    Cup of Chili

Stopped in here with my neighbor after a friend informed us they have great sandwiches! I'm not a coffee drinker so I've driven by here hundreds of times without giving it a second thought. We arrived around 12:15 & walked up to the counter to place our order. I had the Ultimate Club sandwich while my neighbor got the chicken chipotle wrap & a cup of chili. They don't have fountain drinks so we each got a can of soda pop. The chili was good but a bit spicy. My neighbor liked his wrap. I absolutely loved my ultimate club sandwich which had ham, turkey, bacon, tomato, romaine, colby on Wheatberry toast. They have a drive-thru so I can see myself stopping by for another great sandwich. So happy to have discovered this gem.

Went to Java Johnnys for breakfast this morning and had one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. The coffee and staff was also great. I would highly recommend them for a light bteakfast or lunch. They dont have a large menu but what they do have will bring u you back

Amazing mochas, amazing bacon egg and cheese bagel and friendly staff! Anything with the "Johnny Sauce" is great!

Soup of the day...tortellini. Quite good but small portion, in a plastic bowl.

I've been on the fence as far as Java Johnny's goes probably since my first visit. There are aspects of this establishment that are good-as-it-gets perfect, but others that really need work. So I'm going to play it honest and safe and go with three stars at this time. The atmosphere: they have totally nailed it. It's exactly what a modern American café should look and feel like. Two-top tables by the window (nothing to see though), low tops to seat four, sofa and comfy chairs around a coffee table by the fireplace. (I truly hope this is a working fireplace, and time will tell in the not too distant future!) The main dining room is television-free, ahhh! A second room has desks with individual lamps up against one wall, tables for larger groups, more comfy chairs and sofa, plus several flat screen TVs. These were OFF the last time I passed through. Maybe they leave them off as a rule unless a guest wants it on. The coffee: AOK, and lots of options for flavors and lattes--nary a one is low fat/low cal though. Teas available too, and it's a well kept secret that you can get a decaf coffee or tea if you like. The goodies...fresh baked cookies, turnovers, muffins, brownies and other huge sugar and calorie laden delectables. Three to four stars on these. Don't miss the Greek yogurt parfait with homemade granola...grab one out of the cold case and stir that granola in as you like it. Heavenly...and easily two servings. I have half today and stick the other half in the fridge for tomorrow. The lunch options...here's where we slide down the star scale. They are few and very underwhelming, do not show any pride of presentation, and badly need seasoning. And the sandwich filling is, let's call it less than generous. Then it's the little things like saying "on white" and getting on white toast. Or that wrap which was 95% folded rolled cardboard dry wheat wrap with a teeny bit of filler at the very center. Kid you not. It was to go so I didn't have the chance to hand it back to see what would happen. Counter service? Sometimes friendly, sometimes dead-eyed, often disorganized, usually slow. SO: being billed as a café/ eatery, not just a coffeehouse, taking all into account I call it AOK.

Scone and Johnny 's Gourmet Cookie

I came to Java Johnnys on a Saturday morning while spending a day in Middletown. This was my first stop. I had to fuel up before a fun full packed day. I really enjoyed that this is a full service cafe. They have pastries as well as full service menu items. I kept it simply and ordered two scrambled eggs, bacon, and a Cinnamon Chip Scone. I also ordered their Gingerbread Latte. The eggs and bacon were simple and nothing special. The Cinnamon Chip Scone was very good. It was probably one of the best scones I have had. It was tender on the inside but had a good crust in the outside. The flavor was also nice and fitting for the season. It wasn't an overly cinnamon taste. It was perfect. The Gingerbread Latte was goooddd. To my surprise it was sweeter than I expected because most lattes aren't sweet. I only had to add a pinch of sugar compared to when I normally drink lattes. This was a very simple yet yummy breakfast. I also tried Johnny's Gourmet Cookie. It wasn't anything special in my opinion. It was good but just tasted like a typical chocolate chip cookie with walnuts. Overall, the food and latte was good at Java Johnnys and the staff was friendly.

Cute little spot that I almost passed by, especially since my GPS said it was on the right when it actually was on the left. So glad they had a big sign in the yard and not just on their building. The Milky Way latte is delicious and grilled cheese and bacon panini is very tasty. They have lots of fresh baked goods also, so I HAD to get one of their gourmet chocolate chip and walnut cookies to try later. A hidden gem that I hope more will find!

That roaster and coffee beans though!

The lady behind the counter was super helpful about what each item is, how it's made and the price. She was super sweet and also let me try a piece of their original cake donuts. We ended up getting "a slice of heaven" which is somewhat like a donut. It's a big breaded square with powdered sugar sifted on top, my boo got a fudge bark, which was surprisingly good, it wasn't thick like actual fudge and it wasn't too rich or chocolatey it was lowkey perfect boo ate it in 3 bites lol. Then lastly we got a cinnamon crunch which is also known as the elephant ear. I loved the cinnamon crunch too it was a pretty big size shareable for two. It was super thin, I do wish it was a little bit more puffy so it's not like toooo crunchy but the flavor was there. 10/10 will definitely be back for more goodies

However, the initial experience felt a bit unwelcoming. I wasn't greeted by the lady behind the counter, a gentleman entering from another door was. As I browsed the selection, a young man helpfully explained what the "uglies" were--old-fashioned donuts with an irregular shape. We decided to try the peach and cream pączki, a traditional Polish donut, but at $3.50, it felt quite steep, especially when compared to a regular jam-filled donut for under $2. Unfortunately, the pączki was a bit dry, and the filling was sparse. That said, we're still glad we gave it a try. Just a heads-up for those planning to visit--there's a $5 minimum for credit card purchases.
