Veggie pizza from Ames Pizzeria in Orleans
    David B.

Visited Ames Pizzeria on a tip from friends tonight before heading over to the Cape League game in Orleans. We ordered a large vegetable pizza which was loaded with the appropriate amount of fresh toppings, nice crisp crust, tasty sauce and quality cheese. From ordering to being handed our pie it was a great experience and certainly a pizzeria we will frequent when coming to Orleans.

    Yeah!!!

We only had a few slices of pepperoni but I'll say it's the best I've had on the Cape in a long time.

Excellent food and Service…read more It is very busy so get there early going back soon can't wait

According to RESY it was full until 9:00 on this Thursday in summer and that's late for me. And…read morebesides, the system didn't want to process a reservation for 1. But I stopped by midday and inquired, learning that about half the tables are first-come first-served and if I arrived around 5:15 I'd get in with no wait. A bit early but that's what I did. By 5:45 it was completely full and I heard the hostess telling arrivers of 60 minute waits. Very popular! And for good reason. La Bella Vita was as close to perfect as I've seen in some time. The hostess did some quick checking and soon found me a high top table for 4 in the semi-enclosed patio (wood stud walls, metal roof, plexiglass panels keeping out the chilly wind). There are a lot of different spaces here: the patio where I sat, the outdoor garden, or the main dining room with its table seating, the bar, and a counter and stools along a wall. So if you plan ahead and make a reservation you can have your pick. My waitress arrived soon after I was seated, brought water in a pitcher and offered bread which I appreciated. Free bread is getting less common these days unfortunately, and it was good: soft warm Italian with an herbed crust, and a bottle of olive oil and jar of grated Parmesan on the table. My drinks for the evening were one of their specials, Grapefruit Gimlet. Which I suppose is a gimlet made with grapefruit juice instead of - or in addition to - lime? It had just a hint of sweetness, good flavor, icy cold, beautiful pink color, was served in an attractive glass, and strong. My appetizer was arancini: a generous portion of 3 with a nice crunchy outside, served over plenty of good red sauce and covered with coarsely grated cheese and green parsley. The interior could have been firmer - the risotto may have been a little overcooked - but overall quite good. The highlight was without a doubt the main entree: Pork Osso Buco. It must have been a special because I don't see it on the menu now. A spectacular presentation, and enormous! The pork shank standing vertically in the center of the plate atop the mashed sweet potatoes, surrounded by a huge portion of roasted brussels sprouts. The meat was heavily herb-crusted and tender. The brussels sprouts, carefully sliced into halves, were well-browned and had just a pleasant hint of bitterness, and the sweet potato mash was a more interesting choice than the common white potatoes. They don't skimp on portion sizes here, the meat or the vegetables. I ate plenty that evening and took home enough for a large lunch the next day. My waitress was flawless. She checked on me as needed, asking how things were, knew all the answers to my several questions about the food and drinks, had good recommendations, and made me feel welcome and at home. Dessert was the Spumoni Bomba: chocolate, pistachio, and strawberry gelato inside a hard chocolate shell, served with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Also excellent, all 3 gelatos having great flavor, the shell pleasingly crunchy and chocolatey. The whipped cream was an unnecessary addition and was slightly melty. A minor flaw for a very good dessert, and like the appetizer and entree, a size that was more than adequate. Desserts are not made in house but came from "a bakery in Boston" I was told. Even the espresso was perfect. Definitely a place to return to. There's a large menu including many of the Italian standards - pastas, meat, poultry, and seafood entrees, and pizzas. Plenty of things to choose from. They don't make the pasta in house but I'll forgive them for that.

Not dog friendly anymore…read more We've come here a bunch of times with our dog and would be able to sit outside and have a few drinks. We always had a pleasant experience and respected the rules of the brewery to stay outside with our dog. Yesterday, we came by around 3 p.m. and it was relatively quiet with lots of empty seating outside. When we went to sit at a table, a waitress told us they had a designated dog area to the side at two broken tables in the sun and that we could not sit at any of the shaded tables. She also told us we could not order food with our dog there. We asked if we could move an umbrella over so we wouldn't have to sit in the sun--the waitress said she would ask and then never came back. When we realized no one was going to help, we asked a second time and were told there was no way to give us shade, so we left. It was disappointing as we liked coming here but it felt like they were deliberately trying to make dog owners uncomfortable and unwelcome. I'd recommend going elsewhere if you are looking for a relaxing afternoon at a brewery.

I'm surprised by myself for not having written a review about Laurino's Tavern yet. I started…read morecoming here about 35-40 years ago. I'm not sure these days who know how the name Laurinos came to be... a Laural and a Mario came together and started the restaurant that is just up the street from Nickerson State Park on 6A. I graduared Nauset Regional High School with one of the second generation and this was well before the bar became the bar it is today. Until then it was just the window in the back of the kitchen. I went with my mom to pick up pizza so I could play the Space Invaders or Asteroid games. At any rate, Laurino's is a lower Cape mainstay Italian restaurant and bar. So... let me put out there that I am biased. Laurino's formed many of my childhood expectations on things like pizza and grinders (not subs, hogies or sandwiches). Their sausage and mushroom grinder is my favorite.... then any pizza. I want to try the Big Mac someday. Today, pepperoni. If I lived closer I'd get satisfied with these and be able to move on to their true calling, Italian entries... especially ones with seafood. BTW, always have a stuffed quohog to get things rolling. The bar is so comfortable, you can spend hours and hours here. I have... we used to call it, "going up the hill." Service, pricing and quality are at a superior level.... always. Again, I'm biased. When someone asks me where my local bar is, it's here. Just have to say I'm ashamed ar those who posted sub 5 stars... sub 4... sub 3... who are you? Probably a washashore from somewhere off Cape... NY? NJ? Quebec? Lol.

Disappointing! Took 30 minutes to get a water & soda. Ordered an appetizer (cherrystone size…read morestuffed quahog) with our meal and it came out AFTER the pizza. Never offered a soda refill, though glass was empty halfway thru the meal. Roast beef grinder was sparse, to the point of having to open the roll to see what was in it. *The Big Mac pizza was very good, the only thing that we would recommend from this visit, but it was $30. Waitress never checked back with us. Had to ask twice for a leftover box, which we packaged ourselves. Then waited and had to ask for the bill. We were given two bills with no explanation until asked - one cash amount, one credit card amount. Again she disappeared and had to be tracked down in the kitchen to be given the cash. I left a tip, which I regretted once I walked out. Tipping is based on service, which I can't say I got. Could have said something, but I would've had to find her first
