First of this is the messiest department store I have ever seen! I live in Downey and have been here 3 times. It's just disgusting the way they leave the store. For this reason I do not shop here. Anyways that's not why I am writing a review. I am writing one for the PHOTO STUDIO there. Last Sunday we had an 11am appointment for 3 kids. My 2 nieces 3 years old and 9 years old and my son was 7 weeks old. We weren't seen until after 1130. They spent a long time on the 3 year old boy before us.... lucky them. Anyways by the time they saw us the 3 year old was wild... and thankfully the 7 week old was some what good because I breastfeed him while we waited. They probably spent approximately 15 mins on all 3 kids. Which was disappointing because that's how much time they spent on the one boy before us. When it came time to review the photos there was only 3 photos of my son.... and then another 2 of him with the other 2 girls. That did not leave me much to choose from. I'm kinda piss coz my son was pretty calm (and he's definitely not always like that). I didn't want to buy any photos because I was really disappointed with the whole experience. But grandma is a sucker and had to buy them (even though she was not happy with the experience either). I didn't want to waste our money there but I can't stop anyone else from spending money I guess. What's even more disappointing was that the lady reviewing the photos with us kept rushing us. It was extremely frustrating. Anyways today I found out the my brother in law called and complained about the experience. They offered them a free 8x10... whoop dee doo an entire value of $4. Do you know how hard it is to prepare a 7 week old to leave the house and get him in this nice calm state. You wasted my time and energy. I'm pissed because grandma spent $75.... whhhyyyy we could get much better pictures from somewhere else where we would be treated like valued customers. For the lines here alone, they deserve one star. I literally hate coming to this store. The lines are ridiculously long, with all the registers closed up stairs. No reason for that other than they want to save a dollar and not schedule more employees. You would think they could afford it with all the bogus "sales" they have. read more

