Hair stylist themselves were very kind people. But I had to go to the hair salon three times in a row to try and get my hair fixed after asking for a balayage. By the third time I called because I was still not satisfied with what my hair looked like and the manager was rude about it, but I was able to get my money back. Now I am left with trying to bring my hair back to health since it is now very damaged. read more

Not terribly fond of getting my haircut, I decided to give this place a try after hearing good things from friends. I called ahead of time to see if I needed to make an appointment or if walk-ins were accepted. The girl on the phone was very nice & said to just come in anytime while they're open. (They close at 9pm which is convenient for me!) Once there, I had to wait, probably a total of 30 seconds (if that) before a stylist was available. Not bad! She asked me specifically what I wanted done and got straight to work, keeping small-talk to a minimum (which I am more than okay with!) I could tell she was very focused and intent on details which I appreciate. When finished, she asked me if it was short enough. It looked good so I said yes. She then said if it turns out that I need it shorter, to just come back. She thanked me for coming in and I headed back to the front desk. Quick, concise, polite. That's all I needed! read more

Okay for kids haircut BUT just for basic clean straight blunt cut. Don't go here for color or cut that is "instagram-able" or expect to walk out happy. We had a simple highlights done for my daughter after she got a basic haircut since hers was growing out and it came out awful-awful-awful, had them corrected it and still awful. Go somewhere else and spend a little bit more money to get excellent results. I've seen other people get color here while ours was done and same awful results. I think some of the people that works here need more hair training. Other than that they are pleasant and friendly. Salon products here are great to get when they have a sale. read more

I went in and scheduled a same day appointment. The salon was not super busy and I believe there were like 3 stylist total. They did not have a problem scheduling my appointment and the receptionist was very friendly. I came back after eating in the mall, and was told that my stylist would be with me in a minute. I saw someone but she basically ignored me for like 10 minutes or so. After that ten minutes, she came up and said I would have to wait for another stylist to get off lunch because she was taking hers. She said about 20 minute wait for the other stylist, which was in total 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. The receptionist said the stylists had all taken their lunches at the same time, leaving me to wait. I chose to cancel and am very disappointed as I had been recommended by a friend who had a pretty good experience before. read more

I may be mistaken by thinking that Nordstrom pulling out would help the business of JC Penney in general. Upon visiting last night, it is very obvious that there is no proof of this place stepping up to that plate. JCP Salon used to be my go to place for hair products. BUT. The inventory selection has taken a serious slide and the prices have gone up. Sure, they still have the buy 2 get one free mix and match sale on occasion, but the ole taking care of the customer bonus has gone bye bye. Is JCP still a department store? I really don't know. GET THIS: There is a charge for a bag now, in the salon. WHAT. C'mon now people. Isn't it bad enough that we've got to deal with that in the grocery store? It's like JCP salon is telling you to hit the road Jack. Fine with me. I can get my shampoo at Fred Meyer now, at the SAME price. And I don't have to drive downtown and be hassled looking for a parking space. read more

I have a medical condition and she has brought my hair back from the dead....I come to the salon weekly and she is nothing but professional and extremely knowledgeable about products, styling, and customer care. It was my good fortune the day I walked into JCP Salon in Anchorage and Chanta Bullock had an opening. Since that day in September 2014, I have had more compliments on my hair than I ever imagined possible. I travel extensively and folks from Anchorage, to Atlanta, to Italy to the US Virgin Islands have commented - including random strangers! More importantly, I always feel that Chanta listens to my stated needs and then delivers - without exception. She is a highly skilled stylist, is passionate about pleasing her clients , has a great sense of humor and is a good person! I am so sad to say that the person I normally go to here has left. Talk about awesome.Nuigel( AKA Gina) was my go to Stylist here. I have also been lucky enough to have Audrey who was also awesome. This time I was here on a Sunday and with Gina gone, and Audrey does not work on Sunday. So OK I will try Alex. My appt. was at 4:00 however, she couldn't see me till 5:30 because, she was still with a client that she had all day. I understand things like that. These things happen, but why did someone not call to tell me first? So Alex is ready to see me at 5:35, lovely. I am getting my hair colored and a deep conditioning treatment. I color my hair black, and she is not putting any protect-ant on my skin. I have to ask her if she is going to. She huffs about it and comes back with something, I said I can do it if you want?? No response. Oh ooo, this will not be good. When it is all over she asks if I want my hair blow dried, yes please, it is Alaska and it is cold outside, plus I have been here for over 3 hours. I would like my hair dried. While blow drying it she keeps getting it tangled and is almost ripping it out from the roots. Then I remember that I did not see her put any product on my hair. My hair is quite long and they always put product of some type in your hair. So I ask, "Did you put any product in my hair?" Response," No, I forgot". Then she puts it in. Santa Lucia,it is a miracle. My hair is not tangling and it is drying like glass. Finally she tells me it is done, But I have to show her that one entire section is still wet. Alas, she fixed it. I can hardly wait to get out of their. By now it is really cold and really dark on the streets of Anchorage.I just want to get back to my hotel. A few days later I notice that she has missed the entire back of my hair. Near the hair line. I do not know if it was an accident(because, she seemed to not really know how to do it). Or was it on purpose.? For $75.00 plus tip I expect a little more. Oh well, live and learn. I hope I can see Audrey next time I go. I diffidently would not see Alex again. The good thing is you can put it on your Penneys card and you get Points as well. read more

I absolutely love the Pennys salon. I am always greeted with a warm smile and they have coffee on hand which is GREAT. My mom has been seeing Yun since the early 80's and I have been seeing her since I was born. Yun is a MAGICIAN with hair! I promise! She is well conversed and really knows exactly what I need every time. Now all I do is walk in and say "Surprise me" and she always does a fantastic job! All of the stylists are very kind (those that I have met anyway) and I'm always excited for my next appointment. read more

I have never been to the Jcpenny salon before but figured I'd try it, also so I could use my Jcpenny credit card here. So I booked it with the designer Taylor, she's worked there for 5 years and is sooo amazing! I have DARK brown hair and I wanted blonde highlights and a a line cut she got me to exactly what I wanted but better! She was super nice and I am for sure going back to her! And got it all done for $90!!! read more

If I could give zero stars I would! Poor service and the worst haircut I've ever had! See the video above... all I wanted was a trim if the ends (I have/had long hair to my belt) and it now doesn't go past my upper chest!!!!! I am horrified and can't even contact a manager as they keep telling me that there is no manager in! Also they charged me 45 bucks when I asked for just an $18 trim! read more

I mainly go here because it's close by, and they usually accept walk ins. However, during each of my visits, I've only experienced a 'don't really care' attitude by staff and the hairdressers. I honestly wonder if I've done something to offend them sometimes. There is no lack of skill here, but it's weird to go to a place with such a strange attitude. I'm chalking it up to discontented workers, but at the price I paid for a stylist I expected much better. read more

Chante Bullock has been my stylist at J C Penny now for two years. I will not let anyone else cut or color my hair except Chante! She is a fabulous stylist who knows hair and color.
