Lots of non-New-York sandwiches like Cubans, gyros, etc, but over in the left corner were the classic Ruebens and pastramis. I went for the latter. A REAL NY deli usually has a few soups like split pea and chicken noodle and matzoh. No soups. Bummer. They had a half dozen sides - 3 kinds of potato salads and a few slaws. I went with the German potato salad. The drink option was spartan - they tossed a styrofoam cup at me and pointed to the soda fountain. The pastrami sandwich was OK for Texas. A SUPER pastrami sandwich on hard rye can get me moaning like Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally" -- only I don't have to fake it. The German potato salad was watery and bland - I should have gone with the mustard potato salad. Turnaround was on the slow side. Napkins = paper towel roll on table. Flimsy plasticware. The overall vibe was affordable utilitarian. I'll give the sandwich a 4, everything else a 3. Next time I'll drive the extra half hour to Cindi's.

Small, dark, and unapologetically retro, it feels like a sub shop that missed the memo on modern restaurant design and decided it didn't care. Honestly, respect. Now, the subs. Galligaskin's cuts their own meat and cheese in house and bakes their rolls fresh daily, which is the kind of thing that sounds like marketing until you take a bite and realize it actually matters.
