This morning, my 8yo daughter and I went to Java Joe's to get her a bagel. I decided to purchase six plain bagels and one drink. While the polite young lady was tallying up my order and taking my debit card to authorize, the six bagels looked over done, not well done, but definitely over done. I felt them. They were hard and extremely crispy with no dough left in sight. I asked the young lady if she had any other bagels that were less over done and she advised that they did not. I told her that I did not want to purchase these bagels and would like a refund. The obnoxious male owner, who was on the phone at the time, was standing next to the cashier. He said, "Ok. Goodbye." I simply said, I was not leaving until I received a refund. He ignored the customer on the phone and said (without looking up), "Well you are going to have to give me a minute." I just stood there waiting. I told the cashier in front of the owner, "It's unfortunate that he cannot admit these bagels are over done and has the gall to continue to sell them to his patrons." Please note the six plain bagels (with nothing on them) were $7.50 at Java Joe's. If you want great bagels with friendly service (smiles all the time), family friendly establishment to eat and enjoy without being harassed or put down, along with being extremely light on the wallet (six plain bagels for $5.40, that is $2.10 less that Crappy Joe's) then please drive the 4 miles or 7 minute drive from Grumpy Joe's to Pop's Bagels in Landing. I can attest, I will never go back to Cranky Joe's. The male owner needs to either stay in the kitchen away from the customers or retire. Horrible costumer service. The lady working at the ordering station made a rude remark about me asking for turkey bacon or sausage. She scolded me and said i should get the real thing and stop trying to be healthy because it's processed, not knowing the reasons I do not eat pork and just making an assumption. She then openly talked about me to the following costumers while I was still in the vicinity. All of that to say the terrible service is not worth it. I have been coming to this Bagel shop for the past 5 years when I visit NJ from RI. I always loved Java Joe's. I actually went there this morning. While I like the new location, there's something missing in the bagel. Even my family states this. It's just not as good as it used to be. We hope they find what's missing. The good selection of bagels, I feel, are the best around, the long lines go fast in the morning rush hours. The owners & staff are pleasant. Like that you can get a decent expresso et al, hard to find in these parts. Theres plenty of tables to grab & they always seem to be clean. Im excited to see the new shop! I really hope that one day Java Joes will have a paper cup option & get rid of the nasty styrofoam cups (horrible for our health & the environment especially for those that enjoy this every workday) Maybe with the new shop I will get a surprise & see paper cups. I have given them a few tries but in the end won't go back there and encourage everyone to find a much friendlier and more organized place to go. There bagels are good but the entire experience as a whole is terrible. From the moment you walk in it isn't apparent as to how the place works. They have there bagels on display for anyone to take. I walked out without getting anything after watching someone cough into there hand and use that hand to pick out bagels without using the wax paper provided. It was disgusting and the last straw. They also have people working there that are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered and so incredibly slow. When the woman is behind the counter she would rather chat with friends then ring up people so they can get out of there in a timely manner. Most people that stop in the morning are on their way to work and don't have time to hang out. If you want to chat with people I'm fine with that but ask them to step aside and keep the line moving. With almost everything in there being "self serve" there is no "in and out" when it comes to that place. read more

Update to my previous review. A revelation. Recently I've been back to Java Joe's twice and there appears to have been a turnaround with the owner. I found him to be polite and somewhat personable. This is a huge plus. It appears that they are now understaffed. Both owners and one other lady were toiling away to keep up. The place was busy and a welcome site. Always loved their bagels. However, recently observed a customer being berated by Michelle the owner. I'm not sure why, but I do know it was unacceptable in which the manner was handled. As a business owner, you need to act professional. This, was nothing of the sort. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The owner, Michelle was screaming into the face of the patron saying "how dare you", then threw the customer out and put her sandwich (that she purchased), on the ground, which I'm sure is a COVID violation. Violence does not belong in a restaurant where other patrons were exposed to this very angry behavior. Of course you can address the behavior of your customer, but do so in private. It was so vile, disgusting and even though I've personally never had a run in I will never go back due to that display of scarily, abusive behavior. read more

Called to place an order so we could social distance and not stand in the store with 15 other people and was told "we're open you have to come in to order" and hung up on. I've been here once and my review is based on that experience. I've driven past it plenty of times not thinking much of the place but inside is pretty large and clean especially compared to other bagel places. The idea of it is that you pick a bagel, which there are a variety of choices, and then you take it to the order station and tell them how you'd like it. Or if you don't want a bagel then they have platter dishes or deli options. The workers were nice and fast. The bagel I chose was and everything bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. It is a very soft fluffy bagel like other reviewers mentioned. Not the traditional NY bagel but I still realllllly enjoyed it. I also got a blended ice (comparable to a Frappuccino ) and it was really good as well. Overall very surprised and pleased with Java Joe's Bagels. read more

