There were horseshoe prints in the dirt alongside the paved trail.

I wish the tennis courts allowed for pickleball, especially because they have lights and we don't really have any lighted options in Winston (except out in Old Town). That said, there is a bit of a homeless problem in the area that seems more manifest at night. Just a heads-up.

There's a track as well but I'm not sure if this is part of the park or the school. You can walk on the trails that go parallel to Peters Creek. They have several bridges you can use to cross back and forth. The trails do go under the Glade Street bridge on the south side (park boundary ends here). The bridge is a little sketchy with all the liter and graffiti. Never had any issues though. Overall, Hanes Park is a nice park to enjoy the day. Dog friendly too.

It's a cool little park (or court) in the West End. Good place to come and clear your head, read a…read morebook or just sit and enjoy the scenery. Love the pavilion, which was recently renovated (2016 perhaps?). Fountains are cool. Lots of large trees. Several benches to sit on as long as you can avoid sitting on bird shit. As of Winter 2017, they were still working on the fence in the back section of the court. Park is pretty safe, especially during the day. Never had any vagrant issues or other problems here.

Hey, what do ya know!? Another beautiful park in the Triad! This one is closely located to main…read moreroads, but removed enough to enjoy the nature while wrangling your kids along! This park has a walking trail that is paved and stroller friendly, and a couple of playgrounds intersect this on either side. Looks like one playground also contains a splash pad, but this was closed off when we went. Not sure if because it was still early in the season or if it's still shut down due to the pandemic. On the other side of the parking lot is a unique outside gym area with several pieces of equipment. Elliptical, stepper, pull-up bars, resistance trainers, and signage accompanying with instructions. This is under a canopy and looks well maintained. Adjacent to this is also a court area for playing horseshoes and pétanque. They also host a friendly and free pétanque league here! I had to look up what pétanque was, and seems like it's very similar to bocce ball. I might join up this summer! They gather on Sunday afternoons.

I've seen some adults love it too! Lol. There is a few things that a toddler would enjoy, such as the one of a kind swings that allow you to sit with your baby as you swing together, and a mini playground but overall I think this is geared for preschool aged and up. There is a big pavilion with plenty of picnic tables, bathrooms, a walking path and workout station towards the entrance. I only wish there was shade for the playground because I can imagine it getting pretty hot in the summer!

Highlights - Great place to walk, run, bike or walk your…read moredogs - Restaurants and places to get a drink are not far off the Strollway - Old Salem section is great - Runs from 4th Street to the Greenway The Downtown Strollway runs from Salem Avenue, past Old Salem and into downtown, ending (or beginning) on 4th Street. Great trail for walking, running, walking the dogs or riding a bike. The Old Salem section of the Strollway is a 5 star. The trail takes you right past Old Salem. You will pass right by the Old Salem Visitors Center and the Heritage Bridge. You can cross over the street using the bridge and visit Old Salem if you like. The trail in this section is wide enough for all people coming and going. If you follow the Strollway south you will end up at the Greenway, which you can take to Winston-Salem State or Salem Lake to the west, or Washington Park to the east, but that is another review. You do have to cross over a busy street (Salem Avenue) but there is a nice wine shop on the other side. The northern route past Old Salem takes you to downtown and ends at 4th Street. This takes you under Business 40 and past Corpening Plaza park. Nice part of this section is you end up right into the heart of all of the downtown restaurants on 4th Street. This section requires crossing 3 streets in downtown. The only reason I don't have the Strollway rated 5 stars is the section running under Business 40 can be a little sketchy. This will change after the Business 40 renovations are completed.

There's a tennis court and a real nice playground for the kiddies. Looks like a ship with plenty of room to climb, slides, swings of course and a unique rope swing as well. It's not the most impressive park overall but if you live nearby it's a nice spot to get some walking and outside playtime in!
