I went here to look at some shirts. There is a nice sized men's area with a variety of clothing. It took me a little while to find the shirts. There were a variety of shirts with different colors. I was here for a sale. I did find a few white shirts and I chose a few that offered good deals. I saw other areas with some things I may need for the upcoming cold season. They had an ok selection, and the customer service here was generally good. I feel they had ok prices. The place is very dated though. My kid loves the store, I'm not very fond of it. I am really liking the new JCP business model. No need to wait for huge sales or coupons. If you need clothes, they are now reliably the best price at the mall for Levi's, Jones wear, etc. On our latest visit this weekend for last minute school clothes; the store was decluttered, well lit and from what I could tell, a huge improvement. I could see the clothes, and tell the section apart, rather than have to weed through the gawdy clearance junk (don't get me wrong, I love a clearance rack, but before it more like TJ Maxx, than a department store). The clearance this time was cleaner, more clear and though the place was packed, we easily found all we were looking for. Love it! read more

Fairly well stocked and sales are basic retail but good deals most of the time. Customer service is non existent. They have friendly cashiers but only that. No one ever on the sales floor so most sections are destroyed and no one around to help if you need any. It's basically a nicer sears and I fully expect it to go the same way in a couple years. read more

Out of all the years I have been living in the Ann Arbor area, and out of the tiny handful of times that I have gone to Briarwood Mall, it think this might be the first time I was ever in JCPenny longer than to use its doorway to the parking lot to get me to wherever else I was going in the mall. To be honest, long ago I decided I would always park at Sears so that I'd have some familiar surroundings to steer by. The Sears credit card encouraged this. We used the card to rack up points, then I'd redeem them at Sears. Almost the only time I'd go to Briarwood. I'm just not a mall kind of girl. So JCPenny was not on my map of the world. Not since my grade school days when it was the place my grandmother would take me for school clothes. JCPenny has made efforts to attract the younger generation to its cash registers, but their efforts have been totally lost upon me. The other day was my mother's birthday. Instead of lunch at ritzy Gratzi and being whisked off to a salon for a facial and a manicure, my mom had wanted to lunch at Olga's and to shop for sheets at JCPenny. Exciting. We were on the second floor in the housewares section. The situation was oh so familiar: too few people working at the store to be able to offer the customers much help. My mom didn't have much luck after one minute of searching, so she headed to the register because, "...they must have more in the back." How do I explain this? Chances are, every single item is already out on the sales floor. Perhaps if the inventory system is halfway decent, an employee could tell us if other locations had what we wanted. There was one woman at the cash register, and she was so busy with the people in front of her that I told my mom that there was no way that person was going to leave the cash register to show her what she was looking for, if it even was located in this store. Good thing I was there to run all over the floor, finding sheets that matched her description, piling them on a display bed for her inspection. Then she wanted to put them all back. By the time I was done, the store employee was nowhere to be seen. So we went over to Macy's where a kind employee helped us and we got what my mom was after. All for lack of an available employee at JCPenny. No wonder so many retailers are relying on their online stores to stay afloat. It costs too much to staff the store and we've all come to accept self serve as acceptable. read more

I'm a big fan of department stores, mainly because of the wide variety and reasonable prices. I've been to a few JCPenneys, and found this location to be a little more organized than the others. The majority of clothes were in the correct sections, and few were haphazardly on the floor. The service was kind, and independently asked us if we needed assistance finding specific items. I'd recommend checking this store out for branded items at lower prices, instead of opting for branded stores with markups. read more

I ordered a chair online on Black Friday, and I waited around a month to get a call to schedule to order. The order wouldn't arrive till after Christmas, which was irritating considering I ordered it a month in advance. Then, I called to change the delivery address because if it couldn't get delivered before Christmas to be wrapped and put under the tree, I needed it to be delivered at the right address of the person receiving the chair. Then, you guys canceled my order did not notify me that my order was canceled and I had to call to find this out. When I called you said it was canceled and it would be refunded, and that is when I rescheduled the ordered to be delivered at the original address and uncanceled the order. Finally, I was happy that I got it all figured out after the mess you guys created, but it didn't end there. You just called to say that I have to reorder the chair because you didn't put it in the system that it wasn't actually canceled. I'm very unhappy with the service I have received and I am very frustrated with you guys. read more

The Jc Penney in Adrian is just pathetic as far as selection but then again the mall is pathetic. The sales people are really nice but they can't help me find what doesn't exist. I wish Penneys would realize that there are some plus sized women out there who yes wear a size 18 or 20 but I do not need arm holes the size of a small country. I would greatly prefer if you would give me the exact same style that the misses sizes have in a larger size. Don't take away all the details and the styling such as darts and quality stitching. it seems as if they say ahh who cares its for a big lady she doesn't care. Also a larger selection of talls would be great. I often don't even need the plus size if I can get it in a tall because it gives the extra room i need. read more

