So when I showed up today as it was on my calendar I was informed that I didn't have an appt. Took time to rearrange my day for this appointment. Walked out seething . Called asked for office manager who did call me back who tried to explain and twist it like I canceled my appointment... didn't feel like I was given a true apology. This wasn't my 1st time with appointment issues. I suppose when your business is so large and have numerous locations and long waits for appointments that quality of customer service goes down the drain. Customer loyalty too isn't important either. Well I won't be recommending you anymore in the future if anyone asks me for a dental group. You can say what you want but trying to be a spin doctor and lay blame on the customer when your staff assumes to cancel future standing appointments without asking and confirming is INEXCUSABLE!!!

She kept insisting on a procedure where she would force out a bridge that was cemented to healthy teeth, warning this could break healthy teeth. I declined the procedure . I didn't want to risk breaking healthy teeth. She kept insisting on the procedure. I had to refuse and decline her advice multiple times; too many times. at the end of visit she wished me harm and said "well I hope when you go home, you eat a piece of candy and bridge cap pops off then you have to turn around and come back. It's amazing how her entire demeanor changed when I declined her recommendation. This is why they get one star.

I rarely write reviews, and the ones I usually write are positive. I went to Virginia Family…read moreDentistry because of the glowing reviews, but my experience was quite different. I've lived in the Richmond area for over 40 years and found their business practices concerning. My 19-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter, and I had appointments last week. After being informed that our new patient visits would total $577 for the same services (since we are self-pay), I agreed to proceed. While I understand my son is an adult, I made it clear that I would be paying for everything. I grew concerned when my dentist suggested pulling a back tooth due to a gap that might cause bacteria issues, despite no current problems plus making recommendation to see their periodontist and pushing a possible the idea of an implant for the tooth; as well as, selling them on their orthodontist after I mentioned that I had seen the orthodontist the day before...which they said they never got x-rays for and it didn't matter because theirs would be different. Additionally, we were told afterward that my daughter's visit would cost $60 more due to extra X-rays, which we were not informed about in advance. It's comparable to a mechanic doing extra work without getting your approval first. I decided to go along with it, appreciating the new patient discount. They then informed us my son would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular one and scheduled it for this week, again without giving any pricing information. When he asked if there would be extra costs, they implied there shouldn't be. Later, we found out this service would cost over $200. This was surprising since we were told otherwise, and they knew I was responsible for the payments. When I asked why we didn't receive a discount for my son's previous visit since he didn't get a cleaning the first time, they said his services were different. How? When the whole purpose of the visit was for a check up and cleaning. After speaking with the office manager, Lauren, I felt unheard and unacknowledged as a customer. She did not apologize or address my concerns, only defending their position. As a business coach and consultant, I've rarely encountered such poor customer service communication outside of the restaurant industry. We ultimately decided not to proceed with the additional service. Virginia Family Dentistry's communication with patients is lacking at best and unethical at worst. They lost out on over $1,500 of upcoming services we would have needed and the lifetime value of a customer. Choose carefully! They will not be getting any recommendations from me. It's noteworthy that they've disabled reviews on Facebook, which might explain the abundance of positive reviews here. I prefer practices that prioritize people over profits and are not influenced by private equity.

It was at that time that I asked for a referral, and he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry Orthodontist. And I have to admit that was the BEST recommendation anyone could have EVER given me. From the very first moment I walked through their doors, I was greeted so warmly that I knew I was in the right place. Their receptionist and front office personnel are very warm, inviting, and professional. But it didn't stop there. The initial process was informative with the comfort and ease necessary to help me make a decision. After that first visit, I was sold! When the day came to receive my braces, I was so excited! Their caring service, is by far the BEST! And they worked within my budget and I couldn't be happier. My regular dentist, who I've been with for 15 years, really gave me an EXCELLENT referral when he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry. They are now my favorite place to visit. I'm so glad I listened to my dentist!

Before any work is done they verify your insurance and then you pay up front for your treatment which I did. A month later I got a bill for 185.00 I took this bill back to the office and reviewed it with the staff I gave them the paperwork of what my dental insurance paid and the receipt of what I paid and she too said I didn't owe anything and uploaded everything to their billing office. I didn't hear anything else nor did I get any more bills until I get a text from a collection company for 185.00 so I paid it im not going to mess up my credit. But I did call the billing company to argue the point and put my dental insurance company on the call. Come to find out the billing office did not apply the negotiated rate to the bill. I am now waiting for them to return my money which they say can take 3 to 4 weeks this is unfair to the customer. As I said I loved this dentist office but I no longer trust their billing department.

From my initial email inquiring on service I was able to get in for a new patient appointment and cleaning. My appointment went great. The staff was all phenomenal and polite, and the actual dental work was exceptional. I felt it was very thorough and left feeling confident that my smile is being taken care of. I was also able to get in next day to get molds for a much needed new retainer, as the one I had was falling apart in my mouth. Everything went great and super quick. I was in and out. Even with my top set giving us trouble, the staff hung on and never lost patience. Wonderful. If you are in the market for a new dentist, look no further. Commonwealth Dentistry is the best!
