What a cute place for a cup of coffee. We had been traveling all day and needed a little pick me up and found this place on Yelp. The coffee was great and the patio outside had a great view. I'm glad we ran into the Java Moose but the only thing that might be a problem is bring CASH. This is a small business and credit cards take a chuck of your money so I can see why it is cash only. I love supporting small businesses so I was lucky I had some cash. read more

Great coffee & fresh baked treat, friendly staff. Very cute shop, too!

My husband and I ate breakfast and had great coffee there. We stayed for about 4 hours because we were using the Wi Fi. In that 4 hours we witnessed many different people coming in for breakfast and then for lunch. The ladies working there were so friendly and eager to serve all who came in. They never made us feel that we were in the way or taking up seats and the place is very small. We were very impressed with the service as well as the food!!! A definite place to stop by. read more

The breakfast food was great, after a decent wait. The only downside was that the staff was rather rude. After paying for our food one of the ladies working behind the counter ignored our request for a cup of water. This is a good place to stop to refuel with some coffee before continuing your journey to somewhere else. Fairplay is small so if you blink you will miss it. I had a white chocolate mocha which kept me in caffeine until Salida. Friendly staff and quick service. read more

This is a great place to stop for coffee in South Park. It's really small, so get it and go.

We were traveling with our pet and opted to pass up on a sit down restaurant and instead opted to grab sandwiches for take out at a deli/coffee house. There was one other person in front of me. I ordered a blat (blt with avacado) and turkey with cheese sandwiches. Also bought a moose bar (dreambar recipe). The person in front of me got their sandwich) and 15 minutes later I smell bacon (I think...are they making the bacon from scratch????) the smell subsides and 10 more minutes go by- I finally ask how much longer this will take? Finally the young guy come out with the sandwiches. The sandwiches were just "ok". There seems to be no sense of urgency and even a non-chalant attitude about service. Meh. Stopped here for a quick breakfast on our way to the airport, we ordered breakfast bagels and bagels with cream cheese. We thought it was delicious! We asked for toasted bagels but it came out just "warm" so ask for it to be extra toasted. Coffee there is really good! Cute little place. read more

We stopped here twice on the way to and from Breckenridge. The first time, we were just looking for a quick restaurant in Fairplay for our group of ten; we stumbled upon this place and it was completely packed inside, but we waited in line to order and our sandwiches were ready surprisingly fast! All ten of us were taken aback by how amazing the sandwiches are here! Their paninis are to die for! They also have good outdoor seating and quick service. We enjoyed this place so much that we stopped for coffee a week later, and I had one of the best mochas I have ever had! Their coffee is great. If you're going for breakfast, try a cinnamon roll because they're amazing! We will definitely be back next year on our way to Breck. read more

This is my favorite stop-over while driving through. Great coffee, quick service, clean bathrooms, and tasty food. And, they have gluten-free bagels, which you can also use for one of their sandwiches. The only downside is it's cash-only (or in-state checks) but they do have an ATM inside. read more

I just had the turkey pesto which I liked very much. 4 stars for the sandwich. But this being an espresso bar, I also had a double shot of espresso. There was no crema whatsoever and perhaps the beans were somewhat stale. For that reason I gave the buisness a 3 star rating overall. Afterall this is a java joint. If you are choosing between gas station coffee and this place, it's worth the stop. Cute little place but suffers from the same affliction as do many of the restaurants in our Colorado rural communities: the employees seem to think you are there for them at their convenience and rather annoying at that. I made a rather simple order of a Cappuccino and sandwich right off the board. The were 5 other people in the whole place and it took over 20 minutes and wasn't impressive. Had unfriendly staff, waited thirty minutes for ham sandwiches for kids and it was two pieces of bread with 1 slice of ham in between there was no sauce just bread and a piece of ham. And the price for the bread and ham, you can't really call that a sandwich, was $3.25 which seems high considering there was no chips or fries or anything, won't be going back. read more