What a mess. I went today to pick up linens from the catalog desk and had the worst customer service experience ever. I stood in line while the single worker berated a customer for over 10 minutes. The customer had questions about her charge bill, and the employee continuously interrupted her, talked over her, raised her voice, and made incredibly rude remarks. When we finally got to the desk, the employee apologized not for her behavior or the slow service, but rather for the incompetence of the poor woman who endured her yelling previously. She was absolutely loud, impolite, obnoxious, and intrusive in her mannerisms. NEVER AGAIN. I'll have my orders shipped from now on. read more

I can't speak to the whole store, because I haven't actually shopped for or bought anything here. I did, however, have a fantastic experience at the portrait studio. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and they had some great creative ideas for our group. It seemed like they were having just about as much fun as we were! I had the absolute worst experience yesterday, at my local JC Penney's in Ann Arbor, MI. My husband and I have been talking about getting family pictures done for a long time now but never seem to have the money or something comes up. Our children are 12,10, and 5 and we have yet to get a family portrait done. I found a great groupon for JC Penny portrait studio and jumped on it because it was a great deal that we could afford and I'm so ready to have that picture that every mother wants. After purchasing the Groupon, I quickly went online to schedule the appointment as my husband works midnights and I wanted to make sure we got an appointment that works with his work/sleep schedule. We were so excited. I spent 2 weeks gathering everyone's outfits so they matched. yesterday, the day of the appointment (it was for 7:00pm) I spent the day rushing around to make sure everything was perfect. It takes time making sure everything is in line for a family of 5. I talked to a lady from the portrait studio to confirm the appointment and that we would be there. I also gave her the kids ages and discussed some ideas I had for the shoot later this evening. We got there at 7:05 to be exact, I was keeping a close eye on the time all day because we were rushing around and I did not want to be late. We were all so excited walking in, the kids had been talking about it all day. Got to the studio and it was pitch black, not a soul in sight. I figured she was just taking a break and would be back in a few, so we waited. 10 Min went by so my husband went to get someone to help us out. Finally after 15 min of waiting the assistant manager came back there and told us that the photographer was not there anymore. She then proceeded to call her on the phone to tell her that her 7 o'clock appointment was here waiting, why did she leave? The store manager informed us that the studio closes at 7pm and the studio manager told her employee she could leave at exactly 7pm because we were not there EXACTLY AT 7pm after confirming the appointment earlier in the day. We walked in at 7:05!!! I am so upset and angry at the total lack of customer service at this studio location! Why do they allow people to schedule appointments at 7pm if that is the time they close? Why did I not receive a phone call to see if we were coming before the photographer left for the day? Would that have inconvenienced her? Because her leaving before my scheduled and confirmed appointment sure was an inconvenience to my entire family! It is hard getting 3 children ready to have photos done not to mention the pure disappointment of not being able to finally get our family pictures taken. Now I have to do the same thing all over again tomorrow. Shame on you JC Penny for your complete lack of customer service. We will go and get our pictures done tomorrow but will likely never return to your studio again! I have yet to be offered any compensation for my troubles. We shall see later today. So I just received a phone call from the manager of the portrait studio and I'm even further disappointed in JC Penny's customer service. I DID NOT receive an apology nor did I receive an explanation. She didn't even offer any compensation for all my troubles. She called me to argue with me about the time we arrived at the studio. She repeatability stated that I am lying and we were not there before 10 after 7pm. So not only did our "fun" family pictures get ruined, now I am being accused of being a liar. I can not believe we have to go there today and get our pictures taken. It is supposed to be a happy time and I'm already seriously upset at the way I've been treated this early. I am in complete shock at the lack of customer service. I was expecting to receive an apology and a happy photo shoot today and neither of those are going to happen. If I didn't buy a Groupon I would not even go to your studio. I will be writing a ton of reviews so families know what they are getting themselves into by going to JC Penney Portrait studio Ann Arbor, MI. read more

Unbelievable. It was so hot and dirty in the office. Not to mention biting gnats up in your face constantly. The poor employees said the management said there was nothing they could do. On April 15, 2013, at 4:43 PM, I purchased some sport items on the first floor of JC Penney. I noticed the items were on sale so I paid no attention when the clerk, "associate" number 0112, rang the total of $78.44 on transaction umber 4924. I was about to leave the store when I noticed that there was a small size item with coordinated colors on a mannequin. I asked the same clerk if I could exchanged one of my items for the coordinated items on the mannequin. She gave all kinds of excuses as to what it would take to do so, which seemed suspicious to me because I had just gotten the other set from a mannequin and there were no excuses when the previous mannequin was disrobed. At that moment I took my calculator out and added the items I had before me for which I had been charged $78.44. The total came to $43.00.....I pointed this out to clerk # 0112 and she said she was going to void the previous order and start all over (she had been caught in the act of stealing from a customer). She could not explain, however, why she had overcharged me so much. I figured that seeing that I was a senior citizen she figured out I would not notice. Her readiness to call a supervisor made me questioned if the so called supervisor was not in as well on the price scam. Finally, the TOTAL came out to be $45.58 including the sales tax. BUYER BEWARE......THIS STORE HAS SUSPICIOUS BUSINESS PRACTICES THAT ARE UNCHECKED. Apparently, their "new business model" must include cheating the customer. read more
