Power was out at home thanks to rolling blackouts, so needed a place for a hot meal on a cold Christmas Eve morning. I'd been following them on Facebook, and saw that they were open. I drove down, seeing that not much else was going on in downtown Reidsville, but a few cars outside the cafe. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately and informed that a booth had a wait, or I could opt for the counter, which I chose. I was presented with a menu and ordered a hot cocoa to sip on. I decided on the Carolina Sampler, as it was my first visit, I was hungry, and I didn't know when the power would be back on at home. Breaking it down by item..the scrambled eggs were the softest I've probably ever had cooked on a flattop, the bacon was crispy, the way I like it, the sausage patty was decent, but not otherworldly, the ham was a bit on the salty side, but better than too sweet. The hashbrowns were good, but I forgot to order extra crispy (been a while since I was out for breakfast). The grits, sawmill gravy, apples, and biscuits were all very good in flavor and texture, and the hot cocoa was rich without being too sweet. It's conveniently located downtown and parking was not an issue. It's small with a long counter bar and booths. We sat ourselves in a booth and ordered the scrambled eggs, bacon l, and hash browns along with a BLT (add cheese). The breakfast was delicious and bacon cooked nicely, The BLT would have been much better if the cheese would have been heated instead of cold. I prefer it all heated together. We had an awesome breakfast at this cute cafe! The service was friendly and fast! We agreed that the biscuits and gravy and pancakes were stellar, as were the Hashbrowns. The biscuits are huge, and fluffy and so buttery! The gravy had just the right amount of sausage and pepper, and was so smooth and creamy. The Hashbrowns were crispy and also tender. Wow! Oh yeah and this pancakes were heavenly! We just moved to the area, and we are excited to try more things on the menu. You can't beat the prices either! So reasonable! read more

Carolina Cafe has become our once a month morning date spot. It is definitely busy. Sometimes you score a booth but the last time we sat at the bar. However I can get those delicious biscuits, I'll sit there. They have mile high delicious incredible biscuits. It's what southern dreams are made of! You can sit at the long counter stool and watch them work. We arrived for a late breakfast and it appears most folks were eating lunch and it all looked terrific. We opted for biscuit and gravy and they were out of the sawmill gravy so we got brown instead which threw off our intentions that morning but it was still good. I'm looking forward to going back and having a burger. The place was buzzin and very busy yet our server was sweet as the tea we were drinking. Their window states that they offer "Home Style Cooking", and one look at their menu verifies this. Any place that sells deviled eggs, sliced tomatoes, and fat back as menu items is southern style home cooking for sure. I've been a few times recently while exploring the Reidsville area, and have sampled an array of their offerings. Hot dog all the way: excellent, all beef wiener accompanied by excellent chili and slaw (and mustard and onions, of course) served on a soft bun. Definitely order this if you are a hot dog fan. Bologna burger: just a slice of fried bologna on a bun, but it is tasty. Meat loaf: typical fare, but very competent. Hamburger steak: similar to the meatloaf, just a simple comfort food. Potato salad: excellent with nice fresh chopped crunchies in it. Mac and cheese: hard to mess this up, and theirs is just fine.  Corn bread: I am not a corn bread fanatic, but this stuff was excellent! Muffin-style, with a lovely, perfectly crusty exterior and soft interior. The employees are cheerful and friendly, the price is fair, and the food is very good, classic southern comfort food.  Worth a stop if you are in Reidsville. read more

