She was awesome. Everyone loved their food. I had the Big Breakfast again and had the same banana pecan pancakes I ordered during my last visit but this time I got jalapeno bacon as my protein and hashbrowns instead of grits. The bacon was SO GOOD and was full of jalapeno flavor but minus the spice. I could've eaten a couple more slices of that goodness. It was crispy, a tad bit burnt but again it was so good. The hashbrowns were perfectly crispy. I also made sure to get plenty of strawberry butter this time and I slathered it all over my pancake and biscuit. The kiddos had child's plates that included two mini pancakes, eggs and a choice of protein. My cousin had a hash that looked incredible and she said it was very tasty. I'll have to try it out one day if I can ever break myself away from the pancakes. Just like last time the amibiance was warm, cozy, family friendly and Christian themed. This just might be my fave breakfast spot. I absolutely love it.

I'd consider ordering food, walking around, then eating, might be a more streamlined experience for those of you that have to keep kids entertained! I ordered the Turkey panini, which was delicious, I loved the amount of pesto, not too much cheese, bread was nice and fluffy, it was really quite a fantastic offering! I saw they have some gluten free options, cookies, bunch of sandwiches (wish I took a photo of the menu) and the staff was grateful for customers and friendly to our questions. I didn't take a photo but they had a bunch of flavored iced teas, I think I had a peach one, it was delicious!

Java Owl Coffee House

Ah, Java Owl -- a welcome little refuge in the strip-mall sprawl and chain-coffee sameness of Clear…read moreLake. The kind of place you stumble into expecting caffeine and leave with a small, irrational faith in humanity restored. People like to say Montrose is where Houston keeps its cool, its weird, its pulse. Maybe. But Java Owl makes a strong case that Clear Lake has been hiding a little strange magic of its own. It is bright, clean, odd in the best possible way, and alive with the feeling that something interesting might happen before you finish your cup. Now, the important part: the coffee. I judge a place by the black cup. No sugar, no milk, no whipped cream masquerading as personality. Just coffee, exposed and unprotected. Java Owl passes that test. The roast has character. It tastes like someone cared. It does not taste like the sad, scorched sludge you get from places that treat coffee beans like evidence to be burned. And if you want something more elaborate, they have that too. The specialty drinks rotate, mutate, and show up with a kind of reckless creativity that works more often than it has any right to. Every visit seems to bring some new concoction, some fresh little act of caffeinated imagination. Late nights at the Owl are their own species of entertainment. Beer, wine, conversation, and the grand old human circus of people watching. Someone might break into "Sweet Caroline." Someone else might decide the room needs a guitar solo. You do not so much sit there as get folded into the scene. It is noisy, warm, occasionally ridiculous, and never dull. Somehow, the place manages to be both energetic and peaceful, which should be impossible and yet is not. Good coffee, good people, a little music, a little chaos, and staff who seem genuinely happy to be there. The positivity is not the forced kind. It is not laminated corporate cheer. It is real enough that you can walk in tired and walk out a little lighter. So yes, go. Go to see and be seen, sure. But more than that, go because places like this matter. Java Owl is coffee, community, weirdness, and warmth in a town that could use more of all four.

The "Benny" caught my eye for its unique composition of many of my favorite things, all put together. I normally ask if shops have chicory coffee, and am usually disappointed. My kids and I met my sister and her husband there for drinks and a snack. They were having a birthday celebration for the shop being at that location for two years. Kids were playing with balloons and they have a little area with blocks and toys for the little. I liked that. I had the limited time birthday cake late. It wasn't as sweet as I expected but i loved it. The flavor was more coffee facing and that's how i like it. My sister on the other hand likes a sweet coffee. She asked them to recommend something and the guy at the register recommended the Ube oat milk late. I love Ube and to me the drinks was good. Definitely sweeter than mine but still very coffee facing. My daughter had the lemon aid and loved it. I thought it was tart but good. My daughter also got a blueberry muffin that was delicious. I used to frequent this place while in college to study. Now I drop in every once in a while to try their new items out. Now to August they have a summer menu, from which we got the lemonade pie, cookie butter latte and tres leches latte. The tres leches latte was okay, it was just milky coffee which considering its tres leches seems about right. I preferred the cookie butter latte as it had a stronger taste of the flavoring. Although I will say we got two cookie butter lattes one with oatmilk one with regular milk and in the oatmilk one the cookie flavor was much more prominent so I would recommend getting oatmilk in it, if you decide to try it. The lemonade pie was really though, I always enjoy the baked goods they have.
