I have the Halcyon 250. It's incredibly slow and under-powered. Getting up to 50mph on a flat road is nearly impossible. It needs constant maintenance and repair. The bike is often hard to start, stalls constantly, brakes are weak, and the pegs have broken twice. The first two batteries were defective. It looks good, gets a lot of compliments, and is easy to handle. But I don't recommend it unless you are too old to ride anything bigger, have deep pockets, and have the time and experience to work on it. Like Dwight, I have been a fan and follower since they debuted their 50cc water-cooled 2 Stroke. I lucked into a visit last year, as Goshen was only 30 miles from a family reunion. And they were having a Discovery Day that weekend. I couldn't make the big party, but I showed up before lunch on Friday and met a bunch of great people. I toured the shop, learned some history, and then someone gave me a set of keys and said "please don't break it." I rode for an hour or so, but was sold before I ever got on it, to be truthful. I started a build sheet. For whatever reason, I didn't put down my deposit for nine months, but 6 weeks after that, I was riding my own Halcyon. And on my very first ride, people were asking about the bike IN TRAFFIC! While we were moving! Introverts need not apply, as everyone wants to take a look and have a chat. Janus Motorcycles - 2019 Halcyon, now housed in The Old Dominion. - Motorcycle Dealers Near Me - Goshen, Indiana

I have been following Janus Motorcycles now for several years. The videos on YouTube and the photos on the web about their beginnings, their shop, and their custom hand-built motorcycles are vastly understated. After salivating all these years and finding the cottonmouth unbearable, I finally decided to fly up from Atlanta to South Bend and then drive to Goshen for one of their Discovery Days. I was completely floored by the quality of the Halcyon, the Phoenix, and their newest model, the Gryffin. What is actually more impressive is the passion of the Janus staff about their bikes. The first person I met when I walked in their shop was Richard, one of the founders of Janus. Then I was greeted by Jaclyn, Grant, Christa, and Ryan. Gobbling down a doughnut and swigging a cuppa Joe, I tried to get my hands unsticky so that I could feel the bike paint and the leather as well as take copious photographs. The folks there are Janus Motorcycles are awesome! They ran through how Janus began and explained what separates their motorcycles from the mass production bikes. We walked through their shop with each of them showcasing each area of fabrication and even describing how each process evolved to manufacture a motorcycle that can become a collectors item for future generations. After the tour, we donned our riding gear and mounted a pony to zip around Goshen. They weren't joshing when they said that their bikes would put a smile on your face! I had originally went up to get a British racing green Halcyon which has cruiser style geometry. That's what I jumped on first. Midway on the test ride, we pulled over and all switched bikes. I got on a Phoenix (cafe racer) next which was outfitted with the sport handlebar option. Grant had mentioned earlier that it was like riding a bottle rocket, and he was so right. I kept wanting to zoom by Richard who was acting as road captain for the test ride groups. The Phoenix was the most nimble and responsive of the models. After the third group finished up, they let me go around the block on the Gryffin which is a scrambler. The knobbies make it a little more twitchy, but it was a fun ride. The riding geometry is not as upright as the Halcyon, but it's nowhere's close to being in a 3/4 or full tuck position like you want to do when on the Phoenix. After an exhilarating time on the bikes, we all walked over to the Goshen Brewing Company which had excellent food and liquid refreshment! Before I drove my rental back to the South Bend airport, I put a deposit down on a Halcyon that will be vintage red with cream pinstripes and have a black leather saddle. A benefit about going to Discovery Days at Janus is that you only have to put down half of the normal required deposit. You also get a free upgrade. I opted for the full LED light package. There aren't any Janus bikes in Georgia at the time of this writing, but 2 Gryffins were in the shop getting ready for shipment. My Halcyon should be down here next Spring, but I hope to run into the owners of those other Georgia Janus bikes someday. If you love motorcycles, you will want to go see the Janus folks yourself. You will have a wonderful time! And if you get one of their bikes, you will no doubt experience the TLC they pour into each of them.
