Bacon Three Banana Nutella Pancakes
Gaby U.

Grabbed breakfast with my husband mid-week and sat outside under their temporary tent, which is nice since it's shaded but still get the breeze. It was fairly slow, I think one other couple inside that we could see and then 1-2 takeout/ to go orders. I believe they had 1 server working the whole restaurant, but it was fine- he dropped off menus and water, took our order, dropped it off and refilled our coffees. I ordered the Nutella banana pancakes, which was 3 large pancakes pleasantly had bananas inside and on top, with Nutella between the layers- they didn't skimp on toppings / filling. And a side of bacon- standard nothing special here but definitely crispy. My husband ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito, which came with rice and beans. He added avocado and potatoes inside. Not the best wrap job but it held up ok until the end. Overall came out to around $50 with tip, incl. 2 coffees. Not too bad...compared to a lot of breakfast places these days. I wouldn't say it was anything special but an enjoyable meal. 3.5 stars really.

Denver Omelet and Crispy Potatoes

Finally tried Janik's after living in the neighborhood for three years and glad I did! Took the family and everyone enjoyed their meal. I got a Denver omelette with potatoes and upgraded to a berry pancake. All solid! Not the best pancake I've ever had but very solid and would get again. Potatoes were great and crispy! My husband got corned beef and a half biscuits and gravy and both were good! Great gravy. My dad got the French toast as really loved it as well. We will def be back!!

Stopped by for breakfast this weekend, busy but they were able to accommodate a table of two quickly. Chilaquiles were great, served with three eggs, pico de gallo, rice and beans. My boyfriend ordered the traditional Benedict, which he didn't. Ham was tough and chewy, potatoes lacking salt. I also have to give a ding for the plastic plates.. glass would be preferred, especially for a busy restaurant. Prices are also steep for basic breakfast items.

We came here to grab breakfast and got seated right away. Service was quick and staff was friendly. I got a bowl and added bacon to it. The menu didn't I fixate that there was upcharge it just gave you an option to add protein. I was a big disappointed to see there was $4 upcharge for that. And when I asked that it was not indicated on the menu, server just dismissed it. Please update your menu with right prices.

The Latin benedict was the star of the show so flavorful. The service was so quick and the waiter was friendly and attentive. Can't wait to come back!

Janik's Cafe was right around the corner from where I used to live and was one of my regular spots when I first moved to Chicago. It's affordable and has solid, classic diner food. The breakfast sandwich hits the spot, and the bagels are nice and doughy. The coffee and lattes are just okay, but it's a chill, no-frills spot for a good, easy breakfast.

The cutest breakfast joint in Wicker! The breakfast was hearty and delicious. They serve good coffee. The ambience is very homey. The staff is super nice and are another reason I'd definitely go again!

03/19/24 - My buddy brought me here for breakfast this morning. Nice restaurant directly across the street from Cafe Istanbul on Division. When we went in we were greeted & seated. The server/owner suggested the chilaquiles which were very good. I wouldn't mind going back and tryi some of the other items on their menu

I loved our breakfast experience this morning at Janik's Cafe. We were looking for a casual spot with traditional options. Janik's did the trick. This small storefront cafe sits on the edge of Wicker Park. It looks so much more cozy on the inside than the exterior offers. Brick walls, square tiled floors and interesting artwork create a cute atmosphere. The tables are super close to each other so be prepared. Our server wasn't exactly polished. She forgot a beverage. Served the wrong kind requested bread and leaned over my head to reach across the table to pick up plates. While I appreciate her effort to keep our table tidy, I just hated to be so involved in the process. Her service was still efficient and her attitude was on point. Our food was delicious. My veggie bowl was huge and tasty. It was my breakfast and my dinner. We also enjoyed chicken & waffles and a ham & cheese omelette. The price point was reasonable too. I will definitely return soon.

Pancake combo

Great nice and attentive service! Food was great variety! Enjoyed the pancake combo options which was delicious and filling! Had side of toast that was really dry though and had to ask for butter which was served cold and hard so that was slight disappointment. Mimosa was great! Lovely breakfast/brunch option in the area though with lots of options to chose from!

