Hands-down, our best dinner in Amsterdam. The staff was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent recommendations and the dinner was amazing. The fish of the day was a cod that was prepared incredibly well. We also tried the turbot fish main dinner entree. Overall, the restaurant staff, the surroundings, the menu, and the meal itself were extraordinary. So good!! Took a last minute trip to Amsterdam for a 3-day weekend. On my last night, I was on Google looking for a worthwhile place to have dinner, and came across Jansz. Called to book dinner for that night, for 1.. didn't expect them to accommodate, but surely they did, at the kitchen counter looking at the open kitchen. I got the Lobster Risotto and am so please. Creamy, great portion of risotto, could have been a tad more lobster.. but it's understandable :) I also ordered a side of sautéed spinach, which was steamed in garlic and was so so good! Definitely recommend adding a veggie to the order. I ordered the Chocolate Fondant, which was recommended by 3 different people that work here. Quote, "not like I don't like our Creme Brûlée, but you can get that anywhere". And oh my, he was right. So, so good!!! Get it!! (Don't care as much about ambiance, the food was so good) - But for the sake of this review.. yes. Very vibey, dim and candle lit. Right on the canal, in case you get a table by the window. I sat at the counter, looking into l the open kitchen, which I enjoyed (gave me something to do while solo dining). Staff is super nice, and they work together, which I prefer versus when you get 1 waiter.. and if you want something, you have to wait for that single person.. Best restaurant I've been to in Amsterdam (not like I've been to many..). Definitely try to make it here for an amazing dinner, right on the canal. We stayed at the Pulitzer and were too tired to go elsewhere for dinner one night. We had walked by the restaurant on the way back to the hotel/our room and it looked 85% full. Before we went to the restaurant, I called the hotel to ask if the [hotel] restaurant had any availability. They said it was fully committed. So, we walked down to the restaurant and asked the same question, and they seated us immediately. This was close to closing time. Pricing is ok, service was polite. Everything around us was definitely a tourist and most people sounded American. I was sick of eating meat so had a caprese salad appetizer, which was well sized. It was under seasoned. Dessert - we got ice cream and I think their kitchen is on the 2nd floor. By the time we got it it was very melty. Overall, good for a convenient bite. Horrible!!!! Made a reservation IN PERSON at the hostess stand. Came back following day for reservation only to find that they "didn't have" our reservation and the only "table" they could provide was at a kitchen counter in the corner. I've had the hanger steak with bearnise sauce twice. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I was left wanting more! The hanger steak was presented on a bed of sautéed onions and fresh Enokitake mushrooms. Overall the service is fantastic due in part to the friendliness of the wait staff. If possible I recommend making reservations because they can fill up but even arriving without a reservation, we were seated within minutes! read more

The fella and I had dinner at Jansz our last night in Amsterdam. It's located near the fantastic Jordaan neighborhood, attached to the Pulitzer hotel. The ambiance was upscale-ish yet casual, the service was impeccable, and the food was plated beautifully and tasted SO good. I ordered the vegetables with goat cheese and the orecchiette with truffles, and my husband had the salmon with a side of fries. We shared the chocolate fondant (do not pass it up!) and the Dutch custard. Both were delicious but we could have gotten away with sharing one dessert as they were larger than expected and very rich. We each had a glass of good wine and we were brought mini baguettes before our entrees were served. While it wasn't the cheapest dinner we had, it was reasonably priced and we're so glad we gave Jansz a try. read more

My partner and I came here yesterday for our date. Arrived 45 min earlier and had a glass of wine at the Pause - outdoor terrace of he hotel. At the time of the dinner we wrapped up and were seated promptly. We ordered: - tuna tartare with quail egg - cauliflower with wild mushrooms - scallops - I asked them to be my entree - Dover sole - tiramisu - cocktails - more wine Total with tip was €170 for two people. Bottled water was €7 - seems a bit too steep don't you think? Service was nice but felt rushed, as people were running around in the dining room. My favorite was the cauliflower with wild mushrooms since it was something I haven't tried before (I think) Least favorite - steak tartare. It was so finely minced, and again we both agreed that we had better. I usually avoid dining in the hotels but this restaurant was a pleasant surprise. I would go back to Bussia (on the same block) before I come here. read more

This restaurant partners with The Pulitzer hotel, do guests can charge their meal to the room. You definitely need a reservation, unless you are willing to wait for a table to open outside. This would be a fantastic restaurant for a business dinner or romantic date. I dined during dinner and ate st one of the sidewalk tables- wonderful for people watching. I order the Beet & Carrot Salad and the Lobster Risotto - both of which were delicious. I forgot to take a photo of the salad, but it was artfully presented and tasted fresh and delicious. The risotto was good, but not great- parts of my lobster seemed a bit undercooked which was a turnoff for me. Overall, I'd definitely return to try other menu items. read more

Really liked the ambience, it felt like we were on a holiday in Paris.. The marble setting of the tables and floors, the pink curtains, the green velvet sofas, the English speaking staff. It didn't feel we were in Amsterdam. The staff was super friendly and quick, so not Amsterdam like. The food was sublime! You get so much for your money. We ordered the wagyu sandwich, it was so huge and very specially served. We even got to meet the chef Cassidy Hallman. When we got our coats, we got offered homemade peppermints for refreshment. Wow, it was a combination of a mint candy and a chewing gum, wonder where I can buy this. A very nice place to have lunch, celebrate something or to have a business meeting. read more

A peaceful lunch oasis on kings day 2022. Totally enjoyed the crab toast appetizer, and the starter champagne.

