but definitely a good opportunity for both the stylist and the manager to learn customer service and integrity. read more
