Beautiful items but just had a terrible experience there. The owner sent the wrong size bras to me - I sent them back and she agreed to exchange but then charged me shipping for all three transactions, which was not an insignificant amount. Having shopped at a number of boutiques in Europe and the States selling the most exclusive lingerie, i was fully prepared to like Jaryam. After all, i am familiar with and own a large selection of high-end lingerie from Nina Ricci, Malizia, La Perla, and Lise Charmel to Simone Perele, Aubade, and LeJaby, acquired from countries whose languages I barely spoke. (Yes, lingerie is my vice.) It is enough that they are beautiful and a piece of art, at least from my point of view. Yaryam sells exquisite European merchandise. However, confident in their customer base, their customer service to perceived window shoppers could sorely use improvement. Also, they haven't a website that one could pursue before visiting. They will tell you they don't want or need that kind of marketing. Be prepared to buy something -- anything -- by your second visit to the shop, or you will be summarily dismissed without consideration as was my experience. Not sure what I could do if they did not have my size, or perhaps, the style was not to my liking. A shop without a web presence priding themselves on word of mouth.... I can't say that my experience with Jaryam was a positive one. Fortunately, there are a great number of professional shops in the area as well as internet retailers providing positive customer service worthy of my money. read more

I guess this place is fine, but for such a posh storefront and expensive prices, it just doesn't live up to my expectations. The brand name selection is fine, but the size/style selection is lacking. When buying lingerie, it's best to buy one bra with 2 or 3 matching panties (Believe me, I have bought lots of lingerie. I know the best strategy.) I am a normal size. But I can never find tops AND bottoms that fit me, and when i do, not enough of them. Points off. Also, for some reason I always feel pressured in here, like she's waiting for me to buy something. I don't know if it's the personality or the layout...I guess some combination of layout + selection + personality makes it not an ideal browsing store for lingerie, and lingerie is fun to browse! Points off. Good: the discount baskets, which have great deals on big names. Good: Sizes labeled with very pretty little colored ribbons: blue for B cup, pink for C, etc. Lovely! Jaryam is my new favorite place for both beautiful and comfortable lingerie. Maryam is so sweet and helpful and has an amazing selection of bras, bathing suits, and cover-ups! She really listens to her customers and is great at picking out things for you to try on that you normally wouldn't pull for yourself but look AMAZING on!! I am kind of puzzled by the negative comments as I have had nothing but positive experiences at her shop. Who needs a website when you can stop by and get an expert's opinion? I also have never purchased any lingerie online... definitely something you want to try on first. And if she doesn't have a size, style, or color you are looking for don't hesitate to ask because she will special order it for you! read more

I stopped in on a Wednesday evening and had a lovely experience. I have found it very difficult to find larger bras that were pretty, comfortable and effective at serving their function. Maryam kept the store open late to accommodate my visit and was very nice and informed in helping me find the perfect bra. The lady and I went shopping for certain unmentionables. I would not go there again. What's crazy is this store must live by word of mouth. And here I am taking time on my Sunday to make sure people know how bad an experience I had at her shop. We were met with surly service, and almost a disdain for my presence as the male half of a couple. In fact, the owner banished me from being near the fitting rooms on the premise that I might make her one other customer uncomfortable. But instead of letting me into the fitting room (which seems like it would have given everyone privacy) the owner's solution was my lady ought to come out into the store to show off each piece! Its a small store with a window onto the street and anyone walking by could see in. Ridiculous. The owner makes it abundantly clear she doesn't like the idea of couples coming in. Top it off that she had her daughter and a mob of pre-teen girls squealing in the backyard with the door open It just ruined what I hoped was going to be an intimate shopping experience. read more

I pass this store all the time on the bus going to Trader Joe's and I stopped in the other day because I am obsessed with nice lingerie and it is definitely something I splurge on. The selection here was nice enough, but I personally have had much better experiences at Saks, Nordstrom, NM, and other select boutiques. Maybe it is simply the customer service was lacking, I am used to getting bras altered and having staff truly help me find what I need, even if it takes hours. When you are paying over 150 for a bra and 90 underwear, that should be expected! I would rather take my money elsewhere. read more

While VS is for the masses - Jaryam won't appeal to everyone. They only carry real high end lingerie such as La Perla and Aubade. If the cost of some of these pieces gives you heart palpitations - take note that on the right of the store are a bunch of woven bins that carry majorly discounted items for several sizes. They also carry a selection of bikinis and cover-ups that should probably be going on sale soon since the summer is coming to a close. The shopkeepers are really friendly and very helpful. On display in the back is a lingerie set by ID Sarrieri which is encased in glass and worth worth seeing just for the craftsmanship alone. Like most things in the shop though, it wasn't cheap - going for over $500 when I was last there. read more

