Area bakeries provide a variety of baked goods, most of which are gluten-free, even some are dairy-free. I also had the peanut butter fudge, which is literally an amuse-bouche (1-bite). The place is so much roomier than I anticipated and they have plenty of seating available inside. Outside there's a picnic table if that suits you, but we chose to sit inside. They have quite a few food items and snacks available with some sugar free and keto friendly options. We ordered two cappuccinos and the serving size for a medium coffee was very generous. We sat for quite some time, enjoyed our coffee, and chatted comfortably. There's plenty of room for groups or individuals to gather. I regret that this was our first time frequenting 33 & Elm, but it definitely won't be the last!

When I walked in mid morning on Saturday, you could hear a pin drop. There's no background music or noise, just silence. I made my way to the counter (the girl working the register was super nice) and asked for a recommendation on their specialty menu where they said they hadn't tried the drink I wanted to order. I ordered it anyways and while waiting for them to make it, I could hear the two girls working talking about how they were unsure on how to make my drink (remember it was completely silent so anything they were saying I could hear). When they brought me my coffee it looked like milk. I took it to go and once in my car, I took a sip and yep, sugar milk. I'm not even positive they put an ounce of coffee in there at all. Needless to say they, in fact, did not know how to make my drink. I took a couple of sips, gave up, and threw it away. With The Mad Bean, who has outstanding coffee, being directly across the street from The Parlor, I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon. Hopefully the staff can get some training on how to make their coffee drinks.

Finally, another barista came to the window with my drink and said they were "just waiting on the pastry." At this point I'm thinking...are they back there milling the flour and rolling the dough themselves? Five more minutes go by. She finally hands me the pastry...still in the container from whatever bakery actually made it. And it's cold. So basically all they had to do was grab it off a shelf and hand it to me. By the time I drove away, most of the ice in my coffee had already melted. Even watered down, though, it was just...bland. The coffee itself wasn't robust at all, and I couldn't really taste the coconut flavor that was supposed to be the specialty of the drink. The bearded guy who took my order never came back, either. Maybe he got pulled away, maybe he didn't, but it honestly felt like he just couldn't be bothered finishing my order. The whole experience was just disappointing. The flavors, the customer service, and a 15-minute wait for an iced coffee and a grab-and-go pastry when the place wasn't even busy? Hard pass. I drive all the way from Gibsonville to Mebane now just to get coffee from The Habit, and it's worth every extra minute. Better atmosphere, friendlier service, and honestly...just way better coffee.