Came here for lunch during the week and it was very good! The club sandwich was delicious- very balanced/fresh flavors, bacon was great and not overpowering. The poached eggs on avocado toast with spinach was also good. Wouldn't recommend getting the Caesar salad as it was incredibly salty, we got fried avocados on top and they were pretty good but a bit salty. French fries were great and super fresh. It was pretty empty when we came but interior is nice, definitely worth going to! read more

Stayed at the Pulitzer for the last five days - had breakfast there 4 out of the 5 - and thoroughly enjoy it - till this morning. Near immediately after having the Brioche, coffee with cream & a bite of a mini-quiche I began to exhibit symptoms of food poisoning. I've just landed in Toronto to connect back to LA. and the pain I've been in these last 7 hours was excruciating. Again - mostly a positive experience but be wary. read more

Just had dinner here. We're staying at the hotel so expected it to be expensive and snobby. Wrong !! This place was laid back, charming, great soul music and delicious. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and cost 24 euros. My husband had a ribeye which was delicious. The menu isn't huge, but you should find something to your liking. After having their wonderful breakfast during our stay consisting of a fabulous selection of cheeses and charcuterie; fresh fruit that included berries and melons, the best oatmeal on the planet (order off the menu), we decided to try dinner on the last night of our stay. Started with the pea soup and it was a bit bland but fresh. I chose a Caesar Salad with chicken and requested no anchovies but it was served with a fresh anchovy despite my request to omit it. The chicken was very flavorful but the salad was very lightly dressed. Server was inattentive to fill our glasses with the bottled sparkling water we had on the table. Husband ordered salmon and it was a bit over cooked and also surprisingly bland. A bit disappointing since our breakfasts were stellar and service was extremely attentive each morning. Our favorite part of the restaurant is that it is not stuffy and not pretentious. We enjoyed watching the very diligent chefs at work but just wished they had spiced things up a bit! Beautiful interior and friendly, helpful, staff. They were able to help us navigate the menu in light of our gluten allergy and were able to make custom changes to the menu items (instead of just saying, "no, you can't have that.") The burrata appetizer was great, and they even found some GF bread for us somewhere, which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. The hangar steak was done medium rare and they cooked it correctly. It was tender and flavorful, not tough at all. Wife gave good reviews of her duck. Although I didn't eat it, the kids had hamburgers that were overcooked and brown all the way through. They didn't complain, but I tried to help cut it and it was very tough. The homemade ice cream for dessert and coffees were delicious. With good food and friendly attentive staff we'd definitely eat here again (not too often, however, as prices are on the higher end - check the menu to compare for your budget). read more

This is a place I never tire of. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner; Jansz always delivers good, tasty, unpretentious food in a very pleasant setting. I've stayed at The Pulitzer Hotel which houses Jansz a few times so know this restaurant fairly well. I love their dinner menu but my favorite meal at Jansz is breakfast. The breakfast buffet is top notch with offerings all the way from fruit and muesli down to a full blown charcuterie board and smoked fish. It's all extremely fresh and the service is always great. For dinner, try anything on the menu and you'll probably end up liking it. They have a fantastic wine by the glass list so you're able to try a few different glasses with your meal if desired. If you do go for dinner, it's advisable to make a booking in advance as it can get busy with hotel guests. The restaurant feels like you're dining in your friend's (very nice) kitchen. It's airy and comfortable, decorated with pastels and cozy accent pieces. Even if it's for a nice cup of coffee, head to Jansz next time you're in Amsterdam. read more

This was an awesome restaurant in Amsterdam!!! We had a variety of items. A burger, a great steak, the fish dish and the lamb. All were very exquisite. French fries (quite popular dish in this area) were very good. The service was EXCELLENT. Very accommodating to everyone and the ambiance is fun. You can eat out on the patio or inside. If you eat outside, the timing is limited so if you'd rather do a slow paced meal, eat inside. Truly love this place and will be back. read more

I would love to give a perfect rating: the food was amazing, really interesting wine offer with many wines on the glass, great ambience. Everything would be perfect, but the service, especially at the beginning was not at the same level of the rest of the experience. We had to wait some time to order, when our cocktails arrived mine was poured on the table and no one cared to clean. It's too bad because everything else is a high class experience, from starter to main to the side dish everything was great in flavor and presentation. What a horrible experience. I have never been so disappointed by any restaurant service. I rarely write reviews but feel I would be doing every restaurant-goer a disservice by not reviewing this restaurant. The food was sub-par, and after we had finished our meal we waited over 30 minutes only to realize our server was never going to return to our table. When we went up to the main desk to talk to the manager and tell him what happened, he said "oh, sorry" and asked how we would like to pay the bill. He could have cared less how our experience was. If you want an authentic French dining experience with excellent food and service in the heart of Amsterdam, I HIGHLY recommend Brasserie Ambassade, which exceeded my expectations and made up for my truly terrible experience at Jansz. read more

HIGHLY recommend this restaurant! It was our favorite meal in Amsterdam and only sad it was our last night! We went for dinner and everything was PERFECT, from the service to the food. Even the free bread was soft, warm and delicious. The food is wonderful but the service is seriously lacking. We came for lunch on a Monday afternoon as a group of 5. Our waitress got our order wrong, forgot our drinks, and never cleared our plates even after we paid. She was more focused on setting the other tables for the evening service than taking care of the customers who were enjoying lunch.
