I am very disappointed with JCP's customer service policy. I bought a 10K gold men's necklace on Saturday (12/09/2023) in one of the stores and didn't adhere to their guarantee plan. Today, after exactly 4 days (12/13/2023), I went to position my pendant and opened one of the links on my chain. I went to the JCP store in Madison - East Towne Mall to request an exchange of the product, considering that it had only been 4 days and was not misused. Considering that I did not adhere to the warranty plan, so they refused to exchange the product or cancel the sale. This was the worst service I have ever received as a customer. They sell a product of poor quality, and when you just ask to exchange the product, they ignore you and don't treat you the way a customer should be treated. I don't recommend buying anything from this store; they don't put the customer first, which shows how bad the company is, in addition to having products of poor quality, especially gold jewelry. Be careful when deciding to purchase anything at one of the JCP stores. Look for other, more serious stores that recognize the value of a customer. Remember, you will only understand what I'm saying when you need customer service. read more

I would give it 1 star due to the Manager's surliness tonight, but I've been enough times before and had good experiences that I won't let her bad manners, ill-conceived notion of customer service and attempt to argue with me throw the score down any lower. A word of advice: don't argue with this customer. I'd say no customer as I've worked retail long enough. For my part, I was NOT complaining but stating the obvious of what occurred and could be seen as profiling to alert her so changes could be made and every associate follow procedure - instead she wanted to teach me. It wasn't necessary & any time you feel the need to teach whip out the written policies. The issue: I have a Blackberry (smartphone like most of my generation) I don't have to print things off and bring it in when you can scan the code/QR/ or I can read the info to you which I've done plenty a times as I don't carry dept. store cards with me. Well, tonight - 1 assoc said she had to look up the number. In 8yrs of being in MSN - I've never heard that. So I say - I have the number. No need. Well, I have to. I ask to call the manager. She took folks behind me so I went to the next register. 2nd Assoc. takes the number WITHOUT having to look up anything. My license is enough (as it has always been) and at this moment the manager steps over to tell her what she should do - hence - the look it up policy comes up. WHAT AM I TRYING TO BUY, YOU ASK: jewelry, something expensive.... NOPE~ a $10 toaster. Yes. I need a toaster. lol I explain to the Mgr with no apprehensions or defenses that the inconsistencies need to be addressed and I've never had this issue in 8yrs. No worries if this is the policy get everyone on the same page so it doesn't look like profiling - in short - PROTECT YOURSELF. A simple thank you and we will would have been sufficient. She starts to go on and on about everything else. My point: GO WEST. JCP WestTowne has less cumbersome issues. Have any of you been to JCPenney recently? WOW! It's on the up! First of all, the new pricing policy is great. Three tiers: 1) standard price, 2) month-long specials, 3)markdowns straight to "best price" - so if you see something with the red tag you know that it's the lowest it'll be. And, wow, they are going low. I got my little cousin 5 shirts, 1 skort, and a pair of jeans for $17 2 weeks ago for her birthday. Yes, kids clothes are cheaper than adult clothes in general, but this was just a steal. Last night I found a pair of M-N-G (Mango) jeans for $5. FIVE DOLLARS! And they're doing a total remodel of the store and have already installed a really fashion-forward jeans department featuring Levi's products (which, sadly, have never worked for me - but it's still a well designed department) and a really wonderful, if a bit small, shoe department. Fashion-wise, having lived in Europe for 3 years I can say with confidence that the M-N-G line that Mango is doing for Penney's is sometimes even better than the stuff in their standard stores in the UK and Europe (I kept noticing this on trips to the US). They've also got other designer collaborations and seem to be trying to compete with the fashion-forward nature of Target, etc. while keeping hold on the more traditional department store branding as well. Since moving back to the US in the Spring, I've been shopping more at Penney's that I had in probably the 5 years before I left. This location and the West Towne location are really making great strides. read more

Two stars for excellent pricing on eyewear and a pretty good selection. No real 'names' so if you're looking for Coach sunglasses, move along. I needed new glasses, so prescription in hand I went shopping for frames. Actually, I found JCP Optical by accident, didn't know they even HAD an optical center. Found a great pair of frames and a great price, handed over my RX and completed the order. SImple, huh? Not quite. It took THREE tries and FOUR WEEKS to get my eyeglasses. Apparently, their glasses are made in New Jersey by blind elves who lack the ability to grind glass using sophisticated machinery. Many phone calls and much ado ensues, finally I receive my glasses no less than 30 days from the date of order. That was frustrating, but to their credit, they gave me half off the final price. read more

