Nice, rustic old time ambiance. Mostly wood decor, benches, good size bar, outdoor patio. We were greeted and seated with menus very quickly. Our order was taken when the drinks arrived - efficient. Food was fresh and hot, since most of it was deep-fried it was piping hot! Everything was tasty, no complaints at all. The server bought me another soda before my first one was empty, without being asked. $35 + tip for two meals and sodas is a pretty good deal these days. We will be back! read more

A group of friends and I were staying at the Inn at Cliff View for the holidays and we found The Rail. Definitely sports bar vibes with a varied menu. We moved some tables for a large party and took over the bar area, it was seat yourself. The food was fine, some greasy (potato skins), some overcooked ("medium" burger), but overall good bar food flavors. There were several drink specials and daily food specials. The saving grace was the bartender and seemingly only server on duty. She was kind, patient, and worked hard to make sure we got everything we needed while running around like crazy! read more

Not a noteable place as far as writing home about, but great service and if you are in Covington VA, not a lot of choices. So if you do find yourself here, it is not a ban place to stop. You may think divebar from the outside, but nice bar and deck. Full bar and full menu. I wish I was able to go back! On our way to Virginia and the place looks small from the outside .It is not. Even though it has one bathroom for women and one for men. Its a bar, but .... oh my. The bartender was super sweet, great service and tvs and a good Jack and Coke made it all better. The boys were able to come in and eat. Everything in portion size was huge!! boys had boneless wings and tenders. We shared a HUGE side salad which was so fresh I inhaled it. then we shared the Club, thank goodness it was HUGE and soooooooo tasteful. This was the stop on our road trip to Kentucky. The Rail is an awesome little bar and grille with lots of seating, a nice floor plan and televisions with different stations. There was a very nice sized bar, but with the pandemic, everything was situated appropriately. The staff was very kind and attentive to us, even when it began to get busy. Our food came out in a timely manner and cooked well. The food was great, however the calamari was a bit dry. All-in-all, this was a really nice pit stop right off of the interstate, and we enjoyed our experience here. We came pretty hungry and left very satisfied. read more

Great food! The only reason I gave it 4 of 5 is that the service is a little slow. We went between lunch and dinner time and ordered a side of hush puppies, which were amazing. They gave us a horseradish dipping sauce that was the right amount of heat to clear up my sinuses . I then ordered the pulled pork sandwich that was perfect. I could have eaten so much more because it tasted that good. However, it was a good size portion. Lastly, the history of place is cool too. Stopped in on our way back home to WI. Staff was super friendly and the food was yummy! They accidentally made boneless wings when my son ordered traditional, bone in wings, but they were super apologetic and let us keep the food for free and then made the wings that he ordered. It's unfortunate that we didn't have great service here, because the food here was delicious. When we first entered the restaurant, it was completely empty inside with only one or two parties seated outside, so when we ordered we assumed it would not take long. However, the server greeted us, then left and had us standing and waiting for ten minutes before taking our order. When we did finally get to order, I ordered the BBQ Sandwich, which comes with coleslaw and fries, and a slice of chocolate cake. Starting with the sandwich, the pork was described as locally smoked, and it tasted it. It had an amazing smokey flavor and tenderness, and the ciabatta bread the sandwich was made on was toasted and buttered well, not at all soggy. However, the sandwich inexplicably came with absolutely no BBQ sauce (despite being a BBQ sandwich) and was very dry until we specifically asked for sauce. The fries the sandwich came with were great, well seasoned and perfectly crispy. The coleslaw was tangy and refreshing, however another person in our party who had the same order did not receive their coleslaw. As for the chocolate cake, it wasn't bad, but definitely not worth $4. It was a rather small slice, and the cake was nothing special and probably from a box. Outside of the dessert, the food was great-- however, the service was careless and poor, and I probably would not return. read more

I live nearby and have eaten here off and on since they opened. Food is ok but nothing special,my biggest complaint has been service even during slow periods. Extremely long wait for everything from menu to coming back to take your order. The last time I never received a follow up visit after finally getting my food and had to eat ice as a drink refill. After tiring of waiting on a check we went and asked the bartender to get it and ring it up. We strolled into this place on a long track across country looking for somewhere to eat a late dinner. We realized upon entering that it was about 10 minutes before close. The awesome bartender (wish i could remember her name, but she's pictured) told us it would be no problem to still get us fed "WHAT!!??!!" Now that is service. Wow. Worst experience ever! Only go here if you feel like waiting over an hour to get your food, and if you like rude waitresses! We were literally the first customers there but patrons were coming in, getting their meals and finishing, and my kids were still sitting there with no chicken tenders and fries. Here on a weekend getaway. Table was sticky and had ANTS crawling on it. Food tasted like fast food, chicken tenders tasted like cardboard (couldn't swallow it). Service was horrible, I was with a party of 3 and it took us an hour and a half to get out of there. Looks like a super fun bar but not somewhere to go eat!!!! Stopped on the way back from our WVA road trip. It was a Sunday afternoon and we weren't drinking but sat at the bar hoping for a quick bite. The place is nicely decorated and the food was pretty good. The bartender/waitress was taking care of the entire restaurant and was very friendly but understandably a little slow getting to everyone. We watched her pour a couple of drinks and she is not messing around with the booze! If we were local this would def be one of our dive bar hangouts. After a week and a half returning back to the rail bar and Grille, the service was poor, my beer was flat "Bud Light" from the tap, and the wings were horrible "bone in wings". The owner also my waitress admitting that the wings were not good,instead of giving me a refund or offering me another set of wings she simply just did not charge me for my last beer, which again was flat coming from the tap. She had the cook put in another set of wings to fry, when she came out she asked - I'm assuming her husband or co-owner to come look then came to me and said I'm not sure what happened to your wings but the second batch I put in there looked better! Service was poor, food is poor, beer on tap poor and when I was trying to explain to her my dislike of the wings she got defensive and again returning saying I was correct. read more

Let me add for an early Tuesday night the place was pretty empty but the service didn't reflect that. After finally getting our drink order it took for ever to get our meal order. After the order was in I watched our waitress head to the (very nice deck) and sit with co workers for three cigarettes. When she was finally done I got my chicken salad with a heavy dose of smoke odor and had to wait for my semi raw baked potato. The cost was medium but the service and food were so so.
