My five friends and I came here for lunch on a Thursday around 3:00 PM, and the place was pretty empty. I always thought that if a restaurant is packed, it means the food is good--but this place proved that idea completely wrong! We shared the molcajete and the queso fundido, and it was more than enough food for all of us. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Every bite was amazing. If you're debating whether to stop by because it doesn't look busy, don't let that fool you. This place is a hidden gem with incredible food. Decided to try this place for the first time, but unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. We went on a Friday evening and were the only table there, so I expected the service to be quick and attentive but that wasn't the case. I ordered a mezcalita, and it didn't even come filled to the top. For a $17+ drink, I would expect better. It also tasted more like lemonade than anything else. I couldn't taste the alcohol at all and didn't feel anything from it. The sushi menu was also a bit frustrating since it only listed names without any descriptions. When we asked our server, she tried to explain but didn't seem very confident, which made it harder to decide. We ended up ordering the Sister Sister roll, which was just okay. For entrees, my friend had the enchiladas verdes and I ordered the fajitas. Both were decent, but nothing stood out or made a lasting impression. Came with my sister on my first visit, and while the food wasn't Michelin worthy, it was really taste and made me want to come back. Seeing there there was a full bar, we came on a WC day with a friend. And this time the experience wasn't as great as my first. First off, the menus were grotesque- dirty and sticky and frankly they were nasty to even grab. Secondly, the bar itself was not very clean and also sticky. Lastly, we had some of the most mediocre cocktails I've had in a long time, very disappointing. So much so that it was one and done for both of us. My old fashioned came with a tajin rim, unexpected and so unnecessary. So I'm torn, love some stuff about this place and not so much about other aspects of the restaurant. read more

I've been on a quest to find good mole. I've tried almost every Mexican restaurant in the San Fernando Valley and everyone was mediocre at best. Then I found Encanto Mestizo. This place knows what they are doing! I ordered their chicken mole enchiladas and I'm now obsessed. They do something most places don't, the chicken inside the enchiladas is seasoned! No plain, unseasoned chicken meat. Then they smother them in their rich, thick, delicious mole sauce. I mean the flavor of the sauce is incredible. There's a tiny kick to the sauce, not too spicy, just enough to make them perfect. Oh, and there's tons of chicken in each enchilada. Very generous portion. I'm so happy to have found this gem, I can't wait to try other dishes. For now, I'm thrilled with their chicken mole enchiladas. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. We got mixed reviews on the food from my large party. My ribeye was not good at all. Left it all there. The mexican candy shot didn't taste normal. It tasted more like a lemon shot with tajin. Service was horrible but the waitress are nice. The place wasn't even full, so maybe it was understaffed. I had to ask twice for my soda. Weird because my cantaritos came out quickly. They brought me the wrong food and the noise made it worse because you cant hear or speak to anyone. The music itself is good, it's just too loud. We had to keep asking for napkins. Encanto Mestizo is a new place in Sylmar with some great menu offerings. Inside looked like a mix between a late night lounge and daytime sports bar. Lots of TVs for when a game is on and dark low lighting for a more relaxed dinner. The branzino plate was very good and seasoned nicely. The chili relleno was good too. Served with arugula on top and a mild sauce. I prefer a little more heat on my sauce but it was delicious. We also split a Caesar salad which was a good size. They were still pending their liquor license but it looked like they have a bar built out when that happens. Service was ok. Our waitress was friendly and nice but our appetizer did not come out and our main entree was served first. Then she asked if we wanted it but we canceled it since it was the appetizer. They could offer more beverages selections too in my opinion. I think they are off to a good start and after some improvements this could be a great local spot. read more

Came for dinner, first time. We couldn't tell if it was sushi or Mexican food, and then we realized it was both. It was a little confusing. I ordered a chile relleno plate, which is kind of my go-to. My husband ordered the Caldo de Rez. After a few minutes our server returned and said they didn't have any beef soup, so he changed his order to birria ramen. It took forever for our food to arrive, maybe 20 minutes. The soup looked really good and my husband was happy with the flavor. My chile relleno plate look super fancy, although there was watercress on top of the rice, which was weird. One bite of the chile relleno and I had to spit it out. It tasted like industrial chemicals, mixed with a metallic taste. It tasted toxic. I asked for something different and they offered me cheese enchiladas instead. It took about 20 minutes to get my corrected order. The enchiladas were ok, but the enchilada sauce didn't taste like regular enchilada sauce, more like a tomato sauce, but it was pleasant. The rice and beans were nice, although the rice was garnished with watercress which was different. After we finished eating we asked for our check which took another 15 minutes to receive. It was not a pleasant dining experience. I don't recommend eating there. read more

Today I visited this restaurant, and on Mondays they offer 50% off everything. It was definitely worth it. The décor was really nice, the service was great, and the food was excellent. I would absolutely go back again. It's a little hidden gem, and I wish Sylmar had more places like this. My suggestion would be to incorporate a salsa afternoon on a Sunday and add Caribbean-inspired sushi to the menu. If you need help, I can help you! However, once I got there, the stuff was friendly un approached me quickly, bringing over chips and salsa, and a cup of water. they gave me enough time to look over the menu and I made recommendations when I asked. It was a football day, so one side of the restaurant was packed with people having a great time and the other side was a bit more quiet, but everyone seemed to be having a great time and there was not the feeling of anyone being too loud. I learned of this restaurant on a Sunday Morning news show, think it was ABC 7. I haven't yet had an all around favorite Mexican Fusion eatery. Just happened to drop in on a Thursday Happy Hour so Sushi Rolls were 50% off. It was not busy being the early middle part of rush hour on the road. Was greeted and seated quick. The whole menu looks so exciting though the prices are a bit high, made it hard to decide what to try. I opted to try sushi this time around since I was solo. Rolls were good portioned not skimpy but I would opt for lighter rice if possible if planning to eat plenty. Sister Sister Roll came first. Sauce or onions or both combined made a strong bitter taste but good. The Albacore from top tasted good alone while the roll itself was good. Very often when I try latino fusion sushi the rice gets too sweetened or not at all. The rice tasted not sweetened but seasoned enough and still slightly warm with good texture. I believe they may have used some proper sushi rice here rather than just any rice. Then came the Agua Chile and Mango Habanero Roll. All three rolls came well garnished accordingly, maybe even heavy. Agua Chile had a fresh tart taste. Mango Roll was strong with the sweetness as good mango should. Server was frequent in checking on me, refilled my water before I even had to ask. No appetite for dessert this time around as I was on an empty stomach. The room had Latino music playing and multiple TVs. Elegant Decor without feeling too upscale. Definitely come with an appetite and another person. Service was attentive but not annoying and the chef came out to check on us! Now the food: Salmon Crudo was my favorite, mango salsa balanced the salmon perfectly. Crispy octopus was a close second, marinated and fried, not rubbery at all. I think the cauliflower puree could have been replaced with some kind of chimichurri for a better pairing. Skirt Steak - 9/10: Juicy, tender, great flavor. Cuban Dragon Roll - 10/10: Shrimp, eel, plantain... amazing. Easily the best thing we had. However, one downside of this restaurant worth pointing out is that portions here are relatively small. Therefore, if you come here with your whole family, better make sure you're not too hungry since the portions won't be sufficient to feed everyone. To sum up, I think this is a great option if you are looking for a clean place where you can have a nice lunch or dinner and try different dishes. The service was somewhat slow. Even though the restaurant wasn't crowded, it did take some time to get seated. Moreover once we had placed our order it again took time for the food to arrive.