I took time off work to make the trek out to Georgetown to go by this place on a Thursday before they close (at 6). When we arrived at the store, there was a sign on the door that said "back in 5" so we waited. It was that record-breaking heat day earlier this week and it was more than 100 degrees outside. We sat in the shade for five minutes, but the employee had not returned. It was too hot, so though we were not hungry, we went to get gelato down the street. After we finished our gelato, we walked back up the street (mind you, it was HOT) and though it was only 5:20, there was now a closed sign on the door. Far too unreliable a place for customers to make the trek to Georgetown. read more

I spent a wonderful late afternoon in this shop back in January. I had intended just to pop in, but there were dresses on sale in the back (lovely) and her selection of lingerie is lovely. It is expensive, but every once in a while, it is so worth the treat. That afternoon I was a bit rushed as I was meeting my husband for our anniversary dinner. Jaryam is a boutique Lingerie shop in Georgetown. The store offers fairly high end lingerie and the shopkeeper was pleasant and helpful. The biggest problem I had was the lack of selection. It appears that the shop caters mostly to petite women. My girlfriend is reasonably thin but curvey with a DD cup size. Though they were able to find a bra that fit her, there was only one that did, and not in the style or color she was interested in. Unlike a previous reviewer I did not have a difficulty with the owner. Though male, she was willing to let me sit in the chair next to the fitting rooms and to peak in on my girlfriend after she had tried something on. I tried to be respectful and non-intrusive when other women were in the shop, but I'm also older, so she may have cut me some slack. Regardless, the experience wasn't bad, but wasn't stellar either. If you're a petite woman and can afford higher end lingerie, you might enjoy the personal service you'll get at the shop. read more

Maryam is incredibly patient. In my first visit I must have tried on 50 bras....in my second visit, I simply went in to pick up another of my favorites. I felt 100% comfortable with the experience and have recommended the shop to numerous friends. I have passed this store several times while walking to work and have found the pieces displayed in the window very tempting, so i finally decided to pop in the other day. There is a beautiful selection of clothing from some more obscure european designers, but I was in for some sticker shock. Something like $400 dollars for a jersey dress, $300 for a simple cotton jersey turtleneck!! Of course I had to say that those were some rather high prices for jersey, and the owner quickly snipped at me that it is the quality. I would certainly hope and expect so at those price points. I tried to make conversation while perusing the racks, but the owner was not interested in me. I guess she assumed that since I commented on the price, that I wouldn't be able to afford anything. She really had no way of knowing how much money I make, other than being rather judgmental, and little did she know that I very well may have purchased some pieces from this place. I quickly tried on a draped vest off the rack, and saw a stunning winter jacket that I was dying to try on, but the owner stopped me saying that she really must go that she and somewhere to be. I asked if I could just have a minute to try the coat on in which she responded, "NO, I really need to leave. If you'd like to make an appointment and come another day that'll fine but I need to leaVE NOW." I told her I don't think I'd be returning after her treatment, and she just said "FINE. Your Choice." SERIOUSLY? I was appalled. She was not apologetic at all. If she really had some place to be she could've told me when I walked in... I would expect a boutique with such a limited selection, and such high price points would have stellar service, not pushing potential clients out the door. Being someone who once worked several years in retail, I know that when people are paying a little more, they are also paying for a stellar customer service experience. QUALITY alone does not warrant $300 turtlenecks. For the people that find these type of reviews surprising it is likely that the owner saw dollar signs in her eyes when she met you, but when she judges people that may not look like they have a lot of money based on what they are wearing on that particular day, she is very quick to dismiss you. If you are looking to just throw your $$ at a very rude elitist, this is your place, but if you are looking for exceptional service, along with exceptional pieces I suggest taking your business elsewhere, and there are plenty of elsewheres. read more

I am not sure it was the owner who was at the store today, but the woman certainly was very unpleasant and completely lacked customer service skills and expertise. She simply turned her back and continued to (pretend) to be busy while ignoring me, after I told her that the product she had shown me was not what I was looking for. Why in the world is this store in business? Much better customer service, prices and selection at Sylene in Chevy Chase. The ladies there are polite, considerate and knowledgeable. Very personalized shopping experience, I felt like a diva! I am so glad I wandered into this boutique, the experience in this store was as much a pleasure as the lingerie itself. The owner asked me my size, what I was looking for, then showed me the pieces that she thought I would like. She also helped with the sizing and fit. Everything was so beautiful, it was hard to choose. She helped me narrow it down to two pieces that I absolutely adore and gave me a discount of $40 off. Know that it is a high end European store, so it was still pricey with the discount. French music was playing on pandora which complimented the French lingerie in a genuine, non-kitschy way. It all just worked. I lived in France for two years and often lament the lack of quality shopping experiences here in the states. This boutique has the French touch. It was a delightful shopping experience. I am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the lace, it's a new luxury in my wardrobe. read more
