I stopped by Jamie's on my way to Salem, and I had such a good experience that I stopped by again a day later when I left Salem! Between my two trips, I got the Weekend at Bearnie's, the Chicken Kabob sub, and the Super Beef 3-way. The roast beef was SO flavorful and tender. The horseradish in the Weekend sandwich compliments the beef perfectly, but the classic 3-way is incredible too. I ordered in store both times, but they seemed super prompt in fulfilling their online orders. There's a table/counter inside and one outdoor table, but most folks took their food to go. In addition to the fantastic food, the staff is remarkable. The kitchen operates like a well-oiled machine, and it's clear they're passionate about their food. Tried Jamie's Roast Beef's Beverly location: sadly, I was very unimpressed. Jr Beef with James River sauce, & order of fries was $17.12: pricey, compared to their competitors. Sandwich weighed in at 10 oz. This is in line with some of the larger juniors I have weighed, but the meat was not quite as good. It wasn't sliced properly, & had an overly garlicky taste. The fries were thick cut, not shoestring. The portion size was enormous (14.5 oz), enough for two people-why not offer a smaller size as well? Also, the fries had a burnt oil kind of taste. not too good. Sorry to sound like a pompous ass: it's just that I've been eating North Shore Beefs since the mid 70s. I just feel that if someone wants to come in, & reinvent the product (& charge more for it), then they should give a better product. Tonight's experience (plus a previous visit to their Peabody location) proves to me that they don't. read more

UM YUM. First time checking this place out and we were pretty impressed. Ordered a chicken caesar wrap and my guy got a roast beef three way with a small fry to go. YUM. The place was VERY clean and ran like a well oiled machine. Staff was friendly and efficient. Thank you your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. The food was wrapped great and we appreciated the big napkins and squeezable ketchup for us messy people. The bread on the roast beef was awesome and had a slight peppery taste to it which was definitely unique. The wrap was FRESH and stayed together while eating. We're not locals, and our first experience with roast beef wasn't great, so we decided we'd better give it another try before we leave the area. Jamie's was the right choice. The woman at the counter was so helpful and friendly. She saw our one-year old and offered to make her a grilled cheese even though it's not on the menu. Our boys loved the pizza rolls (like an egg roll with pizza fillings). I got the Sorry Jr (garlic aioli, house bbq, and an onion ring on the roast beef)--so good! I should have gotten the jr. size instead of regular. It was a lot of meat! My husband got the chicken parm sub and said it was awesome. Highly recommend! We ate out front, which was a little loud depending on the traffic, but not too bad and there were a few tables inside too. read more

I must be missing something because I definitely do not think this place is worthy of more than two stars and mostly all for the food because I thought the service that I got when I walked in was exceptional. It's truly a toss-up w/ Zeno's for the best 3way on the North Shore. The beef itself is outrageously tender and seasoned to perfection. There are so many menu offerings, other than the traditional, but I really don't know how I'd ever depart from the classic done the best way possible. I'm beyond disappointed with this place. I have been looking at their sandwiches for so long and have been dying to try it, but this was an actual disaster. If you are going here DO NOT order their "Beef Worth a Drive" style beefs. You can only order them as a super beef which is the first major problem. If you could order them as a junior it might actually be worth it, but the size made this sandwich inedible. It wasn't even a sandwich, it was basically roast beef soup with an onion roll on top. Everything was slimy and I couldn't even pick up the food without everything falling out. The bottom bun was so soggy I didn't even get to try it. I also tried it hot and fresh in the car so this wasn't me letting it sit too long. I wanted to give this place 1 star but I'm giving it two for the nice atmosphere and the fact that the flavors weren't terrible. My advice to this joint is, less is more. Let people order extra sauce if they want that much sauce and PLEASE make it so your specialty beefs can be made a junior. I want to clarify, I will go back and try a junior beef with classic James River sauce because I understand that could be better than whatever the hell I ordered (basically slimy, BBQ, roast beef soup). read more

I had Super beefs at both places, and Nick's was a blooper up the middle that he beat out. Jamie launched a 3-run bomb that fell onto Landsdowne st. Jamie's sandwich had far more meat, the meat was MUCH MORE flavorful, and even the roll and cheese were tastier. Drove 40 minutes and so happy I did because it was the most delicious roast beef sandwich I've ever had. Very, very, good but very messy. The beef was delicious and the bun perfectly toasted but the sauce was everywhere and it was a big slimy mess. Most places wrap their beefers in foil or paper wrap this was in a nice recyclable container so it wasn't a total pain and was still very good. Decided to check out Jamie's because I've had hot roast beef sandwiches all over the North Shore and wanted to see how they measure up to the competition. I can honestly say that the beef is as good (if not better) than most of the places I've been to! When I went I decided to try something different, most places go with the usual 3-way beef option, but Jamie's has decided to put their own creative spin on the hot roast beef sandwich. I got the Boursin, which was OUTSTANDING! My only criticism was that there was so much beef in it, that the bread was unable to hold it once I started eating it. Other than that, I also got the truffle fries which did not even make it home because I finished them all in the car. Everything tasted incredible.
