My mother had been in search for a curio display cabinet all year long, pricing them here, Macy's, Living Spaces, etc. Finally, at the end of September she decided to walk in and order the cabinet she saw months before. She was helped very pleasantly by a gentleman named Gus, who stood beside her & took her desired order (Mahogany 2 piece Curio) and shipping word for word. But, of course, if it seems perfect, something is bound to go wrong!! My mother agreed to a 5 day shipping to the store, which meant the CUSTOMER would pick up the delivery at JCPenney via truck or flatbed, but get it SOONER. The 5th day arrived & no word from JCP, so she called & got no information other than the package was probably en route, which is why it was not traceable. Ok; factors can delay a shipment, it was understandable. Everyday after, my parents waited for the call, but kept getting the runaround. Until around the 11th day they were alerted that the curio was damaged & sent back. Angrily, my mother was about to pull the order, but decided to wait it out, once the store agreed to now deliver the new curio to our home. It took 16 days to receive our delivery, and a huge back and forth dilemma with the store. Once arrived, my father began to open the boxes to begin building the set; only to lay eyes on OAK wood!! Annoyed, he opened another box & was relieved to find the MAHOGANY set. It dawned on him; they sent us 2 entire curios. Thinking that it was just confusion at the warehouse; we called to make sure we were not charged twice. SURE ENOUGH, my mother had shitty service AND had her card charged twice. NEVER AGAIN; everything the cashier Gus explained & showed us in the terms were truly written as he explained; but JCP did not deliver on their end. Went to Jcpenny on black friday i already know expect long lines. But to wait in line for your items (1hr waiting) and when you get to the register they dont honor their additional 50% off all clearance. Thats a waste of time. Bad customer service all the way from the girls that didn't know how to ring up they had to ask eachother how to do stuff to the manager that doesn't know how to treat customers without the rudeness. Corperate people if u are reading this please train your people this store looks sloppy they didnt recover the store from the day before a pile in the corner is not shopable. Absolutely my favorite store . Really nice clothes for juniors and even older women. I also love the kids selection and they always have incredible stuff on clearance and on sale. The downside? We visited that location from making monthly payments for the credit card when we exited at the doctor's office, 6 blocks away from the store. The Lakewood Center store was much better than this one. We looked something to buy her clothes to afford. We had to choose the right size for her job, but they ran out of stock because the employees and managers were not looking so good. It is irresponsible to us to find the right fit for the black or blue colored pants and the right color of her shirts for her work, don't you? We are very angry with the employees that the bigger clothes were running out of stock. My mom has been paid a monthly payment for $60. She needs to buy a new shoes for getting her work. But she founded at her right size. I bought a new hat for the fashion masculinity. The total price that we bought was $59.52, do you? The customer service was somewhat slower because the customers were getting too much time and taking many items to afford. I came to return a dress and half the registers were malfunctioning so the lines were insane mid-day on a Wednesday! AND with four registers per station, only two registers were open per station. And it was a mess! Hats were on display next to an employee only door in the men section and they were piled on the floor. It was so messy! Most of the sale representatives are rude and lack total customer service skills . Does management NOT train their employees before putting them out there on the sales floor ? No greetings , no smiles, no friendly conversation ...just rude mostly young millennials who talk only amongst themselves and again lack customer service skills desperately. Not only is this stores customer service bad , the company itself has a terrible return policy . I made a purchase with my debit card , and I ended up having to return the item the next day . I was shocked to learn first that I could not receive my cash back , especially since it was a debit card which is basically same as cash everywhere else , and Secondly I was told by the cashier at the returns that my money would be returned to my account in 24 hours usually . Twenty four hours !??? What sort of retailers take 24 hours to refund my money??? The moment I walked out of their store upon purchase of the item , that money was already taken out of my account , so why in the world do I have to wait 24 hours for my refund ???? Wow never in my life have I seen such a messy store. I went in this week on Tuesday afternoon to check if they still carried young boys suits. I immediately noticed the racks were disorganised but I was happy to see they still carried a small suit section. So I came back with my son on Wednesday afternoon hoping to find a suit that would fit. The racks I expected to find it at least more organised than the day prior, it was now worse!! It was a complete mess, things everywhere and all over the floor. I would have to look through 8 racks of clothes just to find the matching pant to the jacket I found. No thanks! I decided I would go home and order online. To make matters worse I found something I wanted my son to try on just for size so I could assure my order would be correct and low and behold the dressy room was a disaster! I ordered online and chose this store to pick up my items. The line was extremely long and only one associate helping the customers. This is ridiculous. As soon as the one gets long, the associate should be able to ask for back up help. I waited 30 minutes to pick up my order. For this reason, I will no longer order online for pick up. Nor will I shop at this store again until customer service improves. In fact, while I waited in line the customer in front of me was also picking up an order and they could not find the items. Apparently, the items were mailed in different packages, accordingly to the young lady helping, and could not be found. This store needs to get organized! JCP HAIR SALON, A great place to get a Haircut especially from ANGELA. She is a very competent individual and her skill is crisp. I've been getting my haircuts and hair care needs from Angela for years now she is simply Awesome at her trade. She makes you feel comfortable listens attentively and advises prior to any service, to give you the best possible and have you looking your very best. You can tell she understands hair. It is frustrating not finding a competent person that does descent haircuts. Angela is more than competent she is a well rounded Beautician. I never leave disappointed she is very attentive to detail and genuinely cares about the outcome of her work. So I brought that concern to Raven in hopes of her saying that she would get another register opened so that we( customers) could leave. Her response was that the entire registers on the bottom floor were not working!!!! What?!! That is an insult to my intelligence. While she is telling me all of these things she is like clapping and fisting her hands like she about to hit me. It is frustrating to be in front of a so called manager that is worthless. Jcpenny corporate will be hearing from me and my experience. This is not right for a manager to say " there is nothing I can do for you" Btw, This place says it closes at 9 but in reality they close at 8 they turn off half of the store lights and close half of the doors. In order to discourage shoppers from shopping. They also start announcing over the intercom at 8:10 about their closing time and every 10mins from then on. Took my daughter to get some jeans last week and this particular store is a MESS! I like JCPenny but I told her I would never come to this Downey store again, I'd rather drive to Whitwood... took us 30 min to find her size in that big mess, dressing rooms were covered in clothes, had to clean out the fitting room myself and saw 2 employees folding cloths very slowly as they were very caught up in they're conversation. I purchased a watch in Montebello and tried to exchange it for the same model here in the Downey store due to the links breaking twice on me, well they tell me that they can't do a exchange due to it being resized, so I call Montebello and they tell me I was able to exchange because i got it re sized in the store and purchased the protection plan , I call the Downey store back and Ruth answers tell me that the manager wasn't there but when I had left the store 5 minutes prior a manager called Luis assured me that there was no way to return my watch , but it was resized at a jc penny and I purchased the protection plan , I've purchased 6 watches already all of them 600 dollars or more never had I tried returning until this time and I get lies from your store employees, do me a favor and teach your employees how to do their job right read more