More like what I've had in southern Europe & less like Starbucks. Didn't get hot food but the baked goods were good. The paninis looked good but didnt eat there. Service was friendly & helpful. I want to love Java Moose because of how few places there are to eat/get coffee in the Fairplay area, but the people working there are so incredibly rude, and consistently. I hope that the owner takes note of these reviews, because I'm not the first to say this, and I know it's the general thought about Java Moose from others I've talked to. It's one thing to be rude in New York City, but these are the mountains! Everyone's so nice in this town except for you! There need to be new faces behind the counter. Food is pretty good!! We were doing a loop from Denver through Breckenridge and then Fairplay. Saw Java Moose in Yelp and thought it would be a great stop in the travels. Turns out it was a wasted stop. Came in for coffee and such and all we got was an earful from the "staff" about someone who was arrested...how, why and way too much other information. Don't really know if the coffee is any good because the neither of them would wait on us. Such a waste of our time...and theirs for that matter. read more

A group of four of us went here after hiking Mt. Sherman this past Saturday. We had a dog with us so my brother stayed outside with the dog while the rest of us went inside to order. We had never been here before so we took a few minutes to look at the menu. Apparently we were taking too long because the girl behind the counter told us if we were not ready to step to the side until we had all decided so that she could help the man behind us. I was fine with her taking his order, but the way she told us to step to the side was completely rude. We told her that my brother would have to come in and look because he was outside with the dog. The girl taking our order said he could bring his dog inside to order. I found this weird since the counter is right by the kitchen. You allow dogs inside your restaurant while you are making food? My brother came inside while one of us watched his dog so he could order quickly since we were apparently an inconvenience to the girl behind the counter. When we had finally all ordered our food and paid the girl behind the counter pushed the tip jar towards us. Are you kidding me?! Once we ordered our food and drinks I waited inside to grab our order. A couple came in after us and stood at the counter waiting for service while the girl behind the counter was busy cracking jokes with a local. She didn't even acknowledge the couple. Once she finally decided to go back to work she gave them the same attitude that my group had received. Everyone was an inconvenience to this girl. Once our order came out I went to the counter to let them know that I had not received my latte which I had paid extra so it could be made with almond milk. There was a different guy this time and he apologized for the mistake. Right after I told him what I had ordered I watched him make my drink with whole milk. Seriously? I was so over it at that point that I just took the drink and walked away. As far as the food goes it was mediocre. My brother had a burrito that he said was ok but the green chili on top was ice cold. My dad's order was also incorrect, but he didn't want to mention anything after the ordering fiasco. I was so disappointed about how they treat customers at Java Moose. Unless they know you personally they are completely rude and apparently do not care about their reputation. read more

Customer service at its worst! We were on a weekend hiking trip and we had time to waste; we certainly weren't in a hurry. However, not only did we not really get waited on, but we were treated so rudely that we'd NEVER go back. We witnessed three separate customers treated in exactly the same manner. The employee threw a to-go order across the counter, ranting about something throughout. I have never submitted a review for any business, but felt so compelled to do so after the atrociously rude service at the Java Moose. It's a week later, and I'm still appalled, wondering how this place stays in business. I was in the Java Moose just the other day, and I was very unhappy with my experience. While not being greeted by the several hippies in pajama pants, it seemed like all of them may have had a few too many dabs this morning, but let's keep in mind that it was 11:20 when I got there. I ordered a simple chai tea and a chicken bacon and tomato sandwich, the chai tea I ordered was brought to me within about 5 minutes, but the sandwich I ordered took the restaurant over 25 minutes to make. At this point it was 11:45 and I had to leave the Java Moose so that I would not be late for work. This seemed a bit shocking that my food was not done considering I had seen at least 3 people leave the kitchen to use the bathroom. Needless to say, I am some what glad my food didn't come considering the hippies I saw exiting and entering the kitchen, I am very happy to hear that another coffee shop is being opened in FairPlay. read more
