Not to be confused with JV Peenie, which is both inappropriate and very immature. Located right on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the city of Amherst is this massive department store which is a lot sleepier and more quiet than it used to be. One of the flagship stores in the Boulevard Mall and these days it's a little bit overpriced and out of date, but they are trying to keep up and adapt, and you can still find some good deals here from time to time, although it's not my favourite store. Still, it's probably better than a lot of the other department stores.

This is just ONE SECTION of clearance. And you can't even see the whole section in the photo. SO MANY DEALS just waiting to be discovered!

My 5-star review is in part a plea to PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE ANYMORE DEPARTMENT STORE CHAINS!!! My beloved brick-and-mortar Bon Ton is gone, Sears is on the chopping block, Macy's keeps closing locations. If I lose Penney's too, I would seriously weep. In a lot of ways, I am an old-school shopper. Sure, I order from Amazon and other online retailers, but my preference is to touch and try before I buy. Especially with clothes and shoes. Plus the thrill of roaming the racks, not knowing what I'm looking for, but having that a-ha moment when whatever I was looking for actually finds me--PRICELESS. :-D So, as for this particular Penney's location, it has its pros and cons. As other Yelpers mention, it is pretty packed with merchandise. It's not the most organized store in general. The changing rooms can be cluttered. Some of the styles are less than today's flavor of vogue. But the clerks and managers are typically friendly. And the clearance sections, oh my beloved clearance sections, of which there are soooooo many, are beyond bountiful with truly dope deals to discover. If you are like me and enjoy spending hours trolling for discounts, you'll be in heaven. I have found many nice garments at this Penneys, both casual and for the office, marked way down from $40 or $50 or higher, to seven or eight bucks a piece. Oftentimes even cheaper, when you can stack coupons and/or rewards on top of the clearance prices. Word to the wise--leave your husband at home. Mine considers holding my purse at Penneys while I shop to be a retro form of torture that he should only be subjected to in the underworld. Break free, spend some hours finding super steals, and help keep these department store dinosaurs open for a few more years before we all run out of places to shop and eventually have to walk around naked. :-P

Not a bad location. It's not the biggest or most organized store, but it's got a decent selection. I think they need to work on getting rid of their old stock a big better and not cram so much on their floor, as it's hard to maneuver through the aisles. Went her on Thanksgiving and they were understaffed at the cash registers, causing long lines.

    Ginsu knife set, awesome right?

This trendy label appeals to the younger, fashion-conscious, crowd. And then scattered throughout the store, especially in the back, there are styles that look a bit dated and ordinary. There are some high-price designer items as well. I think their jewelry section is rather blah. I've never bought jewelry from them. All sorts of used handbags and practically new shoes. Both my teenage daughter and I have bought clothes from here. Something for everyone. What I like about consigning my gently used clothes with this business is that they itemize the clothing that you give them. When the consignment period is over in 3 months, you know exactly which item sold and how much money you will get for it. Unlike another consignment store in the area that just gives you a number for your items and never tells you exactly what sold. Becomes a mystery. And then you have to hunt all over the place to find your items that didn't sell if you want them back. But here, I ask for items that don't sell back and they keep them for me to pick up within a window of time. They take appointments on their website for consigning your things the first few days of the month only. It's very organized and I appreciate that. They may not take many of the items you hope to consign. But at least they're honest and organized.

I don't normally consider myself a thrifter, but I found this store well-organized by style and size and a mix of trendy and classic selections. The staff is very friendly and helpful! The price tags are different colors and the staff, and signs all over the store will tell you which color tags are on sale and what percentage off. The staff can also help you find things, or find similar items if you like something that doesn't fit. They have ample, clean fitting rooms. They will let you know if something looks good on ya! They have a reward program and I don't remember the exact details but I think it's 1 point per dollar spent and at some number of rewards points you get $5 or $10 off. The Williamsville location only carries ladies clothing but the Elmwood location has some men's selections. I think the only thing I didn't like was when I find something I love but it's not in my size, but the bright side is you can go home and try to find it by searching online. After my visit here, I left with 2 items and hunted down 2 other items I loved but were the wrong size online. It's also a fun place to experiment with styles you may not usually wear. Consignment is by appt only so go to their website to set up a date and time for them to go through your items. There is no pressure to buy and it's a very comfortable shopping environment (I took forever in there to be honest). So come have a look! You never know what you may find.

