We stopped at Java Jive for lunch and coffee on our way south, and as always, both were terrific. Friendly and helpful staff, wonderful ambience, fresh and carefully prepared food, great coffee, all at reasonable prices. Had a couple of the craft sandwiches plus chicken and wild rice soup. All were excellent. A definite stop for us every time we are nearby while heading south. Worth a detour. read more

This is my absolute favorite coffee shop. I love three hours away, but visit Hannibal often to see family. I always make sure to fit in a visit to Java Jive. It is In the historical district of Hannibal, in a lovely old building. The inside is warm and inviting. They have lots of comfortable seating...cushy chairs, sofas, tables for a few or for many. The furniture is vintage...and adds to the warmth, charm, and quirkiness. The coffee is delicious! And they offer baked goods, sandwiches, non-dairy milks and even gluten-free bread for sandwiches. First I'd like to note that the coffee was perfect and my wife's chai tea was too. Second, I appreciated the quirky-artsy atmosphere. But, I was repulsed by our salad made of slippery, gooey lettuce. We are on the last leg of our 10 hour drive today. The drinks were essential. So we're back on the road. I'll probably get my appetite back by the time we reach home. read more

I don't know if that's just a great promo line, but this place is definitely worth stopping into if you happen to be in Hannibal. A nice little coffee shop in downtown Hannibal. I had a chai tea latte and a couple of cinnamon pastries. The cinnamon pastries were good, but the latte tasted watered down. Also, all of it together was kind of pricy. Regardless, the environment was nice and the wifi was very solid. I recommend it. read more

Ordered coffee and lemoaid the coffee came in a cup only 1/4 full we had never been there so we did not know we had to add everything else. The 5 girls behind the counter were aloof. The wife had to ask multiple times to get some help. The lemonade came and there was no lemonade flaver no sparkle , it tasted like a glass of ice water. read more

Driving on the interstates the coffee choices and quality are normally pretty lacking. This is the second time I've stopped in Hannibal on my way from Kansas to Chicago and it is great to have a place to get a good double-espresso. Java Jive is what a coffee joint should be: big airy space with lots of places to sit and relax. Only about a mile off of the highway and very much worth it!! The coffee and atmosphere here is phenomenal! I make sure to stop by every time I am in the area. The muffins are more decadent than any I've yet to encounter, but they sell out fast! A flavorful veggie sandwich was welcome relief to this vegetarian on the road who was sick of fried potatoes in one form or another (the only option out there it seems!), and my macaroon was perfect - crispy on the outside, tender and moist in the middle. Wish I had snagged an extra for the road! Great, laid-back vibe inside, be sure to peek in the gift shop for locally made ceramics, soaps, and other knick-knacks. Have been here about a million times and never disappointed. If you go on a Friday you MUST get a homemade cinnamon roll. Also, the baristas are relay good at suggesting things you might like if you're in the mood for something different. And of course I'm a sucker for sandwiches named after artists! We visit this coffee shop every year on our annual trip to Hannibal to visit family. I have always loved the coffee and the general vibe of the shop. I still love the appearance of the shop and the plain coffee my husband ordered was delicious. That's where my positives end. We ordered four drinks including an iced coffee for which I specifically asked if the shop carried heavy whipping cream, the girl said yes. Our family sat to wait. After 15 minutes I noticed everyone behind us had already received their drinks. I asked the girl at the counter if perhaps our drinks had been forgotten--Which wouldn't have been a horrible thing, stuff happens, I just wanted to start the process if they had. With attitude she informed me "we have a lot of drinks to make. We'll get to it." Seriously? When our drinks came up later I asked if the iced coffee I ordered had the heavy whipping cream I ordered. Same girl says..."we don't carry heavy whipping cream here." I said, "oh, because the girl I ordered from said you did..." She never heard the end of the sentence because she turned and walked away from me. Sad to say, that was our last visit. Walked down the street to the Stam chocolate shop. Amazing service, delicious coffee. Our new annual stop will be there. read more
