Let me set the stage for your imagination. It's 8am on a Saturday, and I just dropped of my car for service after a long night out. I'm winning in adulthood. I decide to go to James since it's walking distance and treat myself for breakfast. The hostess was on point. She acknowledged me and seated me right away as I entered the door. It's going to be a great day. Another score. My waitress (she didn't introduce herself, so we'll call her W) was attentive asked for my drink order, brought me coffee, and gave me time to decide. Please note I'm running on abt 5 hours sleep. I'm not the sharpest pencil atp. I'm looking for the early bird special because I'm really not that hungry, you know that item that's in big block letters in front of the menu. Anyways, Everything (90%)of the menu is 15.95/each. Sooooo, now I gotta think. Great. I digress. My spoon had dried food on the handle, and I touched it. I internally died. I asked for a clean spoon, so I can stir my coffee. After a few minutes, I asked again for a spoon. W was apologetic and brought me the spoon, and I 30% revived. I asked for an omelette instead of a scramble, but I got a scrambled omelette. I'm not an omelette connoisseur, sooooo. It was very light in color like water was added(?). The veggies didn't taste/look sautéed. Freshly raw thrown it. Okay the hash browns. Who doesn't love buttery crispy edges hash browns. They looked delicious, but the they tasted oily wet. I added a lot of ketchup and cholula to mask the taste and feeling, but it didn't really mask it well. It looked like my toast was buttered on one side. I asked for iced water, and W was attentive to my request. I was done eating at 9:02am, and I waited for my check, and waited, and waited. At 9:27am I went to the cashier to pay w/o a check. I've never been to this restaurant until yesterday. For the value, they have humongous portions for breakfast. I would get there as early as possible in the morning to avoid any lack of service. Definitely old school looks like maybe they don't have a POS system. I don't mind old school, but if you're in a rush, you may have to wait to pay your bill. read more

We came to Jame's Restaurant on my brother's recommendation, and I'm glad we did. It's an old-school diner that has clearly been around for a long time and has that classic, comfortable feel. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted right away and seated quickly. Our waitress came over almost immediately to take our drink order and returned just a few minutes later to take our food order. The service throughout the meal was excellent very attentive. The staff kept checking in to see if we needed anything, and drink refills were always on point. For food, I ordered the red chilaquiles with over-medium eggs, which came with rice, beans, and a chile toreado. We also ordered green chilaquiles with scrambled eggs, huevos caseros with bell peppers and tomatoes, a grilled cheese with fries, and an omelet that came with hash browns. Since today is Friday during Lent, we're not eating meat, so I came in a little unsure about what I'd be able to order. Luckily, they had several good meatless options, which made it easy. The ambiance is quiet and relaxed, with a TV playing in the background. The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and the service is genuinely friendly. My friend wanted to come here to grab breakfast. I was lucky to find parking right in the front of the place because parking is limited here. We got seated quick near the counter seating area. This restaurant will remind you of those old school diner. My friend went with their breakfast plate while I got their club sandwich with fries. My wife wanted the Primavera omelette so I ordered that to go for her. My friend got coffee for his drink and I asked for a coke. Our food didn't take long to come out but the waitress forgot my drink so I had to remind her. The breakfast gives you a good portion and the club sandwich was good. The service wasn't too bad either. This place does charge a fee if you pay with a card so just be aware. There also only two stalls for the bathroom so the line can back up. read more