This time, I was looking for Sabres playoff clothing and gear. Don't get me wrong, they have all Buffalo based teams and lots of local Buffalo stuff. I settled on some Sabres earrings and a sweatshirt for some gifts as well as a hoodie for myself. The pricing here is affordable, unlike some of their competitors. If you're looking for something local and Buffalo themed, stop in, there's plenty of options that won't break the bank.

I really appreciated the variety in addition to the fact the store is pretty much set up like a holiday market with various vendors creating gifts/products and the store selling them. I stopped in to check the store out and do some browsing but did not make any purchases and was not greeted or helped by any of the employees so I cannot speak to the service too much. In terms of value, I thought the majority of the prices were reasonable and the DIY/homemade component of many of the products just improved the value! I love the selection, the sizing system, The sales ..Really great. BUT The customer service... ugh. It's like that scene out of pretty woman when Julia Robert's walks in and they ignore her. Years ago I think they were the same three or four sales ladies in there. One of them was friendly the others not so much. If you weren't dressed to the nines, they would ignore you whether you could afford the clothing or not. He got to the point where I used to go out of my way and drive to the Orchard Park location because they were much friendlier. A few days ago there was a particular item that I was looking for and purchased online and needed to go to the store to pick up since there is no longer in Orchard Park store I went to the one in Williamsville, the only one in our area. Upon entering, there were two sales people in the store, no customers. One of the sales people was in the corner of the store far for me and the lady who was working at the counter didn't even look back, but said a very disinterested hello. I did find a few items to try on and had them in my arms. She barely acknowledged and just said again under her breath into herself the dressing room rooms are unlocked. The other lady came over. Asked my name wrote my name on the door and helped me into the dressing room. That's more like the customer service that I am used to there. At that time I asked about my order online. The first woman, the unfriendly one, said we don't have any order and I said well I ordered it online and got a confirmation. She said that that's impossible. We don't have anything . The friendly sales lady asked me what the item was. I told her and the unfriendly sales person said oh there is one of those in the back. Let me bring it out of course that was my shirt, but apparently she goes online lags quite far behind the sale hadn't gone through yet. More on that later. I went to check out the unfriendly lady never made eye contact with me, continued her work and basically seem to be telling the other lady what to do and how to do it, even though I know the other sales woman has worked there for many many years. They both have I made my purchase and left the store and I won't be back. I even put an item on hold thinking I would go back the next day and purchase it, but I was thinking why would I subject myself to unfriendly sales people. I went home and ordered a T-shirt I initially wanted and had it mailed to my house. The order took immediately. Then two days after that I got an email from Chico online saying my initial order was available at the store. Looks like I will have to go back to cancel the order anyway. I can hardly wait. These women need a lesson in putting the customer and customer service. The one lady behind the counter who I am, assuming is the Manager has an attitude that is horrible. No eye contact, not friendly, and I would like to say she was having an off day, but as I said before, she has worked there for years and it has always been this way. The other women that used to work at that store had the same attitude. I'll just stick to buying online. I only gave two stars because of the merchandise.

The next morning, less than 24 hours after the initial purchase, I attempt to return the dress and the owner said, "I can't believe you would ask to return this." I was a new customer and was not told the store policy at the time of purchase. Essentially, I was punished for shopping there. I faced a hardship because I did not look and read every single thing on her cluttered counter. I could understand refusing the return had the dress been worn, or if the return date was lengthy, but she refused to return my money because there was nothing else in the store worth purchasing. The most challenging part was the owner's deplorable attitude. She only cared about how the purchase impacted her, not me. Had she returned this item, I would have been likely to patronize her business in the future, now, all I will do is avoid it and warn others to be 100% certain of their purchase.