Very nice open clean welcoming atmosphere. They also have an outside patio I ordered the cream of chicken soup, it was excellent. Nice pieces of chicken in a delicious creamy semi thick flavorful broth. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich on white toast. I added tomato. It was a good decent sandwich. The bread was grilled well, it was cheesy, but kind of mushy in center. The waitress was really nice and friendly. I would go again.

We watched our waitress make multiple attempts to pick up my husband's drink from the bar, spill, set it down, pick it back up and spill more, and finally give up and run it to us. As she set down this sticky, wet, under-filled mess, I asked her exactly how much of my husband's $16 cocktail she had just spilled. She said, "Yeah, the bartender over-poured," and walked off. We then watched her do the exact same thing to every mixed drink she ran. Way, way too expensive to be delivering messy, dripping, quarter-empty cocktails. It was no wonder when we arrived that there was a line out the door. We waited around 45 minutes, and the bouncer was a really nice fellow who kept track of the numbers and people at the door. Upon entering, we were immersed in a dimly lit retro-style lounge. It was quite loud inside and packed as we walked to our seats. The server was great at taking our orders and offering suggestions. I opted for the French 75, which featured sparkling wine and mixed gin, brandies, and citrus. The drink was delicious, but STRONG. I don't know what they put in the cocktails in America, but I am always finished after one drink. Needless to say, we were all struggling to finish our own drinks. My favourite touch was the coasters, I ended up keeping all of them so that I can reuse them at my galentines event next year. The 'bisous' with the kiss on the other side is a perfect touch! I think the drinks are fairly priced for USD. I would love to return someday to try other drinks and bar bites, and also try their sister bar, Sparrow.

Imagine my shock when we didn't even make it past the bouncer because he was so rude, AS OTHER RECENT REVIEWS HAVE MENTIONED AS WELL! We had dinner nearby and walked to Bisous after, and saw there was a line of 5 or 6 people outside. We expected this as we knew Bisous is a first come, first serve bar. We were curious what the wait time would look like, so we approached the front door to ask a host or employee inside (we assumed there'd be a desk with an employee working it who could give us a wait time). We had no problem waiting, just wanted to see how long they estimated it would be! Before we could even fully open the door, the bouncer swung the door open from the other side and hit me with the door. I stumbled back a few steps and he looked at us and said, and I quote, "What do you want?". I laughed at first because I thought he was joking and putting on a tough guy act. He was not. We quickly explained we just wanted to see what the wait time was, and he said "don't you see there's a line outside?" We said yes, and explained we just wanted to know a rough estimated wait time. He just blankly stared at us while ushering us out. Both my boyfriend and I have worked in customer-service roles for a very, very long time. This encounter was not only extremely rude and unprofessional, but he also hit me hard enough with the door to send me stumbling back, and then said nothing about it and continued to address us in a tone that was nothing less than annoyed and irritated. We didn't end up going inside because that encounter left such a bad taste in our mouths. I don't believe in spending my money at establishments that don't treat their customers with the bare minimum respect they deserve! Bummed we didn't get to experience it, as I'm sure it was lovely inside and I can only hope the rest of the employees were much more kind and accommodating, or at least able to answer a simple question. Fire your "bouncer" (??) and hire someone with some basic customer service and communication skills!!

Our waiter at Le Mistral was very friendly, gave some good advice on the cocktails, and was consistently attentive. My cocktail was just OK - sherry-based martini. I don't normally like a martini but all the ingredients actually seemed very much up my alley - the sherry, benedictine, rose vermouth. But the olive just overpowered. And definitely not worth the price of $24... Would definitely return and try the food next time as well.

We were not looking to feel the noize, however, and so stayed for just one cocktail. Mine was a Sazerac adjacent mix, and it was very high quality. The decor is very low light, but the vibe is pretty basic - more Paint Your Dorm Room black than Parisian Opium Den black. A bit of a missed opportunity for romance.