My 98 year old mom ordered menudo no pata. I've never been asked that before so it was new to me. It came out piping hot. Even after I ate my breakfast and went to finish the broth it was still warm. She said she wouldn't order again. I added all the condiments and I think it had flavor. I did get the pozole last time and loved that. Service was good. One staff member held open the front door for my mom a long time and waited patiently for her to walk in. There is equal and sweet and low on the table. Like name brand packets. I told my mom they didn't have Splenda so she was going in her purse to get her stash and the waitress brought us a bowl of Splenda. The restaurant was pretty full. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. I ordered chatos rancheros with no bell pepper. I didn't see a lot of ham and sausage but it was a very hearty dish. The homemade salsa is really what makes the dish. The waitress did forget my toast but I had the super fresh and soft flour tortillas from my mom's menudo. My girlfriend ordered a Rueben sandwich with thick cuts of corned beef and a generous portion of fries. I opted for the low carb menu ordering the Swiss cheese and mushroom burger (no bun) and salad. This is my go-to place for breakfast. I come here with my family at least 2-3 times per month. The food is delicious, the service is good, and the restaurant gives that nostalgic diner feel. They have something for everyone on the menu, and everything we've ever tried has been equally as good. The parking is tiny BUT there's a free parking structure 1/2 block down. The portions are great for what you pay. Be prepared though, on the weekends the wait time gets pretty bad but totally worth the wait read more

I had breakfast here with my friends. It was packed for a Friday morning, but we got a table on the side (quieter there). We made our choices and each of us had a delicious meal. Victor, our server, was polite and checked in on us. The only problem was the used dishes that piled up. Our table didn't have enough room for several plates. The ladies bathroom also was small (there's a changing table in there, which is great, but it's a small room to begin with There were no paper towels to dry my hands with. I am giving it three stars because the food quality and taste is nowhere near as good of some local competition Like Hill Street, Bob's, Paty's, or Red Maple. Our server was extremely polite and we were able to be seated right when we arrived and the food items came out very quickly so that part of our meal was great. They have a small free parking lot attached but it is quite cramped and there was only one space available when we arrived for a 10:30 Sunday brunch. Pricing is fair, but from what everyone was ordering around us, I feel that their specialty is Mexican breakfast which I am also a huge fan of, but that's something to be aware before visiting. Inside is quite large with plenty of booth and counter seating. They have a fairly large menu that is filled with all sorts of classics but again I feel that their specialty is Mexican. I usually order the Eggs Benedict, but decided to mix it up for this breakfast and chose the Pancho Villa Scramble and added avocado and upgraded to Texas toast. In comparison to the scramble I had the day before it was not nearly as good. The onions and peppers were not cooked, and the potatoes were also quite large in square shape and also hardly cooked so it kind of clashed with the eggs. It wasn't terrible, but I honestly did not enjoy it and would definitely not recommend or order again. Met up with a friend for breakfast at this long time favorite local spot in San Fernando. Retro vibe from the outside sign to the stained glass window decor and tufted red booths. I liked it. Reminded me of the SF Valley when I was a kid. It felt homey and welcoming. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. I know they are famous for a few of the dishes especially the Pozole, which my friend ordered and she loved it. I order the Quatro Breakfast combo and although it was basic breakfast it was done right. Their pancakes were as big as my head! It was a generous plate and had plenty to take home for lunch later. Service was excellent. All the staff was friendly And food was served up quickly. Great value for the tasty food we enjoyed. I was surprised that the parking lot was full on a Tuesday morning. The restaurant was busy. I had to wait a while to find a spot and when I did I had to walk all around the building to the front so parking was challenging and I only saw one spot for ADA parking. Decided to give James restaurant another try after 10-15 years of not eating there (got food poisoning), a few people have mentioned it has changed and is really good. We decided to give it a try, we went early before 7:30. Started out by the waitress placing a plate on our table and she wasn't sure if it was ours, she picked it up and put it on the table behind us. It wasn't his so she took it back to the kitchen. When my husband's plate came it was ice cold and the owner apologized and told us her cook had a stroke the day before . Not sure why she would lay that on us?! My plate came after. I ordered a Bacon and egg sandwich. Came with a lot of fluorescent orange cheese that was not melted. We all know that is not a normal color and not melted means it's fake! The sourdough bread was drenched in oil, not butter for toasting. We were very disappointed to say the least. We will definitely not be going back or recommending anyone to eat there. We will stick to our original breakfast spot in Northridge, Brent's Deli. You should definitely go there, not to James. read more
