When I started looking into buying a moped, I found plenty of them available for sale...from people I've never met, who may or may not have maintained their machine well. Then I ran across a moped from The Crypt...a 1984 Puch Maxi LS. The confidence I got from buying from a shop run by someone who clearly knows his way around a moped and enjoys working on them made it an easy decision, and the bike is running great. Josh has been available to answer my questions and give me advice, which is much appreciated. If you are looking for a fun summer ride that'll also get 90mpg, look no further. Don't do it! These…read morepeople will sell you a scooter that's been shipped from China, thrown together as quickly as possible (No PDI done!) and put it on the lot to sell to you. Look at the mileage on these bikes; if there's less than 5 or 6, those miles were ridden by test drivers. Ricks does not bother to road test their bikes after un-crating! Don't buy one of these things, or you'll be sorry. If you do buy one, or have purchased one elsewhere, don't even think about bringing it in for any repairs. These people are absolutely, positively and without a doubt, sub-standard in their mechanical aptitude. They'll let a high-schooler work on your bike (incorrectly, I may add - as in not performing the work you asked to have done) and you may not get all of your parts back. Also, don't let them sell you into one of their big bore kits. Not only is it against the law to ride, without a license, but, they will tell you one thing and give you another. Their 80cc kits are actually 72cc's. Ricks doesn't bother with actual specifications. Whatever is on the Chinese parts box is what they will tell you it is. Simple mathematics will tell you otherwise. In a nutshell, stay away from this place. It may look clean and they sell a lot of bikes but, how many of those are safe on the road, not to mention legal? Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable dealer, such as North End Cycle. Don't waste your money at Ricks. You'll be sorry, otherwise. I certainly am! I give them a 1 star rating. And that's only because I can't take any away!

It looks good, gets a lot of compliments, and is easy to handle. But I don't recommend it unless you are too old to ride anything bigger, have deep pockets, and have the time and experience to work on it. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) gives the company its lowest rating of F for failure to address complaints about mechanical and warranty issues.

I toured the shop, learned some history, and then someone gave me a set of keys and said "please don't break it." I rode for an hour or so, but was sold before I ever got on it, to be truthful. I started a build sheet. For whatever reason, I didn't put down my deposit for nine months, but 6 weeks after that, I was riding my own Halcyon.