First try here for lunch and we were well pleased with the entire experience. The food was very good, ingredients were fresh, and plentiful. The wait staff was attentive and funny. I loved the atmosphere, small town cafe with a homey feel. We had to sit at the counter due to the number of patrons but the counter seats were comfortable. The prices were reasonable and in line with the competition. We will be going back to try other items off the menu. I love this place! large servings, quality farm fresh foods, cooked to order. the service was excellent. friendly staff with smiling faces. the ambiance is sometimes a tight squeeze. during busy times it can be a bit crowded and if you happen to be claustrophobic (like one of my relatives was one day so we couldn't eat there at that time) or if don't like to sit in close proximity to lots of other friendly patrons or neighbors then bypass this joint. otherwise well worth the wait and I can't get over how heavenly their scratch made biscuits are. This was the best fine ! Being close to Annie Penn Hospital is also great for family with their loved ones. The service was quick and very friendly. My mom ordered the breakfast plate and it didn't disappoint! Everything is was cooked perfectly. Siri found this place for me and it is not much of a looker but the prices and the food were AWESOME!! I got a couple of biscuits to go and when we got home, we were very pleased at the portions of ham and eggs and the taste was all excellent. My wife loved the sausage gravy and biscuits. Awesome little place for some home style country cookin'. This little jewel is tucked away on a side street in the downtown area of Big Ol' Reidsville. Not really noticeable if you're not looking for it as there is no big signage to draw you in. It's a narrow spot once you enter, booths along the wall and stools at the counter, easy to be bumpin' elbows when the there's a full house. They are open for breakfast and lunch only, Saturday is breakfast only and closed on Sunday. On my breakfast visits I've had nothing but fantastic food. The biscuits are scratch made, they are great covered in their sawmill gravy which is the white gravy with sausage in it, they do brown gravy as well. The eggs and omelettes are always perfect, the pancakes are great too. When Banner Sausage & Eggs, Fatback and Pork Brains are items on the menu you know there is some real deal country cookin' goin' on. I haven't made it by for lunch yet, but they do a different lunch specials menu everyday along with the standard menu items like burgers, hot dogs and other sandwiches. Daily specials are usually 4 or 5 meat options and a dozen or so sides to choose from along with couple of homemade desserts available. The daily specials menu is posted every morning on their Facebook page, at lunch you can find things like baked spaghetti, steak & gravy, salmon cakes, meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken pie, various casseroles and more on a rotating schedule. I don't usually write a review after one visit but I don't know that I'll be back. Not because there was a problem but because I don't live near here and I have a preferred food stop when I'm in the area. We came here due to my preferred food joint being closed. We drove to Reidsville just for breakfast and had to chose somewhere else to go. This place had good reviews so this is where we went. The restaurant itself is an old style downtown cafe and seems to have existed for many decades. The space is tight with a row of booths and permanent bar stools at the bar. Parking can be rough depending on the time you go. There were 8 of us so we split in 2 booths and had plenty of room. Everyone ordered something different and all seemed to enjoy their food. The pancakes seemed a bit small (about 4-5" in diameter) and didn't seem to be made out of typical pancake mix. The biscuits and gravy was delicious and my over-medium eggs were over-light but they were also good. Pricing here was very reasonable and the staff was on top of everything. If you're in the area and looking for a decent breakfast then you ought to stop in. read more

This is an old diner tucked in between some downtown stores that is a tradition in Reidsville. They cook to the old textile and tobacco mill palates and it's hard to find a seat. Don't go in there looking for lox and bagels or gluten-free French toast...everybody's friendly, it's noisy and the orders move fast...the locals swear by it. You know a place is local when their coffee mugs advertise for surrounding businesses. This has been my family's place to come for breakfast since finding it tucked away in the heart of downtown. Within walking distance of the local farmer's market, Carolina Cafe provides a quality meal at a very reasonable price. You get a sense of the past just by walking in -- the old memorabilia on the walls and the regulars sitting in their seats like they have since it opened. A great place for all meals, I have only ever ordered breakfast. The toast for the table comes in a basket, and everything is cooked perfectly to order. It's a no frills place, but it has so much character and charm to offer. Bring your family or just bring yourself. It doesn't matter because you're always welcomed here. The service is excellent and the coffee is always fresh and inviting. If you're ever downtown and you see that they're open, pop in and sit a while (and eat, of course).