I've read about how poorly Penney's is doing, and I hope they can get it together because I like this place. I really like their exercise wear (I found these fantastic running bras for less than $20!!) and they seem to always have lots of stuff marked down. They also have, at least in the women's section, quite a few dressing rooms, which I LOVE. I discovered their ship-to-store option and am a fan. You find your items on the website (there are reviews for most things, also appreciated), order and pay for them, and have them sent to the Penney's of your choice. If you get more than $25 of merchandise they ship to the store for free. You waltz in to any register and give them your info (you need your phone number and the credit card you used, if I remember right), then they get on the walkie-talkie and have somebody bring your bag/box to the register. I recommend not going during a super-busy time if possible, but otherwise it didn't take long at all. read more

Why does a transaction take seven full minutes? I'm buying boxed jewelry -- I'm not applying for a mortgage. I've visited this JCP several times over the last few years when I needed to buy some gifts or necessities. Every time, I've waited a good five minutes in line and another at least five minutes waiting for the cashier to ring up my purchase. I've also filled out the JCP survey (from the receipt) every time and described the incredibly slow experience. When I have to go into this JCP, I intentionally rush my shopping and searching because I assume I'll be spending the majority of my time in the store standing at the checkout. read more

You get the same thing as any JC Penney here in terms of good sales, coupons, and generally affordable clothing. It's probably closer to a 2.5, though, because it's desperately in need of an update. Everything seems kind of stark and understocked. Our last visit was understaffed with few registers open. The person who did check us out was pleasant and apologetic about having to delay our transaction to help the people who checked out ahead of us with a last-minute question. The store serves its purpose but I'd probably spend more time and money there if it was a more inviting atmosphere. read more

My husband and I have been loyal customers of JC Penney Optical - Madison East for years. Our experience in the last 6 months, however, has soured us and we will never return our business again. My hopes in posting our story is to save someone else from the ordeal we're still enduring. We live in a rural area approximately 30 minutes from the store, so keep that in mind when reading about all of the repeated visits below. My husband has a strong prescription, and after getting an optical exam from the onsite optomitrist, ordered an expensive pair of glasses from their optical center. Delivery was projected to take 2 weeks. Approximately 3 weeks later, he placed a call to see if they'd come in. Indeed they had, so when he went to the store to pick them up, he found that his vision was somewhat blurred. The technician told him to give them a try - sometimes there is an adjustment period - and come back in a week if it was still off. A week later, it was no better. He brought them back again and the manager looked at them and made some adjustment to the angle of the lenses. It was an improvement, and so he took the glasses back home with us again. A short time later - maybe a month? - one of the lenses popped out of the frame. He brought it back again to get it fixed. The woman at the counter pushed them back in and called it "good enough." By mid-June, three months after the glasses had been ordered, the lens had once again popped out of the frame. This time, the manager decided to replace the frame with one from the store, deeming the orignal as defective. He popped the lenses out and put them into the same (new) frame. Within an hour, my husband noticed that there was now a chip in the bottom of one of the lenses. He called to report the error, was told the manager had left for the day and that there was nothing they could do over the phone. The manager's day off was supposedly Tuesdays, but he was otherwise "here all the time" so come back in. Over the course of the next 2 months, he tried visiting at least 5 times and missed the manager every time. He started calling ahead, only to arrive and find that all staff had gone to lunch, the manager went home, etc. His scratch-resistent lenses, in the meantime, were getting all beat up and he could barely see through them. Finally, mid-September, he caught up with the manager (I think his name is Gary, but am not sure). Gary agreed to defect out the entire glasses since there's been so much that's gone wrong thus far. He ordered a replacement pair and said the wait would be another 2 weeks. It's now been 5 weeks and we're still waiting. Calls to the store have offered such excuses as "they should be in on today's shipment" and "Hmmmm... They must have lost the order. I'll expidite another pair" (that one was 3 weeks ago). I will be contacting the district manager today to see if they can do anything for us. After more than aq dozen wasted trips to the store, I strongly recommend that you save your heard-earned money and take your business to a more professional corporation. We are really disappointed and hope that someone else can be saved this ordeal. read more

My experience there in one word: HORRIBLE. The salesmen (all 3 that I dealt with) in the men's section were terrible. They acted as if they didn't care about their jobs or the customer. I tried to get a suit jacket tailored and it took 3 tries before it was done correctly. Even though they have CHEAP prices, I got what I paid for. Hanging a "Customer Service" sign over the cash registers does not magically transform your cashiers into a Customer Service department. So imagine my dismay when I went to "Customer Service" to inquire about fitting rooms because I couldn't find any sales associates on the floor and still had to wait for 2 groups before me to checkout. read more

I wear a 36w 29i and was pleasantly surprised to find that virtually all of their pants came in my size. I look great and for not a whole bunch of money. So there we were, all scheduled to get family photos done and we waited an hour to have nobody show up. Not only that, there wasn't even an employee I could talk to. They had a sign up that said "We'll be right back." Yeah right. This place is a piece of garbage, in fact I wish I could give it zero stars.