Make sure to at least have people picking up and folding during operating hours! I went yesterday after noon and it was slow. Yet no one was cleaning up the filth they had. My son needed a few items, so my family and I decided to drop in JCP Stonewood Downey. And to my surprise, endless aisles of clothing on the floor, dressing rooms, all over the place including stacks and stacks at the registers. Ive shopped here for years and it was never this bad, I'm just sorry I didn't take pictures. My thought was where is the on duty Store Manager or some one that can take reigns and put this place back together. STAT. I walked by a couple of employees from different departments and everyone complained because all they're doing is folding clothes. I over heard one saying "I feel bad for the person who has to pick up and fold clothes in the kids section" You drive a few mies down the road to the Whittier JC Penney and its nothing like what I walked into this past Sunday. Drive a little further to the Brea location, and its in very good order. Appearance is everything. I thought I was in Walmart, then again, I don't even shop there anymore. Simply ghetto. There was only one person at the register in all of the downstairs level, just one person. No one at the women's register station, it was closed. I don't know, maybe because it was Mother's Day employee's took the day off? who knows JCP Downey definitely needs some restructuring. I was just appalled at the appearance of the entire store. Shame on you JCP! If I could give any negative points, this would be it. -5. Unsure when I'll be back to this location. I'll just go to Montebello, Whittier or Brea. As far as I know, this store wasn't on the hit list to be closed. I ordered a pair of slippers from there online selection which said same day pickup available. Order placed at 8am. Gave the store a call around 5pm that evening about my order which I was told might be available the next day. Defeated the entire purpose of same day pickup. Called to cancel the order the next day and was told my order was still processing even though they had already taken my money as soon as I placed the order the day before. I took my daughter to get her hair curled before promotion ceremony arrived at 10:45, were helped by a very nice girl she said she would charge us$50 to curl her hair etc. I explained that my daughters hair is super straight and curls don't hold. She mentioned not to worry she was adding product and curls would hold we sat there for almost 2 hours by the time we left curls were flat and hair partial up do looked like a mess my daughter was upset since we had to be at school by 1 and she wasn't even ready I didn't have a chance to discuss lack of effort. No. My review is staying the same. This review is for the portrait studio. She tried. Well, kind of. I know my baby's a baby and moves around a lot, but the photos were just... ehhh... okay. I liked some (not loved). Other pictures were just... awful. Thank goodness I had a coupon, so I only picked out the ones I liked. I ended up spending $30 for about seven sheets of photos, which isn't terrible for pictures I like (again, not love). I think she knew I wasn't too fond of them, but she had another appointment... so, I think that's why she didn't offer to retake them or take more. Or maybe it's not policy. I don't know. Do not get your holiday photos taken here. The store was managed so poorly I was almost compelled to go into the photography business myself. I counted several miscues along the way, starting with scheduling photos every 10 minutes when it clearly takes 45 minutes per shoot. Never mind the unnecessary labor intensive, time-draining practice of having Sales Associates edit and filter through the round of photos after the session. While I was there a litany of folks expressed their outrage at the scheduling and while one of the Sales Associates was able to hold it together, the other two seemed to be moving at their own pace, resigned to another long, slow day. I went to Jcpenny to shop for Christmas gifts and the entire visit from beginning I walked in a Lady with curly hair kept following me and my sisters and we all felt uncomfortable with her acting as if she's picking or hanging clothes. We did a little jewelry shopping as well and once we got what we wanted to buy moved onto the next department she stopped us and said she would need to take the items to jewelry and pay. That's unheard of I been going there for over 30 years and never felt worse about doing my shopping there. About a year and a half ago, I must have angered the customer service gods. Here it goes. I want to purchase a Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker. Go on JC Penney website - they have it. Go on find it in a store - Downey has it. Drive to Downey. Look all over - can't find it. Ask a person manning the service counter - he looks high and low - can't find it. Goes on their computer - yup, they have 3! Looks again - nope. I'm about to leave - but I decide I'll ask for the store manager. After all, I drove over here because I wanted it today (and to avoid the $8 shipping) and figure maybe I'll get some love. The girl at the jewelry counter ignores me for a couple of moments, then I get to ask for the manager. She says the manager left. [Pause] So I ask for an assistant manager [pause] - let me get somebody. Out comes a "Lead Expert." I'm not sure what a Lead Expert is, but definitely not well versed in customer service. Stammers a little, offers a generic apology, then basically guesses that the floor models somehow threw off the count, then says I can order it online. OK genius - I know I could have ordered it online, but I wanted it today and thought I'd save on a little shipping. So I tell him I could have ordered it online without coming to the store. Why do they have the find in the store feature if it's not accurate? [Blank stare] OK - here's my lesson in customer service - I am now having a very bad experience - even if you make zero profit or suffer a slight loss on this item, you are now trying to salvage my repeat business, which over time, will be more lucrative than the $3 you made on this item - how about a waiver on the shipping or something - nope - nothing. Even after I mentioned waiving shipping cost. And by nothing, I mean he said NOTHING. How does a store this big not leave someone on duty at the level of at least a shift or assistant manager. i needed to get some short sleeve shirts for my newly acquired sling. So I figured I'd pay visit to my local Penny's store. They always have some kind of a sale and this was the case this time. The shirts were on sale for like, 25% off! the Dockers socks were buy one get one half off, plus we had a 15% off coupon. I am not a fan of the layout of this store. The men's shirt department is in like 5 different places around the first floor. You either have to be a resident expert, or request a guided tour. To make matters worse I couldn't find the clerks around to assist. We were on our own. After lots of wandering and lots of searching, we finally found the department and the shirts we were looking for. The socks were much easier to find as they only have one sock area as opposed to the multiple shirt areas. The store at the time was somewhat crowded but very messy. There was quite a bit of clothing that needed to be folded and put back where it belonged. The were a lot of shirts with the wrong size labels on the hangers. The sock area was very dis-organized as well. So I picked out some shirts and some socks and made my way to the register. Wasn't as bad as it would seem to be but in this reporters opinion they are obviously understaffed. When we did get to the register the clerk was friendly and efficient. He also honored our 15% discount for the coupon. He thanked us, gave us our receipt and said "have a nice day". And we were on our way to our next adventure . read more

I went there in September with a groupon to take pics of my 8 month old, and it went very well. Took us at appointment time, didnt want too long to have the process done. they were very patient with my son (who would not smile), had cute props and sugggestions on how to take pictures. Despite my grouchy son they got some cute shots. Now when I picked up the pictures the worker I got was a tad rude, but maybe she was having a bad day?? Now I went again this past weekend. appointment was at 12, I know its nearing holiday time but I figured I would have to wait a little while... there were 6 people in front of me. They said I could walk around and they would call me when they are ready, 40 min later I went back and there were still 3 people in front of me. By that time it was getting into nap time for my son, he was getting grouchy, his hair was messed up by this time, we figured it would be another 40 min wait, so we just went home. an hour later I got a call telling me they were ready, I didnt even bother. I was very disappointed. I had an appointment time but yet wasnt going to be taken in until an hour and a half later? I was pretty bummed with this last experience. If I could give 0 stars I would. Ordered curtains online and waited for the expected ship date. A few days later, I still had not received an email or notification the curtains had arrived and each time I called I was placed on hold for more than 10 mintues! I finally decided to stop by. I had to wait in line for over 30 minutes to be assisted by the employee. That is RIDICULOUS! There were only 2 people ahead of me, what took so long?! There are clothes and other merchandise all over the floor and tables. It's clear they are understaffed and I feel bad for the employees. Do they not care to staff it properly because it's not in a more affluent area? I used to think it was solely the customers but immediately after leaving the store I went to Kohls at the same mall and everything was nice and tidy. Something needs to be done. It's really quite far for me, but Leticia started cutting, styling and dying my hair in 2016. She is a miracle worker with a straightening iron. She is kind, thoughtful and has mad skills with scissors.she gave me a great dimensional lighter pieces that looks great with beach curls. She made me look beautiful after my partner of 12 years crushed my heart and made me feel terrible. I'd send anyone to her with the highest recommendation, even though the salon's shampoo chairs/sinks need serious improvement. It's worth the trip. read more