I like the bagels here, but the service is always very slow and the people are always rude. I recently had a very bad experience, where I called ahead for 2 dozen bagels because I knew it was a lot of bagels and that service is sometimes slow here. The woman who answered the phone was very rude and told me that they do not take over the phone orders because she is the only one working and overwhelmed and the customers who order ahead think that it is "all about them". Fine, I said I'll just place the order when I get to the store. I get to the store a half hour later and go to order my bagels and the same lady gives me a dirty look and says that she'll meet me over at the cash register after packing up the bagels. She meets me at the cash register and proceeds to berate me for not calling ahead for such a large order! I honestly couldn't believe the audacity of this woman. I was in the area visiting my doctor and after fasting and bloodwork I desperately needed a cup of fresh hot coffee and a bagel. Java Joe's was recommended to me. Upon entering I found a nice clean restaurant and on the left was a large bin loaded with a variety of bagels . You grab a bag and load up what you want and pay or if you only want one you grab a wax paper pick your favorite hand it to the girl behind the counter she will toast it, smear it, or make it into a breakfast sandwich. Java Joe's has a different breakfast sandwich for $2.25 mon - fri. I handed the girl my sesame bagel and asked for it to be lightly toasted with cream cheese. I was then asked if it was for here or to go.If you eat there the food is bought to your table.You just pay at the counter first. The coffee is kept across the room. There were several choices, i liked the pumpkin spice.There was a cappuccino machine but not freshly made. The coffee was good but I noticed a sign that said NO REFILLS! Most places nowadays allow free refills. I would definitely consider changing this! If you want people to come and stay . This place also makes sandwiches . I saw a sign for different types. That's where it's a bit confusing. Is this place a bagel shop? Is this place a coffee shop like the name implies? Java Joe's and if so, dedicate yourself to a big selection of really good coffees or, is this place a hybrid? Anyway,my bagel was very good. It arrived at my table lightly toasted just the way I like it. My coffee was hot and I mixed the dark coffee with pumpkin spice. Pumpkin spice you usually find only in the fall. I was happy to see it now. On the walls are pictures of the local state champions The 2011 Roxbury baseball team and the iconic Yankees. There was plenty of seating and free parking. Wanted to give this place a second chance in their new location. First you grab your own bagel, the amount of hands reaching in there cannot be sanitary, service was slow and forgot part of my to go order, when I got home there was no pepper and ketchup on my TEC which i requested. I love a bagel joint that has table service. LOL So, despite the VERY confusing order situation - the bagels and service is pretty good. Can't say that there is anything in particular that I should mention here - I just really liked the bagel. When you order your bagel. Step 1: Pick your bagel from the baskets on the left hand side. And, when I say pick - literally, get it with your hands. Step 2: Walk your bagel to the back of the store, get in line with all of the other confused people, and hopefully give your bagel to the staff in the back and ask for whatever you want on it, toast, schmear, taylor ham, cream cheese. The bagels here are delicious, especially if you get them when they are warm, so I give it a good rating. Their bagels are good, chewy and flavorful. I have gone here forever, but sometimes a thick layer of cornmeal on the bottom can be off-putting and uncomfortable on the palate. I ordered this wrap and if it was not for me opening it to put some mayo on It, I would have eaten this raw piece of chicken served in my wrap. My family comes from the restaurant business so understand mistakes happen but, I think they need to be more cautious of this cause I could have gotten really sick. When I called on the phone to let them know what happened they were nasty, and not understanding at all and then told me they would re make me and new one and I asked if I could order something with out meat cause at this point I think I have the right to be a little nervous, and they ignored that and remade me the wrap. I love this place so much ! Found it by accident after I promised my son to take him for bagel after he did his blood work not far from here , and Java Joe's bagel showed up on the map . And I've been coming here all the time now , even though I have 2 bagel places right next to my home in Chester , I will drive here because I crave it every morning I wake up . Blueberry bagel taste like actual blueberries with real berries in it , everything bagel amazing , French toast bagel amazing ! Everything toasted to perfection with perfect amount of spread on them .... and their coffees .... I will just drive here to get cappuccino since it's better than any coffee shop around here .... place is big , always table to sit outside or inside . Warm and cozy . First the good: Their bagels are awesome and I love their sandwiches. My husband loves their chili and he has never liked turkey chili before. Their regular coffe is solid and I really like their specialty drinks. Now the not so good: while the kids that work there are nice enough, but they could use a little more training. They also tend to be a little slow. My biggest issue is that it is a "pick your own" bagel setup, which at first sounds great because you can select your exact perfect bagel, but you have to trust that everyone is handling the bagels properly. I'm sure after all the pandemic limitations are lifted, that will need to change. Finally they are a little more pricey than other places, but generally I'm ok with it, as I like their offerings. read more

