The work was completed, but the overall experience was very disappointing. We had agreed on an hourly rate, but the final invoice included nearly $300 for a few electrical boxes and wires, without any itemized breakdown when I asked for one. The workmanship was not of a high standard. Dust and debris were left behind, and there was some damage left after the job. In addition, the contractor suggested an alternative solution that was supposed to save me time and money. I agreed to try this option and accepted the related hourly charges, including the time for the Home Depot trips (almost an extra hour). However, the solution did not work for my needs, and we had to revert to the original plan that I hired them for in the first place, meaning extra time and cost without any real benefit. My main concern, and the reason for the confrontation, was the nearly $300 in material costs. I repeatedly asked for a breakdown of these charges, which I think is a very reasonable request, but was told that their policy is to lump all materials into a single line item without detail. While I understand the intent to keep things simple, I don't believe this approach is truly transparent, especially when the materials included only a few electrical boxes, wires, and fixtures. I made several attempts to resolve the disagreement on good terms, and even mentioned that I would prefer to settle the matter without needing to leave a negative review as an honest effort to close things fairly and avoid escalation. I was surprised to later be accused of being abusive or threatening, as nothing in my messages reflected that. Instead, I was eventually met with late fee demands and the threat of legal action, including filing a mechanic's lien against my property, over just a few hundred dollars. For such a small disputed amount, I was surprised the situation escalated this far and so quickly (not even 24 hours after the work was completed) instead of being resolved with a simple conversation. In fairness, they did reduce the billed labor hours and applied a small discount there, which I appreciated. However, the larger disagreement about material costs remained unresolved. Combined with the lack of clarity, the poor cleanup, and the escalation to legal threats, the overall experience was still stressful. In the end, I paid the full invoice to close the matter, but I would caution others to ensure all terms, hourly rates, and especially material costs are documented clearly in advance before working with them. read more

James and his crew installed a new panel at my home. The workers left trash in my yard (box cutter blade and plastic water bottle). I had asked for a hook up for an EV charger which was included in the original bid. When the panel installation was done, James asked for more money for the charger, forgetting that it was in the original bid! I had it still in text messages, but decided to fore go this, since I had a BAD feeling about this contractor. My power company had him on their blacklist because he kept disconnecting and reconnecting my power without notifying them. I also had to be there to walk the inspectors through inspection, since James said I could do it myself. (WTH?!) Dont use these guys! read more

Initially all was well. They came out quickly same day we called and fixed a broken breaker in our circuit box. But the next day our AC system wasn't working. We texted them several times but they never got back to us or responded. We had to hire a second company to come out and they found a loose ground wire that had not been connected to the breaker they had replaced. The owner, James responded so quick to my yelp request and offered to come to my house that evening to give me an estimate. I asked how soon he could install since I was in a panic since my car came in way sooner than I anticipated. He had a big job he was doing the next day but offered to have his employee come out at 6 am then next day. WOW! It's not like my job was a huge one but for him to offer this made me so appreciative. The gfci blew out in the garage when there was a power outage earlier in the week, it actually blew out the outlet itself. The breaker was not flipped and resetting the outlet got no response. I selected JCM Electric for my electrical repair because of the Yelp rating. The rating was correct. They were very easy to work with. When I contacted them for their availability, they responded right away and were able to come the next day. We had a problem with our recessed lights and dimming switch in our dining room. After blowing up one of the replacement bulbs, only two of the four lights were working and the dimmer feature stopped working. Eric came out to take a look. He was great and explained everything. He was able to diagnose the issue quickly and determined we needed a new dimmer switch. Luckily we had a new dimmer switch on hand. The diagnosis and repair took about an hour.