Every time I come here the cashiers let me know if there's a coupon I can use. During black friday a cashier double checked the price of an item b/c it marked regular price. I never have a problem here with the store associates. This location has good selection of clothes too. Petite & Misses. Lots of fitting rooms. The men section is ok too. Parking is never a problem. I perfer this location overall. My review is based on the first floor. I hardly never go downstairs to the kids section. read more

Your customer service wasn't great at all! Worse customer service in my life so far. I got some pants for my birthday/Christmas from my sister. They didn't fit so I returned them. Thing is I had removed the tags but I still had them with me. I was going to exchange them but my size wasn't available so I was just going to return them. A girl didn't want to return them cause the tags were off according to "policy" they couldn't help me. I didn't see anywhere on the receipt saying that. So one guy goes up to her and says the tags are there as if they could reattach them themselves I'm sure they could have but the girl had an attitude and didn't want to give us the satisfaction the guy backed off. I'm sure he would've been much better help. Anyways she rejected it and returned everything BUT the tag it needed so I can return them. She kept it. So now I got pants that don't fit me or anyone else in my family. Telling me that we could've switched the pants as if we were thieves. Meanwhile I'm wearing clothes that aren't cheap. Pretty much calling us poor or envied us for some reason I don't know why. Maybe she has problems of her own and took it out on us. I'm not pleased and it was humiliating. I don't know what kind of people you hire here and they won't make your store any better. No wonder it's going to the ground like 2020 maybe 2021 will be better. Love JCP but not this one. In fact, is the WORST one I've been to. I've only been here twice, each time during the noonish hour and just to kill some time when in the area. The location is disorganized and the departments appear to be in disarray. There is a lack of staff and on the only two occasions I've been here, there has been a significant wait time at the registers for such an early part of a WEEKDAY business day (Oy vey). I can only imagine what it's like to shop here on a weekend. The departments are a decent size and they are stuffed with clothes, but the lack of organization makes the idea of shopping and sorting through all of those disorganized racks way too overwhelming. If you are a JCP fan, skip this one. Try the West Covina, or Santa Anita locations instead. read more

Let me start by saying I remember shopping at JC Penney with my mom when I was a kid. It was kind of the go-to store in town as it offered reasonable pricing. Oh, and the catalog was a treat to thumb through. Anyway, as I got older and especially once I was earning my own money, JC Penney just didn't do it for me. It has been MANY years since I've set foot in one. My sis and I were searching for clothing items we could gift her 6' 4" college student son. A co-worker told her Penneys had a tall section. We arrived, truly doubtful we would find anything. Happy to say we were wrong. We hit the jackpot! Not only is my very handsome nephew quite tall and slim, he is also very particular about his clothes so our taste is often at odds with his. We found many shirts and t-shirts, and, miracle of miracles, we found jeans! The prices while not cheap, were not outrageous. We were so pleased with the selection that we picked up more items than we had planned on, but we figured he would return at least half the items. Another miracle, he liked it all! It fit great and looked great on him. Afterwards sis and I were commenting on our shopping experience and both agreed JC Penneys is a store we want to take a second look at for ourselves and the rest of the family. If other departments offer the same level of selection, quality, and pricing, it will be worth adding to our shopping stops. Something else we noticed, display tables and clothes racks were not jam-packed with clothes. The aisles were actually clear of overflowing clothing, and wide enough to comfortably walk through without knocking things over as you pass. Even the checkout process was organized. The staff was pleasant, although could have been a tad friendlier to offer a complete shopping experience. Not long ago, I read where JCP was under new leadership and stores were going through a transformation. If this is the direction they are headed in, I like it! Before I forget, regarding quality, it's not on par with designer labels you'll find at Macy's, but they aren't charging Macy's prices. I would say quality is somewhere between high and mid-level. Came here for some business card portraits and the ladies here were ok. Jenny was really cool and Ashley the photographer was just ok. I came in and took photos with here it seemed very just quick and not too caring. I always imagined professional photography to have some type of passion involved but I guess after snapping so many people you lose it. I looked over my photos and was ok with it, my only complaint is that the photographer didn't tell me a strand of my bangs was apart from the rest of my hair on some of my shots. I would have liked for her to just help me out since I can't see myself through her lens. It could have made a bigger difference. 3 stars because they offered me and promotion package for half the regular price. Jenny was kind of nice too. Two stars knocked for the very mediocre experience and lack of helpfulness while shooting. Would I recommend? If you are going to end up paying their normal higher prices I would say no.
