Pretty good place to go relax and take the kids out to enjoy nature. I normally go here to destress and go on walks.

If Greensboro and High Point can claim somewhere as a "central park" it would have to be the parks and rec complex created by the fusion of City Lake Park, Jamestown Park and Golf Course, the High Point Greenway, and the Piedmont Environmental Center converging together on this point. If you can't figure out a way to spend a day outside somewhere in all that, you might just not like the outdoors! The Piedmont Environmental Center serves as kind of a trailhead for the High Point Greenway, as well as a system of lakeside trails that run along city lake and the golf course. The welcome center is attractive on the outside, though decisively could use a facelift indoors. Still, it has what you need. Restrooms, vending, information and brochures, and even a small exhibit featuring native snakes and amphibians from the Piedmont. I never pass up a chance to check out some snakes, preferably behind glass like these. The trails make a great place for a light intensity hike, a simple nature walk, or just a place to walk the dog. On my visit, it was an overcast and cool day in early spring, so it's not quite time for peak visitors yet. I prefer this time of year, things are quiet and serene, and the trees are just starting to bloom. There is no shortage of signage along the trails, and ample places to make sure you clean up after your dog. Another note, if you're a Pokemon Go player, there are no less than 12(!) easy to access gyms at both the major hub around the visitor center, and then several along the trails, not to mention a litany of Pokestops. Friendly and knowledgeable folks here at the PEC, and some gorgeous nature preserve area! As a Triad resident, I have become almost jaded by now to how much nature there is available all around us, and the grounds and trails around here are worth checking out all the same! They also hold lots of events, so be sure to ask for a calendar or pamphlet of what they have planned! This week, my daughter is enjoying her camp experience, where she is learning about and experiencing wildlife, and they also have planned a day at the lake park with splash pad and a late night camp fire and s'mores party! For the price, it did not seem to be a bad value either at all. read more

(4.5 stars) I don't get out here as often as I should, but that is because seemingly every time the weather is semi-nice, the PEC's parking lot is full. Of course, it isn't hard to see why. The Piedmont Environmental Center offers a variety of trails that range in length and complexity to accommodate different walkers. There's a good amount of biodiversity, and you never know what interesting creatures you'll encounter on a walk. The lake views are serene, and while the PEC offers a chance to disconnect and enjoy nature for a while, it also offers convenient greenway access. The rather sparse welcome center is admittedly a bit underwhelming, but for the price (FREE!), there is little room for complaint. read more

In town visiting family and found this place while looking for a good trail to run. Beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife (saw five deer!) and the trails were marked well. I got one heck of a workout as well. Will definitely visit again after I move to the Greensboro area later this year. read more

Really cool trails and doggie bags available for dog walkers. We took our pup on trail #2 recently & he had a blast. My husband loves trekking around too. I only wish the bathrooms inside could be open on weekends. It's very inconvenient to have to go in the woods. (Kidding! Well, mostly.) We will be back soon. read more

The trails are nice and shaded. They seem to be busy with lots of walkers, joggers and such. But in the 20 plus years I have been coming out here not much seems to have been with the welcome center. It meets the basic needs of shelter, seating, vending machines and rest rooms. I just wish it looked more engaging and vibrant. I think it would help in attracting even more interest. It also saddens me that the gift shop area was never revived and reopened. read more

This place is a great gem in the city of Greensboro. It has a nice visitors center with restrooms if you need them. There are several trails that intertwine around a lake. The longest is about 2miles, which if you're a long distance runner it's not too far. I like to run on the 2 mile trail a couple times to equal a nice 6 mile run but I have to be careful with the roots from the trees, they'll definitely trip you if you're not paying attention. The trail itself is pretty narrow as well. This place is dog friendly too. All the people and dogs :-) are pretty friendly on the trail, if you're running they'll step out of the way and let you pass. The views are great too with the lake, a stream flowing in one spot and of course the great outdoors of wooded forested areas all over. read more

This is such a great city gem! The trails are nice, not overcrowded. The center wasn't open when we went there. Dogs are welcome. Trails have enough people to not feel totally alone on the trail, but not crowded enough where you're running into people frequently. Lots of trails tat go around the lake with benches along the way. read more

This place is run down, however, I think that adds to the magic and persona this place has..... It is very private and feels so secluded. Great Trails for walking and moving about....A real place you can go and feel comfortable taking your children. read more

Easy to get to, but feels totally secluded. I really like the trails here, they are simple yet challenging for the average nature walker. kid and dog friendly. I took the white trail, which is the longest choice of the bunch. Recommended if you want to stay in the area but feel like you "got away". read more

Relaxing walk in nature. Nice paths where you can walk leashed dogs. I have been going for years. Don't miss the local wild flower sale in the spring. Very cheap. read more
