Janik's Cafe was a great breakfast stop in Wicker Park. They had a covered outdoor patio, but we ended up eating inside. My latte was good, but the food was even better. It was a huge portion and came with corn tortillas. Our server was also very friendly. The food came out super fast, and we had no trouble getting a table on Saturday morning around 9:30 AM. Highly recommend for a breakfast or brunch! read more

Loved Janik's cafe! They had the seasonal pumpkin pie that I tried with my veggie omelette. Plenty of portions that I had extras. Hazelnut latte was tasty, it was really good with the oat milk and foam. Service was easy, fast, and friendly. We even got to meet Janik herself! Feels like home for only going there for the first time! Lots of space and seating so you don't have to wait to get a table. They have both outside and inside seating. It definitely feels homey and would definitely come back! read more

This place... hands down, is a gem. Every single thing we ordered was top notch. Service unmatched. It shows a 4.2 stars on Yelp. I definitely think it's under rated!!! Such a nice place. Seating is plentiful. No less than 10 customers came in and ordered take out while we were there. Inside service wasn't packed maybe about 5 or 6 tables full. Service was fast. We waited no more than 10 minutes for 4 meals. Kids were given a treat when we walked in. My kids were sold from that point. They both enjoyed their breakfast. Portions were very good for the price. Menu has a great variety. Overall great experience! read more

Grabbed breakfast with my husband mid-week and sat outside under their temporary tent, which is nice since it's shaded but still get the breeze. It was fairly slow, I think one other couple inside that we could see and then 1-2 takeout/ to go orders. I believe they had 1 server working the whole restaurant, but it was fine- he dropped off menus and water, took our order, dropped it off and refilled our coffees. I ordered the Nutella banana pancakes, which was 3 large pancakes pleasantly had bananas inside and on top, with Nutella between the layers- they didn't skimp on toppings / filling. And a side of bacon- standard nothing special here but definitely crispy. My husband ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito, which came with rice and beans. He added avocado and potatoes inside. Not the best wrap job but it held up ok until the end. Overall came out to around $50 with tip, incl. 2 coffees. Not too bad...compared to a lot of breakfast places these days. I wouldn't say it was anything special but an enjoyable meal. 3.5 stars really. read more

Really nice people who work here and my shredded beef burrito was excellent. I saw as regulars came in for a coffee or take out and chatted with the staff like family. Loved it. Only downside is I asked for another extra side of their salsa verde and they charged me $1.50 for it. That's a lot for a small side of salsa and you should tell someone there's an added cost before bringing it. read more

Finally tried Janik's after living in the neighborhood for three years and glad I did! Took the family and everyone enjoyed their meal. I got a Denver omelette with potatoes and upgraded to a berry pancake. All solid! Not the best pancake I've ever had but very solid and would get again. Potatoes were great and crispy! My husband got corned beef and a half biscuits and gravy and both were good! Great gravy. My dad got the French toast as really loved it as well. We will def be back!! read more

Definitely busy on a late sunday morning so a bit loud and bustling inside, but we were able to wait inside and seated fairly quickly! Everyone was super kind and attentive to if we needed anything both while waiting and once seated. Portions were large and flavors good - I got the fried chicken benedict and my dad got the latin benedict. Tables can be moved around to accommodate both small and larger groups in the space, would definitely come again! read more

This place like a fusion breakfast meets every other culture restaurant. They have an eclectic menu, and everything we had was okay. The food was mid, I had a breakfast burrito, I wanted more burrito from the breakfast burrito, although it was not as bad as many burritos that should just be called a wrap. They do work with schools to do fundraisers which is super nice of them, and adds to the food taste in a way. They have weird hours as well, a total breakfast early lunch place. I came here around 12:30pm and they were rushing us out by 1pm by slowing down on water and coffee service. They usually are pretty busy on the weekends but they are not busy on the weekdays, at anytime. Overall I would recommend if you're in the area. read more

Stopped by for breakfast this weekend, busy but they were able to accommodate a table of two quickly. Chilaquiles were great, served with three eggs, pico de gallo, rice and beans. My boyfriend ordered the traditional Benedict, which he didn't. Ham was tough and chewy, potatoes lacking salt. I also have to give a ding for the plastic plates.. glass would be preferred, especially for a busy restaurant. Prices are also steep for basic breakfast items. read more

