When she presented me with the flowers, I was absolutely delighted. They were beautiful, and I proudly displayed them on my dresser where I could admire them every day. Unfortunately, by day FOUR, the flowers were already wilting. Not exactly what you expect from a nearly $100 arrangement purchased from a professional florist. I contacted Peter Gregory Florist, shared photographs of the deteriorating flowers, and explained my disappointment. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I simply wanted the beautiful, fresh arrangement my daughter believed she was purchasing. Their solution? 15% off my daughter's NEXT purchase and free delivery. So, apparently, the remedy for selling flowers that don't hold up is to encourage the customer to come back and spend MORE money. I explained that I would prefer a replacement arrangement. I was told the employee would need to speak with the owner and get back to me. When I finally received an update Thursday evening, I was even more disappointed. Rather than acknowledge my concerns, the explanation was that my daughter selected roses and should have chosen carnations instead. Imagine that. A customer walks into a professional florist, purchases roses that the business sells as fresh, and when those roses begin wilting after four days, the response is essentially that she should have bought something else. If carnations were the better choice for longevity, wouldn't that have been helpful information to share BEFORE accepting nearly $100 of her money? And if customers are expected to know which flowers will last, what exactly is the value of purchasing from a professional florist? What makes this especially disappointing is that the arrangement was more than just flowers. It represented my daughter's love, thoughtfulness, and desire to celebrate an important moment in my life. She deserved better for the money she spent. I understand that flowers are perishable and won't last forever. But I also believe that when a customer expresses a legitimate concern, a business has an opportunity to demonstrate the quality of both its products and its customer service. Peter Gregory Florist had an opportunity to replace a disappointing arrangement and earn a loyal customer. Instead, they offered a discount on another purchase and an explanation that placed the responsibility on my daughter. I declined the offer. My advice? If you're spending close to $100 on flowers for someone you love, consider a florist that stands behind what it sells.
