The sweet potato tart was spicy and I could really appreciate the nutmeg cinnamon and allspice flavors in a creamy sweet potato base. The crust was also very well prepared as it was just crunchy enough. The owners Al and Eric who told me his nickname is turmeric were also there and they were so pleasant and kind. Eric told me that his nickname is turmeric, and I complimented him on the excellent play on his name. He told me that they have events often and tonight they will be having a tribute to D'Angelo with the DJ and everything! Later in the month, they are going to have a Prince tribute as well! He also mentioned a paint and sip event where the artist will be there. They have beautiful art on the walls and the vibe here is cozy and pleasant. Next, it had the misfortune of sharing a name - but no other affiliation - with the former Greensboro shop, woefully mismanaged in its last days, that gave way to Chandler's. Look past these ill tidings, however, and there's a lot to like here. The Green Bean is bright and spacious with plenty of seating inside and out. The menu features some appealing seasonal drinks made with local (Fortuna?) beans. The barista I spoke to was kind and patient while I made up my mind. The decision between the Cherry Street Latte (espresso/cherry/vanilla) and the Sundae Mocha (espresso/caramel/white mocha/whipped cream) was a tough one, but I ended up going with the former. The syrups were good, and were it not for some bitterness - perhaps a lighter roast than I'm used to - I'd have liked the coffee as much as I liked everything else about this place. Between Savage Roasters, Kyle's, and others, Kernersville is almost as coffee-packed as Greensboro, and it can be hard to pry yourself away from a local favorite. The Green Bean, however, deserves a shot (pun intended) to brighten up your day.