Unbelievably good. Whether you're seeking American breakfast, a good soup/sandwich combo, or something from their unassailable Latin menu, the quality is top notch. Really good stuff! It's got a Hispanic flavor to some dishes and is super delicious! I would go back next time I'm in the neighborhood

We came here to grab breakfast and got seated right away. Service was quick and staff was friendly. I got a bowl and added bacon to it. The menu didn't I fixate that there was upcharge it just gave you an option to add protein. I was a big disappointed to see there was $4 upcharge for that. And when I asked that it was not indicated on the menu, server just dismissed it. Please update your menu with right prices. read more

Three of us came here on a Saturday morning for late breakfast / brunch, and the host seated us immediately. We sat at the outdoor patio, which has foldable tables, and from where we could enjoy the bustling neighborhood. They quickly brought out menus and water. It took them a while to get our orders, which I didn't mind as I used that time to catch up with friends. The food came out quickly after we ordered. I had the eggs benedict with ham. They were perfectly poached with the yolk being runny and imbuing the scones once the egg was cut into. The hollandaise was ok. The roasted potatoes on the side were excellent: well seasoned and crispy. I only wish there was some type of vegetable on the dish. They also have free coffee refills which is great when you have a wedding to party at that night. The waiters were friendly and checked in on us regularly without being disruptive. They were very prompt at bringing the check after picking up the empty dishes. Overall, great food and great service! read more

Janik's Cafe was right around the corner from where I used to live and was one of my regular spots when I first moved to Chicago. It's affordable and has solid, classic diner food. The breakfast sandwich hits the spot, and the bagels are nice and doughy. The coffee and lattes are just okay, but it's a chill, no-frills spot for a good, easy breakfast. read more

Janik's Cafe - One Pancake Regular Coffee - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I loved our breakfast experience this morning at Janik's Cafe. We were looking for a casual spot with traditional options. Janik's did the trick. This small storefront cafe sits on the edge of Wicker Park. It looks so much more cozy on the inside than the exterior offers. Brick walls, square tiled floors and interesting artwork create a cute atmosphere. The tables are super close to each other so be prepared. Our server wasn't exactly polished. She forgot a beverage. Served the wrong kind requested bread and leaned over my head to reach across the table to pick up plates. While I appreciate her effort to keep our table tidy, I just hated to be so involved in the process. Her service was still efficient and her attitude was on point. Our food was delicious. My veggie bowl was huge and tasty. It was my breakfast and my dinner. We also enjoyed chicken & waffles and a ham & cheese omelette. The price point was reasonable too. I will definitely return soon. read more

Great nice and attentive service! Food was great variety! Enjoyed the pancake combo options which was delicious and filling! Very nice open clean welcoming atmosphere. They also have an outside patio I ordered the cream of chicken soup, it was excellent. Nice pieces of chicken in a delicious creamy semi thick flavorful broth. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich on white toast. I added tomato. It was a good decent sandwich. The bread was grilled well, it was cheesy, but kind of mushy in center. The waitress was really nice and friendly. I would go again. read more

I'm sorry to not be able to recommend this place. The salmon meal was very underwhelming and the piece of salmon was scrawny. However, that was the best part of the meal. The reason for the two stars is the absolutely disgusting crab cake sandwich which mainly consisted of bread crumbs and imitation crab sprinkled about. The soup was not a full cup of soup in the delivery, and was not seasoned. To the owner: PLEASE REMOVE THE CRAB CAKE SANDWICH FROM THE MENU. It is a frozen mess of breadcrumbs, and not a good representation of your restaurant. There are plenty of other items to try that likely taste much better. read more

