DO NOT PUT YOUR OWN STONE IN A SETTING FROM JARED!!!!
This is somewhat of a long story, but if you are even considering adding your own stone to a setting purchased from Jared I very much recommend reading this to the end. Recently my diamond (that I have had for over 20 years) fell out of my setting purchased from Jared. I purchased the setting about 10 years ago and got the lifetime warranty, I have been diligent getting ring inspected every six months. A little over a year ago the jeweler at Jared said that they needed to change the prongs in order to make sure my stone was secure. Of course I trusted them and allowed them to change prongs. When I picked up my ring the prongs were really high and I asked them why, their answer was that showing the bottom of the diamond would make it appear to be more brilliant. I thanked them and went on my way. Well, when my stone fell out I was devastated and my first call was to the store that changed my prongs, they said they were not responsible because the stone was not purchased there. And they were not willing to stand behind their work even though only 4 months prior their jeweler had inspected my ring and said the stone was secure AND the prongs had been replaced by THEM! INSANE, the manager of the store also said we were out of luck. Fortunately I had my ring insured as well, so I moved on with them. Apparently insurance companies give you two options (or mine did) I could either accept a stone from their buyers (who can get stones much cheaper through direct markets) or they would cash me out based on the price they could get an acceptable stone. Obviously I do not have access to direct buyers and could not replace the stone I had lost with the money they were willing to pay me out. So, I sent them my setting. The first thing they do is a damage report to determine what happened. They found that the prongs were not damaged at all and that based on the dimensions of the diamond the prongs were too high and this is what caused my diamond to be lost. YES, Jared's fault! My insurance company replaced the prongs and added a new diamond in, sent it back and it was no where near the quality of the diamond I had lost. So, I returned the stone to insurance company, they only give you two options before cashing you out. Again, devastating and this nightmare continues. At this point I am so angry and I now understand that Jared changed the prongs out and would do absolutely nothing about it, not even apologize. So, I found the corporate customer service number and filed a complaint. I provided all documentation to prove they had changed the prongs AND inspected it within 6 months. Jared Corporate reviewed everything and said sorry, we didn't get to inspect it and you changed the mounting so you are out of luck. When we reminded them that we called them FIRST they said well you called the store and should have called corporate. How in the world was I supposed to know this, I mean if this is the way it goes shouldn't the manager of the store where we purchased the ring AND had it inspected told us? So, completely defeated and still without any resolution I said ok, I now understand that you don't stand behind your work please let me return my setting. There is no way I would want to purchase another stone and put it in the same setting that they have proven they will not honor their work or inspections on. They said we will open another ticket. Again we wait, couple days later they call and said that they have decided they will not allow us to return my setting. This is corporate I am dealing with, so there is no where left for me to go. I mean they would not do anything and tried to make me feel like we were at fault. THIS IS TERRIBLE. I am now left with a setting I won't put a diamond in and no where near enough cash to replace the diamond I lost. And this doesn't even account for the sentimental value that can never be replaced, this is the diamond my husband proposed to me with over 20 years ago. I thought I was covered, I diligently followed Jared's inspection guidelines and also had it insured. You would think the least Jared would do is be sympathetic, allow me to return my setting and give me a discount or something on a replacement diamond that I would buy with my own money! They are a terrible company. If your husband "Went to Jared" return it as fast as you can, because they do not honor their workmanship and have ZERO customer service. read more