Every time I go here the lines are ridiculous! I love buying my gym clothes here because they have really cute styles and when its on sale its a steal. So I buy ALL of my gym clothes at JCP and have been more than happy with both the quality and style. SOooo why the bad review you ask??? Well..... there have been several times I believed I was still an XS (insert Journey's song Don't stop believing here) and find myself dragging my Medium size ass in the return line a week later. Every time I've ALWAYS had to wait in a customer service line with a handful of other disappointed, angry, and irritated customers that have also probably given up on their dreams, hopes, and reality that we all just wasted 30 minutes of our lives in a return line. No matter what time, day or freaking year.. the customer service and lines are always crap for returns... I've even gone in the am, when they first open and had to wait in line (mind you I was the only customer in line) but the clerk was always off somewhere fluffing pillows or organizing towels.. I had to go to the nearest checkout and have them call the clerk to the customer service desk.. UGHHHHHH no matter what, even the first freaking customer I had to wait!!! Is this a predictor of my life? Is waiting and wasting my time a test of my patience? Went to exchange a size on a shirt, cashier had no clue how to do it. She wanted to charge me more money. All I wanted was a size exchange ! 2nd inconvenience was when I went to pay a lease bill. I was waiting in line for about 20 minutes patiently I was in no rush. Do not go here, seriously. I brought my two toddler boys for Halloween pictures for a 10 am appointment - there was no one there. We waited over an hour, chasing my toddlers around, none of the employees seemed to know any way to help us locate a portrait studio employee. I was told at 11 that a manager would be there at 1130. Went to the food court, management called me at 1145 saying so sorry, they could fit me in at 2. They comped me a couple portrait sheets (thanks, I get coupons that treat me better). I told them I'd like to be seen earlier, they said if I went to the lakewood location there would be no wait. Drove over there, wasn't seen until 1:30. Such a waste of time and effort. My kids, who were happy and clean at 10am were tired and frustrated at 1:30. I will never go back to either location. read more

I am beyond disappointed in our J. C. Penny's Downey Store. The new Store manager will not allow cashiers to have paper coupons at check out. So, I tried to get Wifi connection downstairs, but I could not get connection.i then ran up to main floor but still I was unable to get wifi connection.( this experience after realizing I left my coupon at home, was frustrating that the cashier couldn't give me a store coupon. Next time I'm shopping at Macy's Department store!!I've been a long time customer of JC Penny's the past 34 years. He was very informative and patience. He understood when we said we would go check other places out. His service skills are outstanding and he walked us through discounts and refunds. Store closes @ 9pm but at 8:30pm JCP was turning OFF the lights and kicking customers out. When asked to speak to the supervisor in charge of the store "Raven" introduced herself as the supervisor. When I asked her why were the light getting shutdown so early she states, "they shutdown automatically and the alarm sets itself at 9pm so I need to get everyone out before 9pm." When I told her she I was going to report it to her corporate she said she turned them off to start the closing process. JCP Corporate needs to know what kind of managers it has managing their stores. This is not the first time I experience this at this same location. They turn off the light 30 minutes early to kick customer out before closing time so they (employees) can fly out of there right at close. They also lock all their doors and force customers to only use the door by returns not caring were the customer parked. I had to walk all around the outside of the building to get to my car on the other side of JCP. Raven needs to be disciplined and fired. Raven was RUDE and was talking to me as if I was an idiot. JCP, your horrible management team is making you look bad and lose sales. read more

End of October we purchased some mattress long story short they were delivered last week 8 long weeks after. The store said they would give us a credit for the inconvenience after they arrived. Went on the day they were delivered -they took our information and said they would mail us a $100 gift card. How is that credit? Second- we ordered a ring online un November we received an email on the way to store on 12/02 Never heard anything else. We went to the store On 12/22-they said it hadn't arrived. We went back n made them look for it and it was there just not registered as arrived. Luckily one of the ladies that has been there longer was there and she solved the problem. On this same day register downstairs wasn't working associates were calling for "supervisor " for over 30 minutes and no one wold come down. They were walkimg customers upstairs for a receipt.
