This is a fun and eclectic coffee house. Hot coffee, weird decorations, Nooky, Random items for sale like glass straws, and pastries. It was jam packed early Saturday morning ! My only disappointment here was there just was no room. No room to stand in line, any seating available was by the trashcan at face level literally, and a bunch of plastic chairs lined up out front outside with no tables. We got 2 different coffee drinks from here and both had no taste and not even sure what kind of coffee was in the drinks because couldn't taste the coffee either. Ended up putting a ton more sugar and other stuff to make it drinkable. Even then, we threw our drinks away before done. Sorry, not coming back. read more

I went to Java Dog when visiting Wilmington for a One Tree Hill Convention, and it was AMAZING! The service was friendly and fast. I had "Peyton's Prickly Pear Lemonade" and it was the best lemonade I have ever had. Two days later, I went back and got the raspberry lemonade and it was very good as well, but I preferred the pear one. I hope they have that kind when I go back! This place is super chill. Super close to CFCC. Great coffee and great atmosphere. The staff is really friendly and the pricing is pretty food. Their bagels are super bomb and they always have people sitting out front. This place has been here for a while and can sometimes be thought of as a hidden gem. The tables aren't that big if you want a bigger workspace, you might want to go somewhere else. Same for if you're looking for somewhere quiet. People are always coming in and out but the music is chill and you might meet someone cool. I wish it was open a little later, but can't complain. read more

This place is my one of my favorite coffee houses in downtown Wilmington! It's a very cozy and comfortable space. The coffee is excellent! I love trying all their different flavored coffees that they change out every day. Their Mocha Latte is to die for! I love walking here in between classes and getting coffee and a bagel. Java Dog is one of my favorite coffee shops in Wilmington the best part of Java Dog is that you can get coffee and a breakfast sandwich for around $5, actually the best part of Java Dog is hanging out with the puppies and people. Java Dog is the perfect place to bring your well- behaved mutt so you can get out of the house and still get some work done. I love their flavored coffee or fun roasts. I have a few things to address: The coffee is good when you get what you pay for. 20% of the time when you order regular coffee you get flavored coffee. Wtf orders flavored coffee? Thats what the syrup is for. Make your medium coffee price $2 or under, not $2.04. Put the cash register at the other end of the counter so the line doesn't block the door and the condiments. I go in at least 4 days a week and the prick of an owner never even acknowledges me, but he would if I were 17 and had tits! Play better music or none at all. Sell snacks from other sources other than Sams Club. Don't get me started on the owners dog who begs for food and is just down right scary to look at. Keep that dog at home; I can tell that I'm not alone on this looking at the customers faces when it creeps near. 3 stars because there are a couple of cool employees and the coffee is usually good, when its not flavored. Not to be confused with Port City Java (such a small town, so much JAVAHHHHHH), Java Dog is definitely the go-to spot in Wilmington for your morning and afternoon pick-me ups, whether that be in the form of, well, java, or furry friends. While I was admittedly disappointed by the lack of canine-centric puns, I was not disappointed by the actual dog to human ratio, which was near equally balanced. I was also not disappointed by the homemade pastries (or generally anything in the baked goods case) and I was pleased to see that while there weren't dog-friendly drinks (duh) there were dog treats for four-legged patrons. And while the coffee was a bit too frill-focused for my liking (think: butter pecan lattes, salted caramel frappes), the space was cute as and the service was even sweeter than the smiling pups. How cute! I really wish we had more cafes in Raleigh where dogs could come inside! I appreciate the ample patio-space in this city but when I walk alone I can only go inside and grab a coffee if I can find someone I trust to hold onto my pup! Java dog gets rid of that problem by letting dogs into the cafe! I'm not sure how they are allowed to (they must not make any of their food in house?) but I loved being able to stroll in and grab a coffee with my sister! I ordered the coconut chai latte and it was very good! Very coconut-y and came out nice and hot. My sister's gingerbread latte was very good as well! The girl at the front was helpful and full of good suggestions! The only thing we didn't get to try was the food, but since it probably wasn't baked in house I wasn't really interested. This is a very nice coffee shop in Downtown Wilmington with a great window looking out to the street. They had four sizes of coffee cups, which was nice. I ordered a small black coffee. All the available blends were dark roast, unfortunately. I got a Costa Rican blend. It was not very good; fairly weak, no aroma and poor tasting. oh well. I still liked this place and would go back for the nice ambiance and quality service, but I would hope they'd work on having some medium or lightly roasted options and trying some new beans or roasters. read more

During a visit to Wilmington, I bought a few postcards and wanted to stop and have a coffee and fill them out. I saw a number of coffee shops along the historic district and this one was one of the ones that was close to where I was and a local business owner recommended it. I stopped in, ordered a large coffee, it was promptly served and delicious. The staff was friendly and there were a number of small tables to relax at. It was nice to sit down, do some writing and enjoy my coffee. The coffee shop has a classic feel to it which fit well with the historic district. The coffee shop does cater to dog owners as a dog-friendly coffee shop. There were a number of dogs there. The only downside of my visit which was no fault of the staff or owners of the establishment was that one or two of the dog owners there had dogs that were not used to being around other dogs, and attempted to attack the other animals there. While their owners did a good job of restraining them, they made a terrific racket. Not just barking but the type of noises dogs make when they are trying to kill each other. After the third outburst in about 30 minutes, I decided to leave and finish off my postcards in an environment that offered more peace and quiet. This was my first dog-friendly coffee shop experience and I assume that, that is part of the environment. Overall it is a great place to get a cup of coffee. read more

I came in here on a Sunday morning for a cup of coffee. The place is not too big and has a small seating area on two levels. The wait was a little long because there was only one person working this morning but she was doing a great job keeping the line moving along. I ordered their pumpkin spice latte and it was very good! If you're looking for food, you're not to get much here, all they offer here is some muffins, bagels, scones and pound cake.
