Unfortunately I had to knock off a few stars after the last visit. Grits good but waaaaaay too salty. Sausage was questionable. Service was lackluster. Are you bored? Listless? Adrift? At the end of this review, I have a project for you to work on to occupy your time. Mom's Kitchen expertly displays the essence of Southern Hospitality. The servers are patient and kind, and the prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately, the food is just mediocre. Country Style Steak: the gravy was great, but the steak itself had an odd texture. Mashed Potatoes: instant and just okay, made much better by gravy. Field Peas and Snaps: they were canned, but it is hard to go wrong here, and they were good. Pintos: too many of the beans were starting to lose their individuality, but they tasted okay. Mac N Cheese: weird. I'm not even sure what I mean by this, I guess you can try it and see, but I wouldn't. Cornbread: the most lifeless and tasteless cornbread I ever et. Sweet tea: just about average or maybe a tick above. Project: I've seen a lot of menus in my life, and I've never seen one this rife with errors in spelling and grammar. Great food! Great service! I call in my breakfast and it's always ready. Mom's is a family treat for a big dine in breakfast.

Can not recommend even an exploratory stop here after our lunch experience today. This is a typical mom & pop small town eatery, plainly decorated, and maybe a touch larger than most. I'd pasted it a number of times while on business, and decided today to stop in. The menu contained the usual suspects - variety of sandwiches, burgers, hot dog, several plates, and a couple of daily specials. They also listed barbecue, but my guess would be that the only cooking of that item here would in the microwave.Today's plate special was Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravy, which we ordered, along with a chili dog and fries. Even though this was early in the lunch four, it took over 20 minutes to get our order, and even then they brought the dog and fries out way before the steak. The waitress said it was taking so long because they were "testing" the gravy - I did not take this as something that should give me confidence in the dish. The chili dog was simply bad - chili was tomatoey, thin, and sweet; the bun was somewhat stale; and there was entirely too much mustard. The fries were the ridged logs, no taste, pasty. The Chicken Fried Steak was of the pre-prepared, frozen variety. When you cut into it, the batter inevitably pulled away fron the thin slice of steak underneath. The cream gravy was only ok, weak in flavor, and watery. Both the pinto beans and the turnip greens were canned, with the beans having no flavor, despite a large mound on chopped onion on top. Best to pass this place by, for lunch at least, and head to Reidsville or Eden. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I don't get to eat here as often as I would like because it's a 45 minute drive from my house but several times a year we come here, usually for breakfast. If you like down home country cooking then this is the place. It doesn't matter if your eating breakfast or lunch (they close at 3, and 1 on Saturday), always ask for their grits. When they're out they're out but if they have them, you've got to get them. We can't eat here without their grits. My daughter (22) can't stand grits but even she eats these. The grits alone are worth the 45 minute drive for us. I have had most everything on their menu and the only thing that was questionable was one bowl of gravy. It was around 11am and I think I got the bottom of the pot. All other times it has been good. Their wait staff try very hard but I believe at times they are a waitress short because it seems hard for them to keep up. All in all, this is would be my go to for breakfast if it wasn't so far away. read more

Moms kitchen doesn't accept cards. They have an ATM with a $2.50 surcharge. The waitresses (the business overall) would be making so much more money if they accepted cards, I could order more and leave a bigger tip if I could charge it on my card. I came in at 11a and couldn't order breakfast. I go to the community college by the restaurant so I come here often, when I have cash. Food tastes good, however the service is usually slow. read more

We had breakfast here this morning and it was terrible! The eggs tasted terrible, almost like someone had ordered onions before I ordered my eggs and they just cooked my eggs in the same grease as the onions. The gravy like water and tasted so bad that I couldn't even eat it. The only thing that was decent was the bacon and the biscuit. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Moms Kitchen did our wedding catering in Greensboro, NC and were fantastic! Easy to work with, flexible with menu items, affordable and great tasting Southern dishes. Sometimes wedding food is a little blah but our menu still has our guests talking-over a year later! Mom's has become my go to place for breakfast when I fly in from California to visit with my brother and sister in law. The grits and biscuits are unreal good. Also, I recommend the spicy sausage. Not only are the waitresses fantastic but, I find many of customers very friendly and interesting to talk with. The waitresses are very attentive. Making sure you have plenty of coffee and anything else you may want. If you find yourself in the area. Be sure to give their breakfast a try. I am getting married and wanted to have this restaurant cater my reception. I called and made an appointment to meet and go over the menu. My fiancé and I got to the restaurant on time only to find that no one was there. I called the next day they were open to ask why we were stood up and was told that the person who I made the appointment with didn't even know who I was. I told them they lost business by standing me up. A few minutes later my phone rang and the owner left a very, very rude message for me and went on to talk pure junk about other area restaurants instead of apologizing and trying to rectify the situation. Mom's Kitchen is the typical mom and pop restaurant for the area. I eat lunch here at least once every month. Most of the time I do get it to go as the wait staff is extremely slow and terrible about giving refills on your drinks. However, the food is always good and hot, their chicken breast while a little on the small size is always moist and cooked great, country style steak is delicious and their mashed potatoes are the best I have EVER eaten at a restaurant. For a real treat go for breakfast, pancakes and omelets are good but the grits are the best around!! If you have plenty of time to wait this is a good place to eat. read more

Were it not for a friend meeting us here, we would have passed it by -- probably have a number of times. ZOWIE! This place is a gem! While it is true we were the only ones in there for a late lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but I truly think this sweet sweet lady would have mastered full house! We all had something different -- from breakfast to sandwiches, to grilled tuna melt (to DIE for!). Service was quick and seamless and all together. Not an unhappy customer at our table!! I have eaten here many times and the food was great. However, the last time I was there the owner's small daughter had the run of the restaurant and went up to the ice machine, picked her nose and then played with the ice machine again. The delicious food that I had just eaten got regurgated once I got home. Don't think I'll go back, even for the good food. :( read more
