Love this place!!! The owner is amazing and so sweet and friendly, and also makes the best cup of coffee! The coffee beans themselves are high quality and so tasty, not bitter like other coffee shops. Plus, the place is decorated so nicely with plants everywhere..really such a vibe. There is an outdoor patio area where you can peacefully sit and drink your coffee or tea and read the paper or your favorite book, or just hang with ya pup. Really love it!!! read more

Finally some well roasted and brewed coffee in San Diego! This cozy little family owned coffee spot roasts their own small batch coffee brilliantly. All of their drinks are crafted and sourced with quality and flavor as top priorities. The ambiance is bright and comfy and the baristas waste no time in getting to know you and your preferences. Even their merch is high quality. Kudos to the owners who's attention to detail and dedication to quality shines throughout this simple neighborhood setup. read more

During this crazy Covid time my wife and I have been looking for local businesses. I did a search for coffee and the Java Garden popped up. Its a new coffee spot and it did not disappoint. My wife got the Iced Late and I got the Iced Caramel Macchiato. We both enjoyed the drinks. My macchiato wasn't overly sweet and had a nice smooth coffee flavor. My wife said her Late was smooth and not to acidic or have a burnt flavor. I also picked up the Vanilla Bean scone and Honey Almond scone. Both were really good and perfect for dunking into my coffee. Help support local businesses. Stop in and grab a cup. read more

We had been anxiously awaiting Java Garden opening and the wait was well worth it. They make a great cuppa coffee and their cold brew is amazing. The kids prefer their frappes over the corporate branded ones. Love having a local coffee shop within walking distance that provides great service and delicious drinks. read more

I came here for the first time earlier this week because I live just up the street. And wow. I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I just went again and I'm writing this review from the parking lot. This coffee is GOOD! My go-to is a vanilla iced latte. And they make one that is hard to beat. It's strong without being overwhelming. To make the experience even better, the owners are very friendly. During COVID, it's important we support our small and local businesses. Go give this place a shot! You won't regret it. read more

My son and I love stoping here once a week after our walk. My favorite is the Creme Brûlée tea and a Cranberry Scone and my son enjoys getting a smoothie. So glad this little gem is in our neighborhood. read more

Great staff and very tasty treats and beverages. Beautiful ambiance inside and outside on the patio!

I'm always one to support local businesses especially when the service is food, friendly and professional. One time I ordered a caramel latte, went home and realized I have a voicemail from the owner saying the coffee is on her next time because she forgot to add caramel. Honestly, I didn't notice because the coffee was good anyway. She was truly honest and kept her promise! read more

What a wonderful find in Serra Mesa! Love the ambiance and the coffee is amazing!! Definitely making this my new coffee stop

Makes a great latte with caramel. I am fussy and frequently doctor my coffee creations even from my favorite places. It did not need a thing here, it was perfect just as it was. Staff is friendly and I love that it is within walking distance! We will be back! read more

Phenomenal coffee- ordered their cold brew and was met with great service and it is clear they use unbelievably great beans. The owner told me they freshly roast in house and often. I live down the hill and my only regret of whole experience is I did not find this place sooner! Top two coffee experience in all of SD and I go way out of my way to try anything I can get my hands on. This place competes with my all time favorite. read more

I can't be more thrilled about this coffee shop. I live in the neighborhood and was happy when I heard it was coming. Whats even better is the coffee is THE BEST QUALITY you can find. Honestly, no creamer needed here, unless you prefer it. You can order fresh roasted coffee online and pick up in the store. The owners are delightful and the atmosphere of the shop is turning out to be quite lovely, a java garden for sure. My teenagers and their friends all agree that the fraps taste way better than anywhere else. Thank you for making Serra Mesa a little bit better! read more

What a lovely place! It is so peaceful and inviting. They just added a deck that is shady and a perfect place to read and enjoy your coffee. I plan to have my coffee "to stay" next time. They roast their own coffee, and they are very knowledgeable about coffee drinks so (as others have said) they can help you craft a drink that is perfect for you. It's worth going out of your way for, and if it's near your work or your home, GO THERE NOW! :D read more

If you ever need a quick coffee or snack, definitely stop by here. read more

I love this place! Their drinks are really really good and the coffee is STRONG! The price is reasonable and is around the same as every where else but I think it's worth a lot more since the coffee isn't diluted or weak tasting. They have plenty of non caffeinated drinks and non coffee items as well! I'm excited because it's right around the corner from my house and Serra Mesa finally has our own little coffee gem! Highly recommend. read more

We just moved to San Diego's Serra Mesa area and decided to check out this coffee shop. The barista and co-owner, Alena, is incredibly friendly and down to earth. Rather than just take your order, have you pay, and then send you to wait in the corner of the shop, she asks for your order, and immediately starts preparing it and talks with you as she prepares your coffee. Only once she is done and hands you your drink does she ask for payment. I'm not sure why, but I find this so refreshing. During a time when a lot of us feel dehumanized by masks and social distancing, it's nice to encounter someone who make sure you feel seen and known. She cleans as she goes and has the shop set up perfectly for safe interaction with customers, so you feel comfortable and relaxed as you converse and wait for your drinks. As for the coffee itself, it's delicious! During my second visit, I noticed the freshly roasted beans for sale, and I brought home a bag of the Guatemala bean to try. It's perfect! Great notes of chocolate, perfect for an everyday cup. I don't like overly acidic or fruity coffee, and this bag was exactly what I prefer. Very smooth and easy to drink. Consider me a "new regular" here, what a local gem! read more
