Totally worth an annual visit no matter if you make a purchase or not. Books and gifts can at least make you laugh or think of someone for the holidays. If you shop around the joint, you can find good deals, but I'm not sure how long the clothes will last. Urban sure does bring it at Maxwell Street Days. In years past, I've gotten awesome little tops, basics, winter gear, gag gifts, cheap shoes. There are usually many staff folding clothes (I seem to love that) and available to check out customers.

I'm reviewing the Hilldale location because I think it's a benefit that Madison has a physical location for customers to really feel and see the item and ensure that their clothes will stand the test of time. Every time I've popped into Madewell, the store is clean, the sale section is big, and staff are gracious and friendly. Fitting rooms are closed right now due to COVID, which is something to keep in mind. I did get fit and styling tips for a couple items that I was unsure about, so I love that they offer that in-person touch for a site that I've mainly shopped at online. One of the items I was interested in was out of stock in the store, and the staffperson was able to order from the online site to my house but include the different store deals on my order, which is a service I appreciated. The most radical difference is Athleta's super generous return policy. I would say that Athleta is also a little more casual wear oriented than Lululemon. Like Lululemon, they offer free pant alterations, weekend free exercise classes, and always a lot of new styles of tops and leggings. The store's inventory is much smaller than online, but if you use the computer inside the store, you can order whatever you like with free ship. The back of the store does offer a couch for tired shoppers, as well as a lot of free class cards at local gyms. Athleta is superior to Lululemon for me. Sometimes you just gotta return stuff.

At any time there will be 4-5 people working in the store--and not doing anything--and they will just ignore customers. It's difficult to get help with anything and if you do have a question or need help, the staff makes you feel like you're inconveniencing them.
