We stopped in this little restaurant after a visit to see the Humpback Bridge nearby. The restaurant is in a lovely historic house and they have a little parking lot in the back. My husband got the Mad Ann (corned beef, sauerkraut, and cheese on rye) and I got the J B Special (one of their specials of the day; ham and cheese with coleslaw and tomato on a Kaiser roll). Both came with chips and were delicious and perfectly sized for lunch. We even had enough room left for dessert! I got the strawberry pie and he got the chocolate pecan. Again, delicious!!! The service was delightful. We couldn't have asked for better! If you're in the area, this is a GREAT place to stop for a meal! read more

The James Burke House Eatery is located in a converted old historic home. They offer a menu of various sandwiches but also update their social media of daily specials. While in the area, the hubs and I ordered the following: the Mad Ann (corned beef with sauerkraut and melted Mozzarella on rye with Thousand Island dressing; this was just okay); the Hattie (housemade chicken salad , bacon, and tomato, served on a kaiser roll; this was definitely our favorite!); the James Burke (ham and Mozzarella with a sliced pineapple and honey mustard, served on rye; this was delicious!); and, the Intermont (gourmet turkey breast, ham, bacon, and Mozzarella with lettuce, tomato, and mayo, served on wheat). All the sammies were served with a pickle and a bag of Lay's chips. We also tried one of the Potato Patches (aka, baked potato), with the bacon, mushrooms, and mozzarella as the topping choice; this came with a small garden salad, a fruit wedge, and a slice of French bread. Came out piping out! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and there were plenty of seating at the front and the back of the house. We were traveling through Covington when we decided to eat at the James Burke house eatery. Unfortunately, we failed to note it closed at 2. I went in anyway to ask for recommendation to another restaurant. Instead, the very pleasant young woman offered to make us sandwiches to go. We took our sandwiches (and pie) across the nearby bridge and ate in the quiet green city park by the river. The sandwiches were delicious and generous. My chicken salad was perfect, served on tender Kaiser roll with bacon and tomato slice. Perfect! Wish I lived closer so I could go back again and again. Thanks yelp for the good recommendation. I have to say this little place is ducked off in this little town. If the service doesn't please you alone, the food will. The place is quaint and sit yourself type dining. There are always specials of the day, a soup, a salad, a lunch and even a quiche of the day. And of course there is desert. I've heard good things about their sandwiches, but I've never actually eaten here. I went in at lunchtime and waited and waited and waited to get seated. I grew tired of being ignored, so I left. They're very close to the local paper mill, so I guess they may get preferential treatment. I think they're basically a lunch-only establishment. read more

lunch time!! im so glad some co-worker told us about this place! local eatery, run by a family types. they have a fixed menu standard and specials included. Freshly made desert that keeps changing.. or depending on the crowd get's sold out quick. Get here early - as they make a fixed quantity of their lunch specials - and they run out quick. i think this place was fixed for my group for lunch on thursdays - we had to be here.. Aside from that - small place - largest single table seats 4 - they join tables for a larger group. They line their deserts on a rack on a wall that you may browse as soon as you enter - and may even pick one up and take to your table in case you worry that it might be gone by the time your lunch is over. You may have to wait for a bit depending on the number of guests and rush that day, but as i said it's a small (fantastic) family place owned and run privately. I don't know if I worded that correctly. But you get the idea. food is always good - they are willing to mix and match the items on request. serving size is per one person. not big/stuffing, and definitely not tiny or not enough. The place is cheap as well. You can safely assume - locally prepared food, from locally available ingredients.
