The coffee and barista drinks are really good here. Previously I had ordered food and it too was excellent. If you are in the area I recommend dropping by for a coffee, pastry, a sandwich, or a salad!

Arrived in a state of zombieness and ordered a cup of Mad Bean's Secret Society coffee and some breakfast. Great scrambled eggs and breakfast wrap. Left far more awake with a happy belly. Definitely a gem in downtown Madison.

Such a lovely coffee shop. I wasn't expecting the opportunity to shop as well. All the local vendors were so much fun to look at. I ordered a large, iced, butterscotch latte. They have the amazing small crunchy ice! It wasn't as sweet as I prefer but it was still good. What sold me over all was the ambiance and design of the shop. It was super cute and cozy.

Great coffee house that serves fantastic sandwiches, soups (fall & winter) and salads (summer). I'm not a coffee drinker, but they have great southern sweet tea with real sugar. Frappes, smoothies and of course all types of hot and cold coffees and teas.

First time here. Loooved the chicken salad wrap. I love one with grapes and pickles. Good flavor. If you hate onions maybe don't get it but if you like them go for it. My friend got the pimento cheese quesadilla and it was very good. Both served with chips. Prices are great. Didn't get the coffee but also looked good. They also had canned goods and paper goods to sell... maybe because of the Covid times? Will def come back when visiting my friend! Hidden gem that seems out of place here. Would imagine this place in Winston, Durham, or Asheville.

We stopped in before the Madison/Mayodan parade and we were super impressed with this coffee chop. Even amidst the parade crowd, we got our order in a timely fashion - no fuss. The girl working the register was also super friendly which we appreciate. The Christmas cookie latte was right up my alley. Gingerbread, cookie butter, and vanilla cold foam were the flavor profiles and you still get the bitter bite from a bold coffee. I'm more of a bold coffee drinker than a "more milk than coffee" person so this coffee was delicious. I'll certainly be back to try more! read more

Just recently moved out to Stokesdale trying new places around our area. Seen this coffee shop looked like a great place I could work for a few hours. The staff was very friendly. They had plenty of seating available with. The walls were filled with art and lil homemade stuff you can purchase. Large glass store front with ample light coming in. Coffee was great the Cary many varieties on there menu. I will definitely be back to try more item on there menu and update this review! read more

The cutest local coffee shop! I stopped in for a quick lunch between Martinsville and the airport and was so pleasantly surprised. The staff were incredibly friendly, the shop was adorable, and the food was delicious. Homemade food, great coffee, and wonderful people--an unexpectedly great experience. The last time I visited was over 2 years ago. At that time, I invited my bridal party to meet there for lunch. We had a great time and wonderful food & drinks! My mom and I were back in the area last month and remembered how much we enjoyed it, so we stopped back in. We had no idea they had closed down their kitchen. It's only a coffee shop now that also introduced some cute trinkets, gem stones, stickers, etc for sale. I love the vibe. It's definitely still worth stopping in & their staff is great, but soooo disappointing they don't have food anymore. read more

Madbean is hands down my favorite coffee shop. I genuinely think their coffee tastes better than any big chain -- and it's not just the drinks. The warm atmosphere, kind staff, and customizable options make every visit special. They also have the best refreshers, fully approved by my fiancé, who doesn't usually like coffee. It's the first spot we both enjoy together! Even if you're not local, it's worth the drive. Their coffee is the perfect pick-me-up to energize your day. read more

What a cool little coffee shop that has various local goods for sale. Very artisanal and unique. Some honey based soaps and lotions, jewelry, books, slingshots, native American trinkets. Nice vibe inside. We opted to have hot cocoa and it was very good. read more

Small case of pastries and baked goods to choose from but they changed their menu when they renovated. The new design and floor plan is very nice but no more hot food items, sammies or wraps. Went a few weeks ago for lunch with an out of town friend. The atmosphere was amazing and staff was super friendly. I can't comment on the food as they were out of 90% of stuff on their menu. Smoothie was good. I left hungry and went to McDonald's. read more

Continues to deliver fantastic coffee. I also had a tomato/ basil pesto quesadilla recently that was very well prepared. As always, I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. I only wish they'd consider opening 1/2 an hour earlier to accommodate locals that have to be at work before 8am. read more

Not impressed. $40 for 3 sandwiches and sweet teas? Gimme a break. Second time there, will not be going back. Cute place, sure wish Madison had a better place than this! No rye bread for the Ruben? Unacceptable! Had to settle for 3 slices of roast beef, a leaf of lettuce , and 4 chunks of a tomato on chibata bread. Ugh. God only knows what the sandwich prices were because the price is blacked out next to the sandwich description! Is it $3 or $18! Who knows. My guess is $18. Bye bye Bean. read more

Very impressed. I love the building and the decor is absolutely adorable. Good coffee, free wifi, fun vibe, interesting menu. We just stopped in for coffee this morning but we'll be back for lunch sometime. This is in a good "old downtown" shopping area with lots of neat ecletic little shops. This was my first visit to The Mad Bean. I was in this small town for a meeting. And was in desperate need of a cup of coffee and hopefully a pastry. The inside is absolutely precious. The coffee not so much. I asked for a dark brew and was told that the pot had just been made and refills were free. There was a large chocolate chip cookie wrapped in plastic wrap, and I chose that. This was a take along order. The female server was confused by my phone payment and said that the internet was having problems. I handed her my physical metal card and she didn't know how to use it. We settled for a normal bank card. I can understand all of these issues. Got in my car and drove away. Everything I ordered was unedible. The coffee was like drinking colored water and the cookie was so stale and hard that it crumbled when I broke it. Everything went into the trash. I don't know if I'll be returning to this town again. But if I do ... I won't return to The Mad Bean. read more

