Earlier this year, my engagement ring was cleaned and repaired in the store -- the only time it ever left my hand. Months later, the diamond looked dull and cloudy, so I returned to ask about upgrading. The owner offered me a shockingly low trade‑in value, which made me seek a second opinion. A jeweler in New York removed and inspected the stone in front of us. What we learned was devastating: the diamond in my ring was not the original one we purchased. The measurements didn't match, the laser inscription was gone, and the stone was cracked. The financial loss hurts, but the emotional betrayal is far worse. After decades of loyalty, admiration, and trust, discovering this was heartbreaking. I'm sharing my experience so others can protect themselves.
