The Honey Owl and sausage sandwich
Sandra K.

I know it's in the burbs but it's really a good place. Lots of close parking and a huge outdoor patio. Plenty of tables were open inside too. I got the honey owl which was spot on. However my sausage sandwich was good in that the bread was soft and the egg seasoned well but the sausage was kind of off. It was crumbly as I ate it and was significantly smaller than the bun and the egg. Service was perfect and fast and the prices were reasonable.

Lovely vibe with live piano, hanging chairs, quirky owl decor, and a friendly owner. So relaxing. The citrus mocha was kind of like a frozen chocolate orange! Great. We also had a house special latte, with cinnamon and nutmeg. Very holiday reminiscent, and tasty

Perfect spot to get work done!! Lots of natural sunlight and tables. I ordered an iced pomberry ( a herbal tea) which they brought to me in this cute tea set up. The tea was okay, I think next time I will ask for honey or some other alternative sweetener. Other than that, I am excited to come back to this location and try out other drinks.

Cinnamon Oat Latte

Mhmmm... was my reaction after taking the first sip of my cinnamon oat latte. The cafe was cute and cozy. I went on a Saturday, good thing I didn't intend on staying because the cafe was full.

Decaf mocha

Excellent mocha and muffins! Cool vibe, too. It's a great spot for dessert. Enjoyed the outdoor seating.

We were staying down the road from Java Owl and my husband has been here on previous trips. It's a cute coffee house but unfortunately, the coffee is just ok. If you want an espresso drink go for a cortado (or flat white) as anything larger and the espresso is too weak to handle all the milk. The brewed coffee is not much better..

Java Owl has respectable hours every morning and is open until a logical time on Friday and Saturday evenings

I was looking for a coffeehouse in the Bay Area, as Houston calls its I-45 strand of suburbs outside of the Sam Houston Tollway in the direction of Galveston. A lot of these suburbs are nice bedroom communities and, with that, I knew there would be some nice coffeehouses. In looking at listings and photos, one such coffeehouse was Java Owl. I was up for this. It seemed like an indie coffeehouse with a lot of character. It also looked like they put some time and effort into making it look appealing, both inside and out. Note that finding a coffeehouse in this area that keeps late hours is not that easy. They don't stay open that late, but do open early. From the front of the shopping center, you can see the entrance to Space Center Houston! That also means that you have to drive on that racetrack of a thoroughfare named NASA Pkwy 1. Mostly, Java Owl is about coffee, but they do have a decent selection of teas. Teas are served in a teapot, from which you pour your own cups and it's what I've come to prefer. They also have baked goods. Note that, as the day wears on, their supply of baked goods diminishes. They do not have much in the way of savory items which, in my mind, pair well with coffee or tea. It's also the reason I'm holding back from 5 stars. The pricing was appropriate. The store is clean and bright. There is a capacious section of parking in the shared lot that is close to Java Owl. The service was very polite. Even the customers are very pleasant. There is a fair bit of intellectual horsepower in these suburbs and, when you combine that with H-town's freewheeling style, warm weather, and many transplants, it's the sort of ambiance you'd expect in a nicer suburban Sunbelt area. About the suburbs, their naming can be a little strange. Big chunks of the Bay Area are still in the city of Houston, while there is a patchwork of small communities with names like Nassau Bay, El Lago, Kemah, and such. This coffeehouse is in Nassau Bay. I stopped in twice and really liked it. That said, I would readily return to Java Owl and recommend it.

This review is only really for the matcha. The place was nice and service was quick. I ordered an iced matcha latte with whole milk and no sweetener. The barista told me the matcha was already sweetened but they had an unsweetened ceremonial grade matcha as well, so that is what I ordered. It was about $6.50. It was decent, obviously not sweet, but it didn't have much flavor. It was less of a matcha latte and more like slightly matcha flavored milk.

On my first visit on a Saturday evening, the diverse crowd struck me as beautiful when I was three steps into the door. Every age, race and gender was represented in the staff and customer base. I enjoyed a gentleman playing guitar, a young man on piano, and an aunt and nephew rendition of Stand By Me done acapella. The staff were very attentive and my Americano was excellent. The prices were fair and the atmosphere gets an A+++++++. My wife and I will be back.

Let's just say customer service and coffee are top tier. Java Owl feels warm and welcoming. It was nice to enjoy a cup of coffee as if I was in my living room with a friend chatting. Great staff and fast service. Great local coffee shop!!!!

my friend and I stopped in before hitting the gym, walking in was adorable! indoor and outdoor seating, with many game options to play! two egg swings inside which we snagged! I will say I did not like my London fog at all, however they do make me a chai tea instead to make up for it, which was better!

What a beautiful day and a lovely place to spend it. Not only was the coffee and the pastry absolutely delish, the staff and overall vibe of the inside and outside seating areas was absolutely perfect. If you are in the area and looking for a chill place to work or just relax, this is the spot!

Ask the Community - Java Owl Coffee House

Hi there. I'm in town for the day and would love to come by. Do y'all have a dog friendly area for my small dog and I to come have a coffee this afternoon?

We are dog friendly as long has the dog is friendly (and maybe not too overly friendly) :) we’d love to meet you and the pup!

Hi, can I get a menu for the drinks and snacks that you serve at the cafe?

Is there oat milk substitute?

Hi Kevin! We are happy to offer oat, almond, and coconut (all unsweetened).

Are you planning on getting soy milk?

Not at this time... but we would never say never.

I ordered it hot because it's a but nippy outside and it comes with 1 shot if espresso. If you are wanting/needing more then let them know!. I've never had a red velvet latte nor have I ever seen it on a menu so I gave it a try. Surprisingly good! It had a nice hint of peppermint and a slight mocha taste. I don't like mocha coffee and I think this was a very good subtle peppermint mocha. If you don't like peppermint then this drink is not for you. I would definitely get this again and a bigger cup or better yet see if they would put it in one of my own mugs. They started selling breakfast tacos! If I was hungry I would have gave it a go but I wasn't so next time! I love the addition of a coffee shop within heb. I never have enough time in my day and it's nice you knock off groceries and a tasty coffee in one stop. They do have merchandise for purchase as well. You honestly can't miss it because it so nice bright and an inviting spot that you can see from the check out counter. Unless you are at self check out then you may miss the coffee shop. I wish their IG page stays updated with their seasonal drinks available. I am a sucker to try out seasonal drinks and usually I plan out my visit by seeing their IG pages first to see what they currently have to offer.

I tried to make the best of it by eating around the sandwich on the outer corners thinking it would be ok, but it wasn't. I tried taking a bite removing the meat, but the egg was just as cold. Ultimately, I had to make the best of it and just eat the bread to have something in my system being that I had an hour drive. This was roughly at 9:45 am. I attempted to contact the store via phone, but they don't have phones in store and instead you're routed to their website. Hours later, at 5pm I thought maybe the store would consider a refund. To my surprise the manager Sam refused after I shared my story due to a lack of receipt, not knowing how long I had the left overs, and that it was a half eaten sandwich. I advised that I didn't get a receipt, and that I still had the pending charge on my card. That wasn't sufficient, understandable. I asked if their rewards system would show my recent purchase and the barista said yes, but still her manager said they couldn't do anything for me. I know it appears it's half eaten in the photo, but you can see where I took my initial bite and the spit out the second. Notice the patty is still mostly there. I understand the challenges they must face with customers falsifying returns, but they had the software to prove my purchase and still declined. Something so simple they could have obliged and chose not to.
