This place has a lot going for it! The food is really good for starters! They serve breakfast and lunch (and ice cream). Plus, as their namesake...COFFEE! I got a cold brew and it was pretty good. The inside is full of books and art along with tons of spots to sit and enjoy. I love all the mixed tables and chairs!! It looks like they stole all the kitchen tables:chairs from my childhood. With soft blend of music and a TV playing to keep the mood engaging. Everyone was there for something but yet again maybe they were there to find something. My daughter and I are long time Java Jive fans. We have been coming here for years. So it pains me when I say, our last few trips have been disappointing. Our more recent trip, we ordered a whole Thai chicken salad, which we've gotten many times in the past. It came in a big bowl, but the serving size was significantly smaller. As if the salad serving size has been cut in half! Not much food at all... The butter pecan shaken espresso we ordered with cold foam, was given to us with no cold foam. The highlight of this meal was the honey lavender lemonade, although we were originally served a random carbonated drink, and had to go to the counter and explain that we didn't order a lotus and our ticket said honey lavender lemonade. We write this review out of love, not hate, because we miss the Java Jive we used to experience. We continue to come back out of hope we will get the same experience and joy as the past, but each time the experience gets a tad bit more disappointing. Also recurring issues with the lattes and espresso. They were excellent in the past but now the last year or so of espresso drinks we have gotten, the espresso tastes like the shots are being pulled incorrectly. It does not taste right. We picked out a few trinkets while we waited for our coffee order. Great little gift store inside. The cold rainy day could've had us hunkered down inside, but with only a day to explore we sat for a moment in one of the hodgepodge chairs and made a plan. LOVED the bacon cream cheese toast! The sausage quiche was very eggy, light on sausage, cheese, and flavor. My husband got the potato wrap. He thought he ordered the potato bowl, but something was miscommunicated. Oh well. He liked the wrap. You order at the counter, grab a table, and wait for a buzzer to let you know your food is ready. First time visiting Hannibal and I stumbled upon Java Jive and instantly obsessed. The inside was so cozy and filled with trinkets. The menu was awesome for a lunch spot. I stopped by here earlier today. It is a super cute location and such a wonderful aesthetic. It really gave me such a good vibe. The outside is super colorful and inside has so many knickknacks and books to buy. They have indoor seating at little cute tables also outdoor seating. And they only have street parking. There is so much stuff to look at inside. They have coffee, ice cream, pastries, soups and sandwiches. I ordered a vanilla iced coffee which was super good. I also ordered a soup of the day which was a cabbage roll soup. I absolutely loved it. They also gave me a little roll and some crackers. I had also ordered one of their apple crumb cream cheese slices. I am not a big fan of apple slices in my desserts but this was so good. The apple crumb on top and the crust of it was so bomb. My mother, my wife, and I saw this place last Saturday in between the Mark Twain Museum Gallery and the Mark Twain Boyhood Home so we stepped inside and ordered lunch and drinks. This place claims to be the first coffee house west of the Mississippi which we believed given how well kept their historic building is but the website says it was established in 2000. Anyways, there are plenty of amazing food and drink options and a great deal of comfortable seating as well. My wife and I shared a Red Velvet Latte and a a Cotton Candy Lotus to drink with a Turkey Chipotle Panini with an Orzo Pasta Salad on the side and a half and half of the Pollock Salad and Frida Sandwich. They also have great vegetarian options which my mother enjoyed. The service was fast and friendly. This is definitely a great surprise for such a small town and we highly recommend it for anyone coming to Hannibal or stopping by. read more

Java jive is a wonderful coffee shop that has a lot more than just coffee to offer. There are our paintings on the wall that you can purchase and local pottery to be sold. Loved the food and service. The atmosphere was eclectic and cozy. However, one of the employees must have had their kids sitting there while they were on the clock. One of the kids was on the phone and had it on speaker. They were talking with someone using crude and gross language. I asked them to turn it down or hang up. They kept talking and I walked up and asked again. When the kid started cursing at me, I went to an employee. They couldn't control their kids who kept cursing, throwing things and yelling even when they went outside. Shameful representative of this business for a first time customer. This was our first visit to Hannibal, and while we enjoyed walking through downtown, we actually came over to walk through Sodalis Nature Reserve. After our walk we stopped by Java Jive for lunch. I ordered the Harper Lee Wrap and was asked if I would like to upgrade the chips to a side salad. Ummmm, yes please. On a side note, I am always a little leery about side salads in restaurants only because there may not be anything worse than getting a small plate of iceberg bag salad and a plastic packet of Kraft dressing. But I figured, I was gambling with a chips substitution so I went for it. My gambling returns were pretty big this time as I received a healthy portion of leafy greens with some vegetables and homemade croutons in a take out box. Not to mention the delicious chipotle ranch dressing on the side that may have been house made. If it wasn't, I was fooled. The wrap was fresh and filling. I had no problem eating all of it, but I sure could've saved some for later. My husband got the Rockwell sandwich and thought it was delicious. The meats and cheeses were most definitely piled high and served in between two thick, fresh slices of bread. I also enjoyed browsing the items on display in the store area. Local artisans show off their wares and you can tell they are crafted with love. All in all, this was a great place to stop for lunch. I'm glad we did. The girls working the front counter were very personable which contributed to this 5 star review. Whoops. My husband reminded me to mention the chocolate chip cookie that he got for dessert.