We happened upon Janik's quite by accident when the restaurant we Uber'ed to was closed. We walked through the bustling patio and into the indoor dining room where we were greeted warmly by the owner who invited us to sit anywhere. We decided to sit outside as it was a beautiful day; we took the last available table. The server arrived shortly thereafter for our drink order. The menu is fairly diverse with lots of options, both American and Latin American and we asked our server for a few minutes more so we could make decision. She returned promptly to take our order -- no long wait which can be typical if you ask for more time to make a decision. My friend ordered a bowl with a side of avocado along with a Bloody Mary and I ordered the chilaquiles with green sauce with the egg scrambled instead of the traditional fried. The Bloody Mary arrived first, slightly spicy, rimmed with salt and garnished with a stalk of celery and a skewer that included pickle, a black olive and a wedge of lemon. I wasn't quite ready for alcohol but my friend graciously shared a sip and it was delicious! Our food arrived shortly thereafter, hot and delicious. My chiliquilles were phenomenal! The plate arrived with a generous helping of eggs atop crispy and delicious tortillas chips doused in green sauce. The dish was accompanied by rice, beans sprinkled with a perfect amount of cheese (cojita?) a dollop of pico, sour cream and extra green sauce. The green sauce had definite kick but not blow your socks off kick. If you're hungry, this is substantial and delicious! I inquired with the server about the sauce and she verified that the sauce is made in house. My friend ordered a breakfast bowl that included eggs, choice of meat, vegetables, cheese, black beans, pico and cheese. It came with a choice of bread, which there were many to choose from. She was tickled to have ordered a brioche roll and declared it delicious. We pretty much killed our respective breakfasts and only left what we were too stuffed to finish. Before leaving, I walked through the inside of the restaurant to the bathroom. I can only describe the interior as happy. Vibrantly colored paintings on the wall, colorful steamers and lights hanging from the ceiling -- warm, homey and happy. The staff was lovely...the owner was warm and pleasant as she bustled on the patio admiring cute babies, laughing with a table of teachers at the end of their school year and picking up the slack to help the staff out. Would definitely return. Satisfying and delicious, warm and friendly. 3.5 for me - I have tried this place a couple of times and while it's pretty good and the service is amazing I would say the food was just okay for my liking. The iced coffees are very delicious and we tried the avocado toast which had a lot of lettuce on it which seemed a little random. Also tried the turkey club sandwich was pretty decent. I think my favorite was the pancakes if I were to come back I would order these again. Overall really nice place always filled up and the orders coming quick. It is quite loud inside so if possible if the weather is nice I would recommend sitting outside! read more

Janik's Cafe - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Today, I had the privilege of enjoying breakfast at Janik's Café, and it was truly a memorable experience. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and they were nothing short of amazing. The way the dish was plated was so beautiful that I paused to admire it for a while, appreciating the artistry and care that went into it. Normally, I mix all my food together to make a sort of hearty stew, but this time, I just had to take a moment to marvel at how perfectly it was presented before creating my signature mix. The flavors, as always, were incredible--a true testament to the love and skill that goes into their cooking. What truly moved me this time wasn't just the food but the reminder of the opportunities God gives us to be part of His family and to serve others. Especially during this season, when the cold weather sets in, the need to feed and care for those around us feels so much more urgent. Inspired by this, I decided to order five additional meals to share with others. As I discussed my plan with the waiter, he made a wonderful suggestion: breakfast sandwiches. It was such a thoughtful idea because it solved the challenge of portability and ease of eating. He prepared five meals with breakfast sandwiches, hashbrowns, and all the essentials, carefully packed into separate bags, making it so simple for me to distribute them. His kindness and insight filled me with gratitude, and it brought me so much joy to be able to carry out this small act of giving. What brought me even greater joy was seeing the faces of those I shared the meals with. On a night when temperatures dipped into the 20s, living outdoors in a park, a warm meal isn't just nourishment--it's hope. The gratitude and heartfelt thanks they expressed touched me deeply and reminded me of how much even a small act of kindness can mean to someone in need. I urge anyone reading this to consider doing something similar. The next time you're out, think about buying an extra meal--even just one--and giving it to someone who needs it. A warm meal can truly mean the world to them, especially during these colder months. God has given us so much, and one of the greatest ways to reflect His love is to share with those who need it most. Janik's Café isn't just a place with amazing food and exceptional service--it's a place filled with warmth and heart, where the people truly reflect the spirit of community and care. I am so thankful for this café, for the staff who go above and beyond, and for the reminder of God's blessings in providing opportunities to share His love with others. Felippa and Team you have done it again! If you're looking for flavorful food, friendly faces, and a place that truly uplifts your spirit, Janik's Café is it. I highly recommend it--both for the incredible meals and for the chance to witness how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. read more
