I haven't to this location for ages. After church it wasn't crowded like it used to be in the day. I guess Covid and inflation have really hit hard. Speaking of inflation, it cost $30 for a couple sandwiches and sodas for me and my kid. Yesterday it was $40 for a couple of burgers, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining. I do love the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich. The prices just hurt. Jason, check your ice cream cones - they were stale and chewy. The texture of the ice cream was icy and the chocolate came out really really slow. Sometimes the ice cream is really smooth and creamy, but alas not today and not here. The server didn't seem to speak English. Only Espanol. Nice old lady. And we were still able to communicate sufficiently to get what we needed with a smile.

Extra lettuce and tomato?

Ordered a Shelley Chicken Salad with extra vegetables. The person even repeated back to me; "extra lettuce and tomato". This is the sandwich. For $11?? Like really? Gotta wonder how much product waste they go through with this type of stinging behavior to the customers.

Where is the cheese I paid for?

I ordered a Half Sandwich and Tomato Soup. The soup was great and up to satisfactory. Sadly, the sandwich - not so much. I have added photos for others viewing. The first photo is the one off of the internet. The second and third are from me. Where's the cheese? I didn't order just bread. Sad. I wish I could get my money back! Or at least HALF!

Menu board with pricing ($8.79 managers special)

Food is typically on point, I come here pretty regularly. They are clearly suffering from the labor shortage and doing their best. My gripe is that they can't seem to figure out a system for the line while the cashier's are painfully slow. You walk in and you're instantly in a crowd of people who have no idea where the line starts. Cashier's do nothing to help and everyone starts their experience there incredibly irritated, regardless of how the food tastes. Also, while not a big dollar difference... It is incredibly unethical to say the price is one number and then charge a different amount. I've brought this up to a cashier on my list visit... Today I was charged $9.09 for something on the menu at $8.79 (managers special). You should care about ripping off your customer even if it's only 5%. Both of these are management issues that should never happen and are very easily fixed, but haven't been. I do however, have a consistently tasty meal every time I come.

Try the new lobster chowder!

We were ultimately shown to a table directly in front of the kitchen. As we sat there, I gradually began to notice some troubling things. Another Asian group was seated at a table next to one of the kitchen entrances. Later, when they finished their meal and left, another Asian family was seated at the same table. In addition, a Black family was seated next to another kitchen exit. A woman in that group asked to be moved to a different table. The food itself was very good, and the server who took care of us was pleasant and kind. My concern was specifically with the way the host assigned tables. Seeing this seating pattern repeated even though other tables were available made me strongly feel that race was influencing the seating decisions. I found the experience very upsetting. Of course, it is up to the restaurant to decide how it will assign tables in the future. I would be glad if this experience prompted the restaurant to recognize the issue and make changes. On the other hand, if nothing changes, I will consider this to be part of the restaurant's character. I am leaving this review to share what I personally saw and experienced.

It been a Houston institution since 1999. Walking into K&G's can be quite overwhelming on the first visit. There's just so much to see, be it Autographs, Caricatures, Playbill's or their delicious cakes, treats, breads, and Pickles. However, the real overwhelming experience is the menu. Anything you could possibly want is listed on the menu. I recommend looking t it online before coming, just so you can have an idea of what you might want to eat. My dad(96) and I are frequent visitors and we always seem to get the open faced roast beef, which is stacked high and there is always left overs for eating at home the next day. The pickles are a fan favorite for me, and I tend to devour several of them. This visit I decided to try the fried fish sandwich (made with halibut) with onion rings and french fries and my friend, a Houston native who had never been here, went for the Schleppy Joe with onion rings. These sandwiches were stunning and wonderful. I saved half for to go so I could have their classic New York Cheesecake... the best in the city. The entire dining experience was top notch, exactly the experience I always have. Ziggy knows how to make the customers dining experience an "experience", I have never had a bad one, from the service down to the cleanliness of the entire place. In this review I want to give a special shout out to Beverly, our server, as she was amazing and whom I recommend. She practically read our minds and was an absolute star. Thank you, Beverly, for the fine service that was speedy with a smile!

I mean my pocket book is probably better for it because I want to buy the whole store but honestly I've been missing out. The place is cute and welcoming from the corner sign on the building to the moment you step in- bright, inviting, great displays so you know where to go. You can't get lost in here with the signage, but you can't definitely get lost in the aisles with all the great, unique choices. The ready food display has so many Mediterranean treats, some I've had before some I've never heard of and everything I tried was amazing. We got the cabbage rolls and Armenian veggie dolmas. Great flavor, both specific items I haven't had before. Nice citrus, spiced flavor to these. I'd say they're have to try items. Not only found jarred tomato paste, which I've been on the hunt for but they had choices in this category and that's another first for me. Will have to go back and try the others. Also got the cured Serrano ham -amazing. And I thought the prices were going to be insane having a spot right in the middle of the city and nope- pleasantly surprised for my goodies, great prices even less than some of the other stores I frequent in the suburbs. I'll be back again and again and again until I try the whole store lol. Definitely give them a try, you won't regret it

They offered an assortment of goods and items that are great for gifts and for your own home. I can always find something of interest in the store. I also love that they tend to carry items that are a little more boutique and local which makes it fun to browse. A lot of people visit for the barbecue. If I recall, when they first were serving BBQ it was a smaller, more limited time and they've since extended those hours. When visiting there is plenty of street parking in the area. They have expanded the seating inside since when they first opened which is nice for those not looking to takeaway food. Food & Drink - 4.25* The counter for ordering is in the back. I definitely recommend getting an assortment or a plate. Sausage and brisket are both solid. The sides are good too. I did notice the quality maybe dipped a little as the hours expanded, but it's still a very good option to some of the nearby establishments down the road or over in the North Main area that tend to have giant queues. When I was working downtown we'd swing over here quickly for a lunch. Feel free to grab anything to drink from the coolers as well if it catches your interest. Service - 5* Solid. We've spoken directly with the owners when visiting and it's evident they care deeply about their store, their customers, and the community. Definitely support your local businesses!! Cost - 4.5* Always subjective. I think for what they offer, how clean and well organized the shop is, it shows. They keep prices approachable. Overall - 4.5* Personally, I think it's a great balance of quality, convenience, and an assortment of goods that make it interesting.