Dear Java Joe's, May you never be treated as rudely as I was today. Perhaps you should think twice why someone would be ordering to go. It may be a simple order for you that you can do very quickly; however, you were not the one taking a loved one to chemotherapy and ensuring they ate before their treatment (en-route). What seemed to you was something I could have waited in line for (you flat out told me you had 12 more important orders than mine/my business) and I should have waited in line. Simply stated when I paid - you inferred I wasn't good enough for you to take my order on line and the other orders were more important and my order was an inconvenience to you. I've given them multiple chances but they are all time worst bagel place I've ever been to. There customer service is terrible. Even the owners we're nasty to me on multiple occasions. I would rather go out of my way to go to a different bagel/deli for better customer service. Every time (Not exaggerating) EVERYTIME I've been to java joes they have screwed something up and I've never had ordered anything other than a cream cheese bagel. For example, the one day I went to pick up one order of like 5 different bagels all cream cheese(not too hard of an order)... well I picked them up, Got back to my job and one was missing. I called and they swore they made it and I said well I only have 4 here and I ordered 5.. maybe it got placed in someone else's order by mistake. . So after they argued with me on the phone for 5 mins about being right, they caved and told me to come back and get another. So I went back there for them to argue with me more and they told me that it's probably in my car under my seat(of coarse I checked to make sure) although for them to argue with me when they obviously messed up the order really upset me. When I got back, my co workers already opened up the bagels they ordered and one of them had a HAIR strand in it. Last time I ever went there. Everytime I go they have messed up my order or gave me a hard time about something... they are very unhappy rude people. I am very upset with there service. Great Bagel place always passed by and finally came in to try it, glad I did! I agree with the the reviews that it is a bit confusing how this shop works because it's 50% self serve. You pick your own bagels (it's like a bagel buffet stand). Then fall in line to tell them what you want with it cream cheese, egg, and bacon... if you are ordering a "fancy" drink you place your order when you hand in the bagel. If not they have self serve brewed coffee. You pay at the end and tada, enjoy! As for the food and coffee it's amazing I would go here again friendly service and place is clean and well maintained. This bagel shop has nice fluffy bagels that were priced well. You can pick your own bagel and then hop in line to get what you want on it. That was a bit confusing since we had never been there before. I liked that you got to pick your own bagel. They had a good variety of bagels including some different picks like Asiago, jalapeño, cheddar, French toast, and more. They also had the traditional bagels like egg, plain, poppy, everything, and sesame. While the coating on top of the bagels were generous, I would have like the coating more evenly coated on the back and front or the bagel. There was also a long wait, but usually that means the place is good. Overall fluffy delicious bagel with a long wait but worth it. read more

The staff is always friendly and more than helpful. With the current Covid-19 situation, they are very accommodating to serve you, even delivering to my car so I don't have to go into the store to get my order. Not really understanding how the overall score is so low when the majority of the reviews seem to be positive. Service can be a little rough sometimes when they're busy but it's been that way since covid. The bagels are unique, almost like a Kaiser roll met a bagel and had a baby. Their prices are good, their breakfast sandwiches are bomb, and their chicken salad is money. The coffee shop next door is also banging. Came into today to get a blueberry bagel with avocado and Taylor egg and cheese. My order was taken by a wonderful young man by the name of Tyler. He asked how my day was going and i said it wasn't that great. He then proceeded to tell me that my day was going to be fantastic after eating this bagel. After paying for my food with a grumpy, old, short, man. My food was handed to me by another young man by the name on Rob. He was sweet as well. All in all fantastic experience besides the cashier. I think this place has the best bagels in the area. The bagels are huge and most of the time still warm out of the oven. You get to choose your own bagel out of the bin, which I also like - and hand it over the counter to be prepared to your liking. The coffee is ok, I wish they had a darker blend rather than flavored but it's still good. The only thing (and a very important one) that prevents me from giving this place 5 stars is the customer service. I've been here about 10 times and I am never greeted - this is a breakfast joint, who wants to start their morning out like that? The first time I went in an ordered a bagel with cream cheese, I basically was scolded for not knowing to get my own bagel. I have also seen the owners speak to their employees very rudley, which should never be done in front of customers. One time I stayed there to eat with my 3 year old and everyone around me was being served at their table, but I was called up to get our food. I will still go there because I pass by daily on my way to work and the bagels are good - I hope to update this review in the future with a two additonal stars! read more
