What a cute place for a cup of coffee. We had been traveling all day and needed a little pick me up and found this place on Yelp. The coffee was great and the patio outside had a great view. I'm glad we ran into the Java Moose but the only thing that might be a problem is bring CASH. This is a small business and credit cards take a chuck of your money so I can see why it is cash only. Great spot for lunch. I got a iced mocha and a Kelly's Veggie Sandwich with pesto. The sandwich is served hot, panini style. It was so delicious! Great coffee & fresh baked treat, friendly staff. Very cute shop, too!

My husband and I ate breakfast and had great coffee there. We stayed for about 4 hours because we were using the Wi Fi. In that 4 hours we witnessed many different people coming in for breakfast and then for lunch. The ladies working there were so friendly and eager to serve all who came in. They never made us feel that we were in the way or taking up seats and the place is very small. We were very impressed with the service as well as the food!!! A definite place to stop by. read more

The breakfast food was great, after a decent wait. The only downside was that the staff was rather rude. After paying for our food one of the ladies working behind the counter ignored our request for a cup of water. I came in here while my laundry was going at the laundromat. I think there was a (Mother) and (Daughter) working the counter. They have a BLT, sandwich which has Chipotle sauce. They also have a BLAT (Bacon, Lettuce, Avacado, Tomato) with a Bistro Italian Cream Sauce. I asked if I could have Chipotle on the BLAT. The (Daughter) took my order and said yes I could have Chipotle on BLAT. I politely asked if the cash registers made receipts could I please get one? The (Daughter) said, "Sure." But then she forgot to do the receipt. The issue is...... if they ring up the next customer then they can't reprint my receipt. (I'm kind of obsessive about receipts) So, I politely (or I thought I was being polite....) said "Receipt please?" and the (Daughter) happily got it for me, but the (Mother?) seemed to get agitated at this request. She snapped, "WE CAN GET THE RECEIPT!!!" Um..... didn't mean to make you upset..... Ok, I'm trying to look for the good, I was in there at 1:00 PM and there was a bit of a line of customers. Perhaps the (Mother?) was feeling overwhelmed...... Anyway, I ordered a BLAT. The (Mother?) brought it out to me, and by then, seemed to not be as agitated. But I did notice the toasted bun had a few crispy burned areas..... just a few.... With the sandwiches, you get Side salad, potato salad, or chips. I ordered potato salad. The potato salad was good, but I'm guessing it was commercial and not made in the restaurant. But if you order the BLAT, ask for CHIPOTLE sauce instead of Bistro sauce. I am going to try it with Bistro sauce next time, but the Chipotle on it was FANTASTIC!!! (note: they already put the Chipotle on the standard BLT...) The price of $7.25 for my sandwich with potato salad was about right. I was surprised it wasn't more expensive. I wanted to give them five stars, but snapping at me about the receipt, well, took one star away. I'm willing to award a "half" star back for them putting the Chipotle on the BLAT instead of the Bistro sauce (which I will try next time....) Oh, they have Wifi, but the password wasn't posted. (I guess you have to ask....). They have a limit of 2 hours on the Wifi. If you are in an RV, no place to park the RV. Unless you park it somewhere and walk over...... read more

It's tiny, so careful or you'll miss it. My family stopped there on our way through town. We got quite a variety of things. We were originally hoping to hit the restaurant down the street but it was closed. So Java Moose it was. We ended up being more than thrilled with the experience. The people working were upbeat and super friendly. They were patient with our giant order for 6 people (I tipped 20%). Everything was super tasty. I got a vanilla latte, perfectly sweet and smooth. My son got an Italian soda which was flavorful but not overly syrupy and sweet. My sis in law did say the hot chocolate was very dark (just a heads up if you don't like yours too chocolaty). My hubby and I both got breakfast sandwiches which were hot, fresh tasting and really great. Between us all we got a sampling of cinnamon rolls and muffins and they were awesome. Light and tasty, not dense and heavy. All in all it was a fantastic surprise on our drive from Dillon to Durango and if we pass by again, we will stop! Regarding Covid: the store space is small, people were careful to hang out outside until the inside was clear. Staff and customers wearing masks while inside and ordering. A few tables and lots of chairs outside for hanging out. We felt very safe. read more

This is a good place to stop to refuel with some coffee before continuing your journey to somewhere else. Fairplay is small so if you blink you will miss it. I had a white chocolate mocha which kept me in caffeine until Salida. Friendly staff and quick service. read more

We were traveling with our pet and opted to pass up on a sit down restaurant and instead opted to grab sandwiches for take out at a deli/coffee house. There was one other person in front of me. I ordered a blat (blt with avacado) and turkey with cheese sandwiches. Also bought a moose bar (dreambar recipe). The person in front of me got their sandwich) and 15 minutes later I smell bacon (I think...are they making the bacon from scratch????) the smell subsides and 10 more minutes go by- I finally ask how much longer this will take? Finally the young guy come out with the sandwiches. The sandwiches were just "ok". There seems to be no sense of urgency and even a non-chalant attitude about service. Meh. This is my favorite stop-over while driving through. Great coffee, quick service, clean bathrooms, and tasty food. And, they have gluten-free bagels, which you can also use for one of their sandwiches. The only downside is it's cash-only (or in-state checks) but they do have an ATM inside. read more

If you are choosing between gas station coffee and this place, it's worth the stop. Cute little place but suffers from the same affliction as do many of the restaurants in our Colorado rural communities: the employees seem to think you are there for them at their convenience and rather annoying at that. I made a rather simple order of a Cappuccino and sandwich right off the board. The were 5 other people in the whole place and it took over 20 minutes and wasn't impressive. We stopped here twice on the way to and from Breckenridge. The first time, we were just looking for a quick restaurant in Fairplay for our group of ten; we stumbled upon this place and it was completely packed inside, but we waited in line to order and our sandwiches were ready surprisingly fast! All ten of us were taken aback by how amazing the sandwiches are here! Their paninis are to die for! They also have good outdoor seating and quick service. We enjoyed this place so much that we stopped for coffee a week later, and I had one of the best mochas I have ever had! Their coffee is great. I just had the turkey pesto which I liked very much. 4 stars for the sandwich. But this being an espresso bar, I also had a double shot of espresso. There was no crema whatsoever and perhaps the beans were somewhat stale. For that reason I gave the buisness a 3 star rating overall. Afterall this is a java joint. We were doing a loop from Denver through Breckenridge and then Fairplay. Saw Java Moose in Yelp and thought it would be a great stop in the travels. Turns out it was a wasted stop. Came in for coffee and such and all we got was an earful from the "staff" about someone who was arrested...how, why and way too much other information. Don't really know if the coffee is any good because the neither of them would wait on us. Such a waste of our time...and theirs for that matter. read more