Madison finally has an awesome coffee house, not only is it the only show in town, it is genuinely one of the better coffee shops you will find. The owners are extremely friendly, the coffee is delicious, they also have a nice selection of local brews. This place makes a concerted effort at exposing local musicians to the populace as well, the live music usually has real quality to it. I am so happy to have a place like this, not just in Rockingham County, but in Madison. Great job! read more

I'll start by saying the service up front was great! However the kitchen was awful! The food was wrong, 2 times, and was terrible. The salsa and sour cream that was supposed to come with our nachos came 10 minutes after the nachos, we never got the jalapeños, and the salsa served to us was rancid. When the cook did bring out our meal replacements, she slammed them on the table and walked away with no apology whatsoever. The front staff lady was very attentive and tried her best to make things right. However, I would not recommend eating the food here. read more

Let me start off by saying that I'm not from NC. There aren't a lot of breakfast/coffee shops in Madison - atleast from what I gather. It's unfortunate that there weren't more people - however, if you're ever wary to stop in - DO IT!!! It's adorable, cozy, warm - I went on a rainy day and I honestly didn't want to leave. I ordered coffees (which were better than any Starbucks I've been) - they unfortunately only have only one type though - still great. I had pancakes and an omelet - pancakes were alright - the omelet was YUMMMYY !!! Different than anything I tried in NJ/NY. They also have live/local musicians play on certain nights - I will definitely stop by to hear some music before I head out of town. But GOOOO GOOOO GOOO to the Mad Bean! read more

Boy, this place is rough. I came for some lunch with a few friends and while we were eating the waitress kept going over to the bathroom to scream at her kid. Her kid just kept screaming back, and the situation just did not get any better. We ate as fast as we could to hurry on out of there, and we definitely won't be back! read more

I am very excited to have a good coffee house by me here. To start off this review lets go with the positives. First the coffee it self is great. I had a macchiato where the coffee was pronounced but not over bearing and not to darkly roasted and very caffinated. The staff ,a husband and wife team, are very friendly. The bulding it's self is an old place with lots of creeks but that is just part of it's charm. It has lots of nice comfy seating to spend some time reading a book. They also say they have live music every weekend but as I haven't seen it i am not really factoring that in my current rateing. Now for why only 3 stars at this point. Currently the selection of drink choices are limited, basicly cappuccino, macchiato, and coffee. Teas are just biglow bags and not much for food choices. Also the big deduction for me is the wait time is a bit excessive currently. For 3 drinks it took almost 10 min with no one ahead of us. If they can get that speed up some, as I am sure they will with experience, then I will gladly up my score. read more

When I walked in mid morning on Saturday, you could hear a pin drop. There's no background music or noise, just silence. I made my way to the counter (the girl working the register was super nice) and asked for a recommendation on their specialty menu where they said they hadn't tried the drink I wanted to order. I ordered it anyways and while waiting for them to make it, I could hear the two girls working talking about how they were unsure on how to make my drink (remember it was completely silent so anything they were saying I could hear). When they brought me my coffee it looked like milk. I took it to go and once in my car, I took a sip and yep, sugar milk. I'm not even positive they put an ounce of coffee in there at all. Needless to say they, in fact, did not know how to make my drink. I took a couple of sips, gave up, and threw it away. With The Mad Bean, who has outstanding coffee, being directly across the street from The Parlor, I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon. Hopefully the staff can get some training on how to make their coffee drinks.

Mad Bean is like an oasis! I'm glad to see a coffee shop instead of another antique store in town. I like antiques, but I also like a great place to sit and drink my iced latte. The building is over a hundred years old, which I think is charming. It is tastefully decorated with unique pieces. Whether you sit on the sofa near the front of the place to play a game of cards or you're sipping on a glass of wine at the bar in the back you are sure to feel welcome. The folks that run the place are truly genuine! The menu is about coffee and coffee drinks. If you don't see it listed they can make it. Want to make your own twisted drink ... they will be glad to oblige! A gracious plenty of different kinds of smoothies are available as well as craft beer and local wine. They also have a small selection of goodies such as muffins, bagels, cookies, cupcakes, brownies, chips, etc. I think it is amazing how they blended the past with the present! I stopped into The Mad Bean on a whim, and now I'm mad at myself for not finding it sooner. The place has this warm, lived‑in charm--like the kind of café where the baristas actually remember you and the drinks taste like someone cared while making them. I ordered a latte and a breakfast sandwich, and both were way better than I expected. The latte was smooth with zero bitterness, and the sandwich tasted fresh, not like something pulled from a freezer. You can tell they put thought into their ingredients. What really sold me, though, was the atmosphere. It's cozy without feeling cramped, and everyone working there was genuinely friendly. Not the forced "corporate nice," but real people who seem to enjoy being there. Definitely coming back. This place deserves more love. read more

This coffee shop is really neat! I love the decor, the owners are friendly and accommodating and the teas and coffees are quality. They aim to please. It is comfortable. While I will likely not go at night to see their live music, I would imagine it to be very inviting.. I watched this business go in and I was very excited to try. Love the pastries and muffins. It was my favorite place to go all throughout high school and is still my favorite place today!
