That corporate looking building is so out of place in this old small town architecture wise.
    Steven T.

I was out with friends having lunch in town and they wanted to do some shopping so I was dragged along to this store that has a huge out of place corporate headquarters looking building around the corner. Not knowing anything about this company and walking through the store I understood why that big shiny building is in a small town USA is there, it's a tough clothing store for hard working every day people that a pair of Levi's just will not do. The store is for men and women who do the tough jobs that keep the country going with everything from underwear to foot ware, skin care to beard care and just about everything needed for the person who needs better quality than average work clothing. The in store Wally Keller tool museum was unexpected and cool to look at even though I have no idea what all these tools actually do. The coffee lounge has comfy chairs with a wood stove and a small book store on the end. Even though I have no need for this store that specializes in the tough job needs of hard working people and I didn't buy anything but I really like how much thought was put into the needs of the people who need this level of quality.

Wally Kellner tool museum inside the store. Super cool.

Plenty of time to wear them around while I visited the tool museum and other items of interest in the store.

They seem yo have a little bit of everything gift related that's Scandinavian. I've bought beautiful ceramic Christmas ornaments there and even my wedding jewelry. This last trip I found the most unique watercolor books for my son and his cousin as well as a cookie cutter in the shape of a cat- this Christmas our sugar cookies will be shaped like our kitty! They have beautiful sweaters and children's books and a variety of Nordic sweets as well. They're also really nice and helpful- although a lovely place to shop!

Once I was inside, my husband looked quickly into each of the rooms and came back and said, "I think we're going to be here a while!!"  haha!  He knows I be spending a lot of time there... They have everything you can imagine (except Lutefisk! - but that's fine with me, I didn't want any!!!). There is clothing, food, candy, cooking utensils, home décor, furniture, Christmas decorations, and so much more.  Not only do they have Scandinavian items, they have German gifts too. There were samples of a traditional Scandinavian almond cake out for people to try, and it was SO good.  I ended up buying an almond cake pan of my own so I can make it myself.  After searching the whole place for the perfect rosemal-decorated almond cake serving tray, I found one up at the cashier.  She was just about to put it on display, but I snatched it up before she could! I ended up buying an almond cake pan, a cake serving tray, 6 chocolate bars (Melkesjokolade - best chocolate bars everrrr), and a Norge sticker for my car.  I hope to be back in the area again someday, with LOTS more money.

The clothing options are plentiful and reasonably priced, and you can't help but find one or two pieces for whatever you are shopping for. I am still kicking myself for the dress I didn't get but love the one I did! Today I stopped in for holiday decor and happened to hit a 25% off sale which brought reasonable prices down to "you can't not get it" levels. Hostess gifts, centerpieces, accent odds and ends - great selection. They have a huge accessory selection as well and I'm so thankful I didn't "need" a new pair of gloves and matching hat today as it would have been a tough choice. Mount Horeb is home to several really fun shops and this is the first stop as you head into town so don't miss it!

What an awful, stupid experience…read more This all started because their lattes DO NOT COME WITH ESPRESSO. The staff acted like I was an idiot for asking if the iced lavender latte I ordered had espresso. I'm 40 and have never ordered an "iced latte" from a cafe just to be served cold milk, but that's exactly what I got. I asked if I could get it remade with coffee, and they again brought out just iced milk with syrup. This time I asked for just a couple shots of espresso on the side so I could add it to the drink. They eventually at the end of the meal brought out a mug full of lukewarm espresso - probably 4-6 shots! I added a splash to my drink, mixed, and it was (finally) really tasty! But then I got my bill and they had tacked an extra $5 ($2.95 for the espresso + another $2.00 for ???) On top of already paying $4.95 for just cold flavored milk, I guess? When I tried to explain what happened, the cashier, I assume Karin, got combative and that's when I learned this entire weird experience was because they simply don't include espresso in their lattes! At any point somebody could've cleared this up, the cashier knew exactly what the issue was as soon as I asked about the charges, and was ready to argue! I was told "that's just how they named it" and I should've "read the description". So I would've known they're the only place I've ever encountered that considers just flavored iced milk at $4.95 a "latte". She said "chai & matcha lattes don't have espresso" therefore it shouldn't be assumed a "latte" comes with espresso. Chai & matcha have their own caffeine! It's the caffeine that makes a latte, not milk. Why in the hell am I literally arguing the definition of a latte with this lady??? I was really chill up until this point. I was more incredulous than anything. Served just iced milk twice? Takes almost the whole meal to just get gross overload of espresso? Whatever. But to then be charged an extra $5 (making this drink almost $10!) and argued with by staff? That was a bridge too far. Went from just a weird, bad time to a positively nasty time. Top 3 worst dining experiences. Good job, Spring Green General Store, these out-of-towners definitely won't be back, which seemed to be the point. Hope the extra $5 you bullied out of us was worth it!

I obsessively went here to look at shoes for myself, but as is often in the case, I park in the back through the Men's department, so I go through the Men's department and lots of lovely things. Very lovely presentation not a lot of sale which surprise me for January, considering it's end of season, but there were some things and they were still kind of expensive so I took a pass on that and adjacent to the Men's department. Is the kids department specifically the baby department and my son has a brand new baby. So I toggle in because nothing is better shopping than shopping for your grandbaby who is adorable and just turned a month old so I get in there and you know it's not cheap. You know it's pricey, but there's features there. Better quality materials better better things you know and here's the thing here's why you really shopped there the service it's all about the service. I was helped by a woman. Her name is Linda. She was covering from the women's department also the babies department or kids and she approached me and she greeted me with warmth and care and she offered me help if I needed it I've made conversation with her. She ended up understanding who I was shopping for what I was shopping for and why I was shopping. I cannot tell you the level of difference in service between Von Maur, and Macy's . Linda was the reason I bought she gave me an experience! And at the end of the day, isn't that really part of what we're doing when we shop it's part of the experience and I will go back there to buy more from that department you know maybe I won't be the biggest shopper the store has ever seen, but I will shop there and I will spend my money there for things that I see value in and that's exciting because you don't see that anymore. Additionally, I did also get my package gift wrapped and the ladies and the gift wrap department were super sweet. The one girl's name was Alexandria and she was just lovely. I also briefly met. I believe a manager it was a younger woman and she was lovely and she really the thing I liked about her was I was talking to Linda. She she smiled and she piped up a little bit, but she really let Linda shine. She was not there to overshadow her and and that is so important that's what leadership looks like in a retail space so congratulations to Von Maur as they have the service thing down, I only concern is things are a little pricey there and you know how can that be sustained in our current economy? I wish them luck, but yeah if you want to have a great experience and buy some nicer things go there.
